1 out of 5 eggsHigh failure rate

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT120GB-V 120GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast and cheap.

Cons: Very high failure rate. We purchased 35 of these for an NUC deployment. We've had 5 failures now in only a few months. The first failure was after 3 weeks, then two more in about 6 weeks. Now 2 more after about 2 months.

Other Thoughts: Mushkin has replaced failures under warranty. They've done it quickly without question. We've used plenty of their RAM in the past, so I don't say it is a bad brand. But... this model of SSD is terrible.

1 out of 5 eggsStarted freezing up my NUC every few hours

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT120GB-V 120GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cheapish, fast, when it works.

Cons: Bought this for an intel NUC D54250WYK as it was on intel's supported list of mSATA drives; worked fine for a month or so, then would start freezing up every few hours (ubuntu 12.04 would remount the drive read-only). Light on the LED fixed on.

A hard reboot wouldn't work unless you unplugged the power cable and re-added it, then it always rebooted ok at least.

Seemed to be worse in hot weather, but the drive temperature was mostly 36 - 40C so within its spec when it was failing. None of the disk tests I did reported any faults.

Looks to be the same issue as another reviewer here found with an intel NUC on newegg - so reporting my experience too.

5 out of 5 eggsUpgraded Lenovo

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT120GB-V 120GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This really gave new life to a cheap Lenovo Twist. Boot time is about 7 seconds from full power off, and about 2 from sleep.

Cloned the original HD to this and it boots fine, not a single issue.

Cons: Nothing to complain about. Haven't had an issue yet.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your time

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT120GB-V 120GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: cheap, decent customer service, 3 year warranty

Cons: first one died within a few months, got a warranty replacement, that died right after I restored my backup on it.

Other Thoughts: The customer service on this drive has been good, but I'm 0 for 2 on their drives right now, and I'm skeptical if I'm going to find a positive solution here.

1 out of 5 eggsMushkin Mishmosh

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT120GB-V 120GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Used in an NUC, it's been intermittent for 3 months now. I kept reducing its temperature with heat sink methods to no avail. Seems to be the interface IC that just locks up after a while of use, because a reboot never works; it must be unplugged and replugged to recover.

Other Thoughts: This is the third Mushkin NUC that I've had to throw out. Never had to with ADATA, Samsung, Intel, OCZ or others. I replace this one with an HP model that's made by LITEON. LITEON makes Plextor, HP and Dell mSATAs that are rated the BEST.

1 out of 5 eggsFails in 3 months

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT120GB-V 120GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cheap. Works initially.

Cons: fails within 3 months. I'm using x230 and the laptop can't access the ssd anymore. No warranty and non-refundable.

Other Thoughts: Basically I wasted my money. I suspect that the product is designed with defects so that it fails in 3 months(which is out of the replacement period of newegg). Next time I should be more careful with the products from these small companies. Of course I won't buy any product from Mushkin anymore.

3 out of 5 eggsKeep it Cool - Or Else

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT120GB-V 120GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast and Inexpensive.

Cons: Works reliably up to +40C. Above that, it fails.

Other Thoughts: I have an Intel NUC that has a thermal pad installed to draw heat from the mSATA board to the chassis. The mSATA was runninf at about 44C and faiedl intermittently. The fix was to remove the Muskin label and the temp went down to 36C or so which make it work reliably.
