3 out of 5 eggsAlmost 4 years until kaput

Pros: This was great back in Dec '09 when I bought it. Speedy, good price.

Cons: It ran until Oct '13, but now the BIOS/an external enclosure won't recognize it, etc etc. I guess I blame sandforce? I haven't really looked into it.

Other Thoughts: I guess some spinning hard drives have died faster than this little guy, but I'm a little disappointed. Seeing as how they don't make these anymore, I don't really know why I'm writing a review. Closure, I guess.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Vertex1AShootingStar,

This may not be closed yet! The original Vertex series does have a way of restoring functionality of a drive that developed an unknown issue. This is called the destructive updater. Please visit the link below for a complete guide. If you experience any issues running the updater please create a new post in our Support Forum and we will gladly assist.

Thank you for sharing your feedback.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: Has never failed me after 6 months, was up to date with firmware when delivered. Win7 x64 Pro went on without a hitch and the boot time is sharp. This is on my HTPC which only has the OS and XBMC on it

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT

Pros: Fast, Very low cost

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I put this into my 7 year old Pentium D server, and it still gave it a huge performance boost. 30GB was enough for me as it is only for the OS and for a couple of media streaming apps I use to stream to the rest of my network. Overall very satisfied.

3 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: Cheap ($50) for 30GB. Works great when it does.

Cons: Judging by scan of other comments avg. lifetime about 1 year, with variance from DOA on first receipt to over 3-4 years. Appears to have just failed for me on linux after about 6-7 months.

Other Thoughts: I didn't expect this to work more than 18-24 months only a little disappointed didn't last at least a year. Would be great if manufacturer wasn't trynna jerk people but that would be asking too much. Wanted to know about SSD and now see the issue is all about the vendor quality.

5 out of 5 eggs still works

Pros: Pretty fast

Cons: Not really a con but this is the only thing that's giving me a low windows rating, transfer is a little on the slow side.

Other Thoughts: Still works after 3 years but it is probably time to upgrade.

2 out of 5 eggsFast until death

Pros: 2-drive Raid 0 setup produced amazingly quick bootups and system response

Cons: Lasted just over a year and one drive is DEAD DEAD; SMART shows tons of read/write errors.

Other drive is not far behind as it too shows too many read/write errors.

MTBF 1.5 million hours....yeah right...

Other Thoughts: After reading up on OCZ RMA process and their "wonderful" customer service, it looks like I'll spend more in shipping and get old or outdated drives back, making the effort futile. It's time to upgrade anyway and I'm definitely trying a different brand.

5 out of 5 eggsNot for just windows

Pros: This SSD was nice and installed great.
Fast as I needed it to be.
Access media crazy fast.

Cons: Nothing wrong with the device or the storage.
Read the Other Thoughts.

Other Thoughts: CONS EXPLAINED- I have an HDD that's 1TB which I hold everything non-windows files. This means Program files (And x86), Program data, Users. All the 30gb SSD has is files to run windows with updates and it still only has 3gb's after all said and done.

-Main Notes-
Want just windows? *Get 60gb's+*
Want fast access media? *Get this*

Because its my own stupid fault for undershooting, it gets 5 eggs for holding windows, managing data, and holding out till I get a proper 120gb in 3 days.

Hope this Helps someone.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat ssd

Pros: for only $55, this is great for its price. i installed my OS on it, and i have a boot time of 10-20 seconds.

Cons: the only con i can think of is that it is only 30GB

Other Thoughts: i should have gotten more of these and put them in raid

5 out of 5 eggsbest durned drive ever

Pros: Here I am back again to write how awesome this drive is. Sadly the users like the one below me don't know about flashing this drive :( I've lost count how many times I've done it, install a berg connector boot up click the app shutdown remove jumper from drive Restore image All done
I've been running this drive 24/7 since Dec 09 at this rate it will out last its usefulness

Cons: I got this for 129 in 09 now they are giving them away if you want to join the ranks of SSD users just step up to the 60 gig version for a coupla bucks more, you can run Win_7 and keep your data on one of those silly magnetic old slow spinny drives and enjoy all the SSD goodness you deserve!

Other Thoughts: I wonder if the new Vertex 4 drives are awesome, cuz this one keeps working I've no need to upgrade, mebbe one day ;)
