slower with age
- Pros: Starts off fast
- Cons: Gets slower with age
- Other Thoughts: This started out really fast for me, but the longer I have the drive, the slower it gets. Boot times are really a pain now. If you are spending this kind of coin on a ssd, spend a little more and get the faster versions that are out now.
Speedy MacBook Pro
- Pros: All the pros you would expect from a SSD: No noise, lower heat output, fast "read" access, no moving parts, installs like any normal hard drive would.
- Cons: Expensive and low capacity. Nothing special with "write" access speeds.
- Other Thoughts: Recently installed in a new MacBook Pro 2008 "unibody" model. My biggest setback was that this drive comes pre-formatted as NTFS / MBR, it took me a few minutes to find the "advanced" options in the Apple Disk Utility app to change over to a GUID partition. Although I did not time it, installation of OS X and Office 2008 seemed on par with a normal hard drive, so I can't complain about write access. Read access is definitely faster and noticeable, a cold boot takes under eight seconds from powering on to the Finder being fully loaded, launching WoW is again literally three seconds to get to the login screen. Wish these things were higher capacity for video editing. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase.
Solid State Drive
- Pros: Installs just fine into the Macbook Pro model, keeps the laptop cool for a change, no more noisy spinning either. Speeds the laptop up so much on boot. Great item recommend this to all users.
- Cons: I wish they had a larger model, other than that it is still awesome for a laptop.
