5 out of 5 eggsLittle chance of heatsink interference

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 997030

Pros: Very little chance of interference with your CPU heatsink.

Cons: Lack of a heatsink means these are perhaps not the best choice if you intend to overclock and/or overvolt. I should note I have not experimented with either using these, so they may be perfectly capable.

Other Thoughts: If you don't want to find that your RAM can't be used in the first slot or causes you concern because it is bumping up against the bottom of the massive heatsink you've installed (an issue I've personally encountered), RAM like this is the way to go. The low voltage requirement means that at standard settings heat will not be an issue.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent RAM

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 997030

Pros: Nice inexpensive 8gb RAM. Mushkin is a trusted brand. Once this RAM gets setup properly it works great! Got a 7.7 on the Windows Experience Index if anyone is wondering. Set it to 1600mhz in bios and set the voltage to either Auto or 1.35v and you will be good.

Cons: Doesn't OC very well, but then again the Mushkin Essentials line is not meant for that. If given more than 1.35v it slows down a little.

Other Thoughts: The OC'ing issue is really a non issue. If you are buying RAM to OC than go with a higher end line than Essentials. But if you just want RAM that works and works well you can't go wrong with this! I only gave it 4 stars due to the fact that it took a little time to get it setup properly; Timing, voltage, speed. But this could have very well been my MB as well.

4 out of 5 eggsVoltage Different by SPD?

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 997030

Pros: Mushkin is a reliable brand in my experience

Cons: I purchased this RAM because it's stated as 1.35v. For some reason, via SPD, it configures as 1.565v.

The reason I purchased 1.35v RAM is due to the Z68 motherboards preferring 1.5v or less. They tend to run much better with lower voltage RAM.

Other Thoughts: So far, as 1.565v, it's performed well as an 8GB configuration. I'll scale it back manually to 1.35 and report back if there are problems.
