Positioned at the intersection of performance and value, Chronos SSDs provide next-generation SSD responsiveness by utilizing asynchronous NAND Flash technology. Say goodbye to rotational hard drive sluggishness by adding a Chronos SSD to your system today!

• INDUSTRY-LEADING PERFORMANCE
Driven by the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2281), the Chronos Series is designed and built to unleash the full potential of the 6Gbps SATA III interface. The Chronos pushes the limits in both sequential and random data transfer rates, significantly improving your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience.

• A SUPERIOR PC EXPERIENCE
In addition to maximum performance, a Chronos SSD upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability. Chronos series SSDs work in perfect harmony with next generation platforms and operating systems to deliver the ultimate storage solution.

• TRIM SUPPORT
The Chronos Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

4 out of 5 eggsAffordable SSD Upgrade

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR120GB-7 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Firmware version 5.41 compared to 5.07 on website
Mean time between failures of 2 million hours
Very thin at 7 mm

Ran excessive benchmarks and tests to try and break in the drives (Roughly 300 GB written) in order to ensure they were not likely to fail early on before configuring them for use. Initially and after my stress tests the drives reported no SMART errors of any kind and all of the values were good and where they should be.

ATTO Disk Benchmark:
• Read = 554.1 MB/s
• Write = 527.4 MB/s

Crystal Disk Mark - Uncompressed
• Sequential: Read = 428.23 MB/s, Write = 494.1 MB/s
• 512k: Read = 363.9 MB/s, Write = 477.96 MB/s
• 4k: Read = 30.10 MB/s, Write = 92.36 MB/s
• 4k QD32: Read = 86.68 MB/s, Write = 370.53 MB/s

Crystal Disk Mark - Compressed
• Sequential: Read = 364.43 MB/s, Write = 136.3 MB/s
• 512k: Read = 403.86 MB/s, Write = 135.56 MB/s
• 4k: Read = 29.0 MB/s, Write = 92.9 MB/s
• 4k QD32: Read = 85.77 MB/s, Write = 134.6 MB/s

AS SSD Benchmark IOPS:
• 16MB: Read = 21.47 IOPS Write = 8.06 IOPS
• 4K: Read = 4,181 IOPS Write = 13,827 IOPS
• 4K-64 Thread Read = 12,637 IOPS Write = 30,713 IOPS
• 512B Read = 8,634 IOPS Write = 3,824 IOPS

Power Consumption
• Idle Drive Off – Unknown (Would not enter this state)
• Idle Drive On – 1.05 Watts
• Load Read – 3.15 Watts
• Load Write – 3.65 Watts

Temperature While Testing: 95 °F

Cons: Specs claim 90,000 IOPS 4K random read and 85,000 write but despite all of my testing I never saw numbers come close to that in any of my benchmarking programs.

Uses more power than the 5400 RPM drive it replaced (SSD was in the idle stage more often though):
• Idle Drive Off – 0.65 Watts
• Idle Drive On – 0.95 Watts
• Load Read – 2.65 Watts
• Load Write – 2.75 Watts

Other Thoughts: To sum things up this is a great upgrade for any system with a mechanical hard drive as the performance benefits are huge and very noticeable. This drive is an ideal upgrade for a laptop that doesn’t have or need a lot files stored on it but the downside is this SSD used more power than most 5400 RPM drives so don’t expect your battery life to go up just because this item has no moving parts. Also with a laptop and upgrading to an SSD, worries about dropping or being too rough with your laptop will have no effect on the life of your drive unlike a mechanical hard drive.

It is a lot faster than the 5400 RPM drive it replaced though (Crystal Disk Mark):
• Sequential: Read = 90.60 MB/s, Write = 90.72 MB/s
• 512k: Read = 33.05 MB/s, Write = 35.12 MB/s
• 4k: Read = 0.428 MB/s, Write = 1.091 MB/s
• 4k QD32: Read = 1.007 MB/s, Write = 1.026 MB/s

*All tests were conducted three times to ensure accuracy and repeatability of results.

5 out of 5 eggsRevive that old laptop!

