5 out of 5 eggsFast, and Great for OS Installation

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR60GB-DX7 2.5" 60GB SATA III 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very Great SSD, and a great price compared to other big names.

Great for OS installs.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: If you're installing an OS, be wary that if you do not use NTFS junction points, or another redirect method to put your Program Files on your HDD instead of your SSD, your 60GB drive will soon be filled up. Programs pile up fast.

If you go online, you can find easy tutorials on how to change the location of your large Windows files to your HDD so that they will not fill up your SSD.

3 out of 5 eggsSMART errors

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR60GB-DX7 2.5" 60GB SATA III 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, reasonably priced, SMART monitoring seems to work very well.

Cons: SMART errors within 9 months

Other Thoughts: I've used it as a cache drive in an Win7 / Intel Rapid Storage Technology configuration on my gaming system's system drive, (not data/games) and the performance has been excellent. Until now.

I don't know what I expected, but was 1 year of operation as a (primarily) read-only cache too much to ask?

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Fast

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR60GB-DX7 2.5" 60GB SATA III 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Super fast, I have had two of these, and a few of the 9.5mm DX versions all are still working good, oldest is four years old.
some have been reformatted, repartitioned, and reinstalled many times. I don't ever think about write cycles these days.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you reinstall on these you will see a drop in performance. The cause, Its kinda like auto trim in linex without a daily cron job when you delete some thing it trims right then. like wise before you can write to a block after a reinstall it has to be trimmed on demand because reformatting/repartitioning doesn't wipe the blocks. To negate this, hook the drive up to another system before repartitioning, take ownership of the old OS, delete it, re-trim the drive, reinstall. Gives the same performance as a new drive.

5 out of 5 eggs60GB SSD

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR60GB-DX7 2.5" 60GB SATA III 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: FAST! WOW this thing blows the doors off my old 7200rpm drive. For an OS drive I highly recommend this drive if you have SATA 6Gbps. I have not had any problems since I got it as a gift over a year ago.

Cons: Doesn't serve coffee in the morning?

5 out of 5 eggsFast. Reliable.

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR60GB-DX7 2.5" 60GB SATA III 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast. It completely maxes out SATA-300 on read and write. Like most SSD's, access times are instant, and it runs cool while using very little power.

Cons: None. Not a con, but do note that this drive is 7mm thick. It may not fit well in odd enclosures that rely on a 9mm drive.

Other Thoughts: Using this in a low power, completely solid state fanless Atom ITX webserver. It's unbelievably fast for being a box that draws 13 watts at the wall. I think this drive is about 0.3-1.5 watts depending upon if it's idling, read, or write. It's on and in use 24x7 in this environment, and it's been completely reliable for 6 months now. Still have backups, but have not needed them yet.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR60GB-DX7 2.5" 60GB SATA III 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I loaded Debian Linux on it, and it works fine.

Cons: No complaints so far.

Other Thoughts: It's amazing how little disk space Debian takes up compared to Windows. 60 GB should be just fine.

4 out of 5 eggsSuper Fast

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR60GB-DX7 2.5" 60GB SATA III 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Super fast. I put this drive into an old Core 2 Duo with 8 GB of DDR2 and Windows 7 Pro. I thought this drive would just make the old computer usable again. I was surprised to see that it supercharged the old girl. It was like building a new computer. Reinstalling my applications took just a few minutes instead of a few hours like it did on the old drive.

Cons: It is kinda small. With Windows 7, iTunes, Roxio, and the drivers, I have used a little more than half the drive's capacity. I only set up one user and I slaved the old 500 GB magnetic disk to take care of the data storage so it shouldn't be a problem.

Other Thoughts: Use this drive for an OS drive. You won't be able to store any data on it.
