4 out of 5 eggsReadyBoost

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced atom 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model MKNUFDAM16GB

Pros: My interest in buying was as a low profile flash drive to use as a ReadyBoost drive in Win7. I intended to plug it in and leave it in a USB port in the rear of the computer and I didn't want a device that would stick out significantly (2 1/2' or more) like the majority of flash drives or block adjacent ports. The drive sticks out 5/16" installed and is only slightly taller/wider than the USB socket on the MB. It would have been acceptable to me if it stuck out more . This is slightly less in length than the USB buds I have used for wireless keyboards/mouse. If you reformat it from FAT32 to NTFS, Win7 will use all but 100 mb.

Cons: There are holes for a clip or lanyard (not provided) so you have problems with it slipping out of your fingers or pocket, but really this is too SMALL to use for regular insertion and removal data storage & transfer.

Other Thoughts: NewEgg has more than a thousand flash drives in their catalog, Most are designed with the expectation they will be plugged in a computer for a short time, removed, and put in a pocket or placed on a desktop. As such, a size slightly smaller than a thumb makes them easy to handle. And there are a lot of questionable novelty types However few drives are low profile like this. They aren't convenient for frequent insert & removal and they are quite easy to lose when removed.

Manufacturer Response:

Tom,

Thank you for choosing Mushkin.
We appreciate your feedback and support.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat's not to like?

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced atom 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model MKNUFDAM16GB

Pros: great low profile, use it for tablets and other mobile devices that are dangerous to have a thumb drive jutting out of. Bought 2 originally and was impressed by the speed and portability so I just bought 5 more. Great for the car as well, load a bunch of media on there for the kids and have constant access without worrying about one of the other gadgets catching on it.

Cons: None really, lost one in my luggage on a trip because they're so small.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent design

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced atom 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model MKNUFDAM16GB

Pros: Very little exposure when plugged in, fast.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I will keep buying this type of USB from Mushkin. The low profile prevents inadvertent damage.

5 out of 5 eggsChromebook

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced atom 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model MKNUFDAM16GB

Pros: I leave it connected permanently on my C720. Cheaper upgrade than a hard drive.

Cons: Too small, easy to loose.

Other Thoughts: Wish the write speeds were faster too

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for FreeNAS

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced atom 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model MKNUFDAM16GB

Pros: This tiny flash drive is perfect from which to boot. I use it on my FreeNAS box and it is never in danger of being dislodged (broken or otherwise damaged) accidentally. It was instantly recognized by both my Windows 8.1 box and FreeNAS server (9.2).
And, it is relatively inexpensive.

Cons: Watch out, it is tiny, you might misplace it...

Other Thoughts: No complaints from me.

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost too small!

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced atom 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model MKNUFDAM16GB

Pros: Small, very small, small enough to leave permanently plugged in to a notebook/ultrabook for extra storage and not notice it. Read/write speeds are very close if not exactly as advertised! If you're looking for quick, additional storage in a small form factor this is a good pick.

Cons: While the small size is a pro, it is also somewhat of a con, I knew this flash drive was small when purchasing but it can be difficult to remove from USB ports due to its size

2 out of 5 eggsGreat speed, but poor build quality

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced atom 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model MKNUFDAM16GB

Pros: Small
Fast
Low voltage

Cons: The housing my thumb drive has already broken after 2 months. I tried to pull it out of my surface and the housing has cracked and left the usb plug in my surface. The drive still works thankfully.

3 out of 5 eggsNifty but not fully functional

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced atom 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model MKNUFDAM16GB

Pros: It's a really cute little flash drive, great form factor and so far it has a solid build.
Works fine as a USB 2.0 drive

Cons: USB 3.0 functionality is faulty. I don't know if this is a problem with my specific drive, but plugging it into a usb 3 socket results in either no mounting of the drive at all, or else it mounts for a couple seconds and then unmounts itself. Thought it might have been my computer but the problem is consistent across different machines.

Other Thoughts: Still not a bad deal for a tiny 16GB flash drive, but I did buy it for the USB3.0 functionality.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced atom 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model MKNUFDAM16GB

Pros: Tiny size, fast speeds for low price

Cons: Not as fast write speeds as larger sized models

Other Thoughts: Fast and tiny size USB flash drive. Faster than other tiny size models, almost 3x the write speed of others in this size, but with the current big discount the prices are similar.
Using ATTO disk benchmark and the default FAT32 format and large transfer sizes (4096-8192 MB) I got write speeds up to 11.4MB/s and read speeds up to 149MB/s
