Works great
- Pros: Plugged in, installed Vista 32 Ultimate, ran fast. Didn't have to do any of the tweaks others have mentioned.
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: Also have a Patriot Warp 32 SSD which runs Vista 64. No troubles with either SSD. OCZ work s just like a spinner drive. ASUS M3A78-T, Phenom x4 2.6, 4 GB 1066. Didn't have to do any of the tweaks mentioned by other reviewers... works great and though it may not seem that much faster than a spinner, use it for a week and then go back, then you'll know it's a great step up.
Serves the purpose
- Pros: as compared to traditional 3.5" Hard Drives:
1. smaller (dimensions) 2. lighter 3. lower power draw 4. little or no heat dissipated 5. no moving parts = no noise 6. Fast reads Perfect for HTPC boot disk, 32GB more then enough to install OS of your choice.
- Cons: As compared to traditional 3.5" Hard Drives:
1. small capacity 2. high price per storage unit 3. slower writes
- Other Thoughts: It is not very fair comparison we all are making. How many owns more then one SSD or has experience with more then one? That would be only case of apple to apple comparison. We all tend to compare SSDs to HDDs so we all have to be very careful to make it fair. Two different techs, young and teething vs. old and very mature. I got mine for one reason, HTPC. I wanted a boot disk that is silent and does not dissipate heat and is no bigger then HDD and no slower on reads then HDD. I do not care for writes as most of the data comes of the NAS server anyway. HTPC is the killer app for SSDs, other then that the tech has some catching up to do. 2009 should be the year of SSD if you ask me.
Great Device
- Pros: We are using the OCZ in VMWare installed ESX and ESXi Servers as the bootup device that holds the relative small kernel to boot VMWare. Current tests show superior startup time when rebooting. We are looking for the reliability of the memory type SSD gives us to avoid past mechanical prolbems we had with virtual server bootup devices. The product installed instantly and was boot ready in minutes. We are excited about the low price for such an important solution to our problems
- Cons: None at this time
- Other Thoughts: Research SSD before buying - if you are looking for reliablity and low power and mostly read access - you found your product. If you need superior read / write speed, buy the OCZ OCZSSD2-1S64G 2.5" 64GB SATA II Internal Solid state disk (SSD)
