Positioned at the intersection of performance and value, Chronos SSDs provide next-generation SSD responsiveness by utilizing asynchronous NAND Flash technology. Say goodbye to rotational hard drive sluggishness by adding a Chronos SSD to your system today!

• INDUSTRY-LEADING PERFORMANCE
Driven by the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2281), the Chronos Series is designed and built to unleash the full potential of the 6Gbps SATA III interface. The Chronos pushes the limits in both sequential and random data transfer rates, significantly improving your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience.

• A SUPERIOR PC EXPERIENCE
In addition to maximum performance, a Chronos SSD upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability. Chronos series SSDs work in perfect harmony with next generation platforms and operating systems to deliver the ultimate storage solution.

• TRIM SUPPORT
The Chronos Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

2 out of 5 eggsMushkin Enhanced Chronos 480GB

Pros: Fast like most SSDs
Cheaper than many when I bought it

Cons: Failed after about a year.

Other Thoughts: Luckily windows alerted me that the HD was about to fail and I was able to clone my OS to another SSD before I lost everything, but failing after a relatively short time isn't good and cost me hours in having to deal with the problem.

2 out of 5 eggsDead after 11 months

Pros: great price for the speed delivered

Cons: failed after 11 months of light use. This is the 3rd Mushkin that has so far failed - i'm afraid i'll have to stop buying this brand.

Other Thoughts: in my business i have used intel, samsung, silicon power, ocz and Adata. So far only mushkin, ocz and adata have failed - with mushkin with the highest failure rates.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsNot reliable

Pros: Good price, good performance, easy to install.

Cons: Not stable, unreliable, prone to frequent failures.

Other Thoughts: This drive was a breeze to install as well as ran through install smoothly and quickly. Performance and price point are also great.

The problem I have is this is not a reliable drive. While it has not totally failed, it regularly fails. Maybe 4-7 times a month it just fails and a reboot will not even show it in the BIOS as existing. I'll have to fully power down and wait 5-10 minutes, then it's back and boots and works once more.

I'm hopeful a firmware update may increase reliability but so far, none. I wish I could log something but as the drive is "gone" when this happens, obviously there are no windows logs to analyze as the drive is not available.

1 out of 5 eggsSpend a little more, get a lot better

Pros: Price was good.

Cons: Poor reliability, terrible warranty support.

Other Thoughts: Short review: I should have read the reviews more carefully. This is a poor quality device, so expect to have to deal with the manufacturer, who does NOT cover shipping costs for RMAs.

Long review:
I purchased this drive during the Thanksgiving sales last year for my laptop running Windows. It was less than a month before I started getting random blue screens and and "No bootable device" screens, sometimes during use.

After a while the frequency of these failures exceeded my need to maintain a (at least somewhat) working laptop, so I contacted Mushkin for a warranty repair.

The good news was they issued a RMA quickly, I'm guessing because they're used to these things breaking. The bad news was that 1) Mushkin will not ship your replacement until they receive the defective drive 2) Mushkin will not cover the cost of shipping and 3) their customer service is pretty poor. Regarding 3, they first told me my replacement drive was on the way, and it wasn't until after I was asking about shipping labels that they told me 1 and 2; otherwise, I would have been waiting on a drive that was never coming!

So, the lesson I've learned is by the time you add in the frustration, the inconvenience of time without your computer, and the cost of shipping/packing/insurance, you're better off going with a higher quality product. And here's to hoping the replacement drive doesn't do the same!

1 out of 5 eggs2 out of 3 DOA, non responsive

Pros: Price was good - it was on sale

Cons: I normally don't leave bad reviews but this time I reached my boiling point. My company is a reseller and we ordered three of these SSD and two went bad - one within a month and another on its 32nd day. I tried to return to get a refund for one, Newegg will not take it back since I don't have the original packaging. Well, we are a reseller and we do buy a lot of SSD's (we are selling them like hot cakes) and we don't keep the packaging after it's been installed to a customer pc. Another one died just after one month. Now I have to return two Mushkin SSD and will probably get stuck with them since we already replaced the two failed Mushkin SSD with Crucial. I normally try to use Crucial, Kingston, & Samsung even if they are a little bit more. But I was enticed with a good price on Mushkin. Well I guess I learned a lesson.

Other Thoughts: The whole situation would have been a little better if I was just given a refund by Newegg for the SSD I purchased less than a month ago. I'm the buyer for my company and I buy from them almost daily.

1 out of 5 eggsTried to use a lesser known Brand

Pros: DOA

Cons: DOA

Other Thoughts: Wasted money on an ssd that i thought would have worked and even contemplated writing a review was really worth my time.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid... heh

Pros: Quick.
Good quality.
Competitively priced.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: This (and the 240 GB variety of Mushkin) goes on sale regularly, it would seem.
SandForce, from a quick search, appears to be a respected memory controller company.
I was slightly concerned when I first bought this Mushkin SSD, but so far I would highly recommend Mushkin.

5 out of 5 eggsTurned my machine into a rocket sled

Pros: Stunningly fast, easy to install

Cons: Not a single one!

Other Thoughts: Boot time with 64-bit Win 8.1 Pro is less than 10 seconds. This is in a core i7 quad core w/ 8gb RAM. It used to take a couple of minutes to boot, and performance was disappointing with everyday tasks, such as loading web pages or downloading large files. Little did I know it was the 5,400 RPM hard drive that was the dog.

I performed a clean install on the new drive (which the BIOS immediately recognized and accepted). Windows installed surprising fast (guess why!). I'm p,retty sure I gasped audibly when it booted into Windows almost immediately. My 17.3" laptop is now my favorite machine, even though it's pretty heavy. If you're frustrated with poor performance and slow load times, switch to an SSD....you'll be amazed.

5 out of 5 eggsCheap, Quick, and to the point

Pros: Quick enough
Great price, especially for a large capacity drive
Great way to speed up a budget build

Cons: Not the fastest drive on the market, but still more than fast enough

Other Thoughts: Just needed to replace an SSD in a build I did for my parents a long time ago. The larger capacity should give them more room and it is faster than their older drive as well so that is a bonus!

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing Mushkin.
We appreciate your feedback and support.
