Awesome once you got it to work
- Pros: Freakin fast and quiet. Excellent as OS drive once I got the right driver.
- Cons: Slow installation of apps to this drive as most of you all know due to inherent slow write speed. I had to go through the OCZ support forum to read user's tip to get this working to it's expected speed. It took me couple of tries (days and nights) to get things right.
- Other Thoughts: I had the first drive installed as an OS and took me couple of Vista x64 installations to get it right. When I bought the 2nd drive, I decided to put it in RAID 0 using ICH10 from mobo and of course reinstall the OS. It worked as I would like. The first recommendation I can give to all is to add the driver for Intel Storage Manager before the Vista installation. I also disabled the following: prefetch, superfetch, hibernation, page file (have 8GB RAM), defrag, 8.3 filename support, Windows and drive indexing and search, storing browser caches to another drive (will put this to ramdrive soon), redirected my download folder to my regular HD.
Motherboard: Asus Maximus II Formula CPU: Intel e8600 3.3GHz (o'c to 4.3GHz) RAM: G.Skillz 4x2GB 8500 Video: nVidia 7900 GTO
overall good
- Pros: cool, quiet,fast
- Cons: freeze seconds sometimes
- Other Thoughts: This is not as bad as others review. I installed smoothly, but when I tried to restore my system using paragon partition manager, transfer rate is so slow, I had to reinstalled the whole system and programs. I think the problem is that drive controller is incompatible with the motherboard, or this drive lack DRAM(cache). the recent intel's X-25M which used DRAM, it seems the speed is very high and has no such problem. It's worth buying, when I bought it at very low price($100 after rebate).
If you american, don't buy it
- Pros: Quick random read, decent concurrent read ( 80-120MB ).
Non fragmented read can reach 300MB
- Cons: Slow non fragmented write, average random write almost 1:1 to platter based 7200rpm drive
- Other Thoughts: If you can't figure out how to configure this device for its pro's and avoid its cons, then don't buy it. Don't complain because you don't know how to use your computer very well.
Create a ramdisk and dump virtual memory and other apps swap on their. Don't disable virtual memory.
