1 out of 5 eggsFailure at day 31

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT60GB-DX 60GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Nice price point and quite fast compared to other units I have used.

Cons: The SSD failed at day 31.

This means I cannot replace it through Newegg and must go through the manufacturer.

I submitted a ticket with the Mushkin Support Center and waiting for a reply. I don't like how I haven't received an automated email that the ticket was received and I can't check the status of the ticket to confirm that it was received because you must have a ticket number to do that... that you receive by email when you submit the ticket. I'm hoping the overall experience of the return doesn't go the same way.

Other Thoughts: This SSD was installed in an Intel NUC DC53427HYE.

Since I only purchased one of these, I don't know if it was a fluke or if the SSDs are really unreliable. We will see how the replacement goes.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Cache Drive

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT60GB-DX 60GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I've got the thing on my MB as a cache drive and I actually feel it was worth the $80 or whatever for it.

Simple to set up

Cons: I couldn't justify to my wife why I spent money on this

Other Thoughts: was completely an impulse buy to see if I could make my raid drive with my games and media on it more responsive and I think it was a good choice.

3 out of 5 eggsDisappear from the system intermittently

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT60GB-DX 60GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Speed/Price is Good

Cons: Not stable, very hot, disconnect from system, even cann't see from BIOS for a while

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure if the problems of "hot" and "disconnect" (likely caused by hot) are common to all mSATA ssd. I contacted their customer service -- the service seems OK. They granted me a return. But I haven't returned it yet -- I'm trying avoid spend more money (shipping fee) on this product.

It works, just not that reliable. I'm not sure if the replacement will work more reliable anyways.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat mSATA SSD Cache

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT60GB-DX 60GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: High quality and SATA III.

I am using this as an SSD cache drive on my ASUS Maximus V Formula Z77 motherboard for over a year now, and it works like a charm.

Cons: I wish it were 64GB instead of 60GB to max out my Intel Z77 SSD cache memory size.

A bit on the expensive side for what it is.

Other Thoughts: System Information:
ASUS Maximus V Formula
Intel i7-3770K
Zalman CNPS9900MAX
Arctic Silver 5
EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti FTW+ 3GB
2 x 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 1866

5 out of 5 eggsWarning

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT60GB-DX 60GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This drive has the potential to be very fast if not limited.

Cons: I removed this from my MB when I found out the mSATA slot was limited to SATA2 performance. I installed it in my DROBO 5N to see if it would improve performance and the DROBO would no longer work. When I went to the DROBO website, I learned that DROBO does not support Sand Force controllers. If you are thinking about using an mSATA SSD in your DROBO, make sure the controller is not Sand Force.

Other Thoughts: I'm a little disappointed but as soon as I pick up an mSATA to SATA adapter, I will connect it to a SATA3 port so the drive will provide the best possible performance.

I didn't buy this for my DROBO but the DROBO site actually lists this drive as "known to be incompatible".

As for the MB, I just assumed that the mSATA dock would be SATA3 so throughput would not be a bottleneck but I was wrong. I was actually getting a 6.3 WEI for disk data transfer rate when using this drive as a cache for my two Velociraptors in RAID 0 which was really confusing till I stumbled on the mSATA MB limitation. M.2 should resolve that if my next MB supports the new spec. For now, going back to the lower performing Crucial M4 connected to a SATA 3 port actually improved performance slightly.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT60GB-DX 60GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Not DOA, compact, functions properly. Discovered that my motherboard uses a clip so no screws were required.

Cons: Less material but higher cost/GB vs the SATA SSD.

Other Thoughts: For the extra cost, screws really should have been included for the users that needed them. This was supposed to be a slightly faster reading and much faster writing drive than the M4 I replaced and probably is but I couldn't tell the difference. Mostly I wanted to use the mSATA on the motherboard for a less cluttered case interior.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT60GB-DX 60GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Absolutely amazing. Not disappointed at all.

-Lightning fast
-Amazing Quality

I've changed my system from a 50sec+ boot to under 13 seconds every time. The logo doesn't even get a chance to load(windows).

Cons: -Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H doesn't list it as a default bootable device but boots from it anyways. I list it as a con because when installing debian to an HDD, the SSD would no longer default boot and try to boot from the other harddrives.

-The capacity is low. I will not dock an egg because it was my choice to get only 60GB but it handles fine. I have about 15GB left after only installing windows and basic applications(Notepad++, C++ compiler, etc..) and disabling the hybrfile.sys to free up space.

Other Thoughts: I will DEFINITELY be going to Mushkin for my next SSD.

I'm also a big fan of the mSATA form factor with my mobo(see con's). It takes up no space because of the onboard expansion slot below the CPU. It's blazingly fast and I don't regret a penny.

4 out of 5 eggsQA Issues

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT60GB-DX 60GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Tiny
Fast
Better value than ssd options from lenovo
Free return shipping

Cons: The first unit was defective. It was recognized by the system but couldn't get through installing windows 7 x64 without stalling indefinitely.

Other Thoughts: First drive was defective. Does anyone test their products before sending them out the door anymore?

The replacement unit has been working without issue as the system drive for just over three months now.
