5 out of 5 eggsEver Ready

Pros: Still in continuous use 4 years, 10 months, and 22 days later
I've never had a problem since the final firmware release.
If it ever isn't seen in BIOS I simply reflash and restore in under
five minutes.

Cons: I don't have any cons but for users that couldn't easily reflash the firmware this drive wouldn't have been a satisfactory user experience.

Other Thoughts: I believe this drive will last forever.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Drive

Pros: Extremely fast for my HTPC build. Alternatively great for a slimmed down OS drive.

Cons: Didn't install itself? Not much to really say negatively

2 out of 5 eggsPoor lifespan and customer service

Pros: Cheap, fast

Cons: Customer service, warranty policy

Other Thoughts: An OCZ Storage Solutions SSD I purchased 08.2010 died in 1.2013. Refurb promptly also died 6.2014. I got the run-around for a while until I was told it's now out of warranty.

That'd be fine if the drive was the original, I guess, but it's their inferior refurb that's now dead. That's 2 drives dead, each with a lifespan of 1-2 years.

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost 4 years until kaput

Pros: This was great back in Dec '09 when I bought it. Speedy, good price.

Cons: It ran until Oct '13, but now the BIOS/an external enclosure won't recognize it, etc etc. I guess I blame sandforce? I haven't really looked into it.

Other Thoughts: I guess some spinning hard drives have died faster than this little guy, but I'm a little disappointed. Seeing as how they don't make these anymore, I don't really know why I'm writing a review. Closure, I guess.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Vertex1AShootingStar,

This may not be closed yet! The original Vertex series does have a way of restoring functionality of a drive that developed an unknown issue. This is called the destructive updater. Please visit the link below for a complete guide. If you experience any issues running the updater please create a new post in our Support Forum and we will gladly assist.

Thank you for sharing your feedback.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: Has never failed me after 6 months, was up to date with firmware when delivered. Win7 x64 Pro went on without a hitch and the boot time is sharp. This is on my HTPC which only has the OS and XBMC on it

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT

Pros: Fast, Very low cost

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I put this into my 7 year old Pentium D server, and it still gave it a huge performance boost. 30GB was enough for me as it is only for the OS and for a couple of media streaming apps I use to stream to the rest of my network. Overall very satisfied.

3 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: Cheap ($50) for 30GB. Works great when it does.

Cons: Judging by scan of other comments avg. lifetime about 1 year, with variance from DOA on first receipt to over 3-4 years. Appears to have just failed for me on linux after about 6-7 months.

Other Thoughts: I didn't expect this to work more than 18-24 months only a little disappointed didn't last at least a year. Would be great if manufacturer wasn't trynna jerk people but that would be asking too much. Wanted to know about SSD and now see the issue is all about the vendor quality.

5 out of 5 eggs still works

Pros: Pretty fast

Cons: Not really a con but this is the only thing that's giving me a low windows rating, transfer is a little on the slow side.

Other Thoughts: Still works after 3 years but it is probably time to upgrade.

2 out of 5 eggsFast until death

Pros: 2-drive Raid 0 setup produced amazingly quick bootups and system response

Cons: Lasted just over a year and one drive is DEAD DEAD; SMART shows tons of read/write errors.

Other drive is not far behind as it too shows too many read/write errors.

MTBF 1.5 million hours....yeah right...

Other Thoughts: After reading up on OCZ RMA process and their "wonderful" customer service, it looks like I'll spend more in shipping and get old or outdated drives back, making the effort futile. It's time to upgrade anyway and I'm definitely trying a different brand.