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR120GB-7 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Regular 2.5" size drive that will fit any laptop with SATA type connections. Super fast! This laptop was borderline unusable with it's 5400 RPM traditional drive in it running Windows 7 Pro. After replacing the stock hard drive with this and pairing it a Mushkin RAM upgrade (from 1.5GB up to 3GB RAM) it's faster than it was the day it was brand new! AMAZING!

Cons: None, literally I can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: If you've been wondering if you really can revive that old laptop even running an old 1.8Ghz dual core, you can! And it will be faster than it ever was before. I was doubtful but thought I'd give it a try and it was worth every penny. I'll be reviving a few other laptops soon with this same drive.

5 out of 5 eggsVery fast

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR120GB-7 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: good speed, great price, never had a problem.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have purchased several SSD drives in the past year and I keep coming back to this model. It seems to work perfectly every time and responds just as fast as higher prices models.

2 out of 5 eggsLook elsewhere

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR120GB-7 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: its an SSD I wish I could post the benchmark but it won't let me the final score on An SSD benchmark was 380 if that tells you anything. The worst singular was a 4k read of 18.83 MB/s the full reading follow

READ WRITE
Seq 196.98 MB/s 90.02 MB/s
4K 18.83 MB/s 79.29 MB/s
4K-64 Thrd 86.70 MB/s 69.83 MB/s
ACC Time 0.183 ms 0.257 ms
SCORE 125 158
350
That my friends is a sad benchmark of an SSD!

http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Mushkin-Chronos-240GB/Rating/1622

They perform faster than a standard mechanical hard drive but nowhere near the bottom line for an SSD today!

Cons: This drive is slower than the SATA1 Kingston SSDNow I had years ago performance wise and I have had 1 in 2 computers I built last JULY as the main OS drive.

Other Thoughts: Memory wise Mushkin makes a solid product so it does not make a lot of sense for there SSD to perform like it does.

I just called into support and he had me downgrade my IDE/ATAPI controllers to standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA controller which may very well tell you why it performs like a SATA 1.0 drive as thats how old the controllers Mushkin makes for there product are.

Just to let you know I have repaired customized and built computers professionally end user to corporate laptop desktop workstation and servers for all major oems sold in the United States for 20+ years.

I personally would never again buy an SSD from Mushkin nor would I recommend them to friends or customers commercially or professionally which I do on a regular basis.

Currently I am trying to find 2 more main SSD's for my two main computers but it hurts to have wasted 2x 100.00 on these 2 SSD's.

5 out of 5 eggsJust Awesome!!

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR120GB-7 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Granted I've only just put this little gem in my new build as of 3/15/2014 but it is fast!! I have a mSATA SSD in my laptop and this thing beats that! I'm getting a 7.9 WEI on Win7 off it and it bottlenecks everything else (7.7). ATTO confirms the read/write that's advertised but the real-world usage of this drive will put a smile on your face for sure.

Cons: Ok so I haven't had this thing for that long, so I don't know about the longevity of it. I know these chips have a shorter lifespan, but who cares for the price tbh.

Other Thoughts: This does NOT come with a 3.5" adapter but it'll stay put with 1 little screw where your HDD's fit in your case. Stays about 10c cooler than my WD 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR120GB-7 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: easy set up, blazing fast and just plain awesome. This is the first ssd I've ever owned and I'm extremely happy with it. My pc boots in around 10 seconds and programs are pretty much just instantly ready to go. I have this drive for my OS and a 2TB segate 7200rpm for storage and I'm loving them both.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I picked this baby up for 89,99 on sale so I'm pretty satisfied with the performance per dollar that I'm getting. I still can't believe just how fast this thing is. It hasn't slowed down at all since the fresh install of win7 64bit. If you can get this or any other ssd with similar specs for the price I paid go for it. It's so worth it!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced MKNSSDCR120GB-7 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: For the price it can't be beat. The speed of the drive compared to what I was using incredible. I loaded windows 7 in 9 minutes flat.

Cons: Nothing so far.

Other Thoughts: Newegg shipping was fast also I paid the extra 3 bucks for expedited shipping and my whole order was here within 48 hours.
