VERY impressive.
- Pros: -FAST: up to 155MB/s writes, 220MB/s reads on AMD SB700 (Firmware 1275)
-ABSOLUTELY ZERO stuttering, even before the tweaks recommended on OCZ's forums are applied, thanks to 32MB of cache (64MB on the 120 & 250GB models), and they require less tweaking than cacheless SSDs. -Near-zero seek time combined with fast sustained transfer rates dramatically improves system responsiveness; everything from booting the OS to opening programs is faster. -Barely gets above ambient temperature, even with no airflow across the drive.
I cannot stress enough how highly I recommend these (see 'other thoughts') for ANY system-even basic machines with cheap CPUs and integrated graphics. If you can deal with the cons (such as they are), this thing is a worthy upgrade that makes a substantial, noticeable difference, even in 'light duty' systems that only see things like web surfing, e-mail and never play a game more complex than solitaire.
- Cons: Nothing significant; the two cons I'm about to list are temporary issues, and one of them is not the fault of the SSD itself.
-Firmware updates cause complete data loss, for now (OCZ is working on updates that won't do this) -Not exactly a 'plug & play' device; some tweaking in the form of partition alignment, disabling the Windows indexing service and system restore and some other stuff (see OCZ's forums) is required or highly recommended. HOWEVER, this is **NOT** a fault of the SSD, nor is it exclusive to this SSD. No current mainstream OS was coded to deal with solid state discs, so it takes some tweaking to optimize them (to the extent that that is possible) to work with SSDs. If you don't want to deal with that, DON'T BUY A SSD. Not this one, not any other one. They ALL require some finessing to get the most out of them. On the flip side, if you can put up with that (as I've said everywhere else...), you won't regret this purchase.
- Other Thoughts: This drive WILL make a real difference to system responsiveness, no matter what you use the system for. Whether you've got a gaming system, a workstation, or just a basic home/office box that does nothing but e-mail and light web surfing, hard drives are the single biggest bottleneck in the system. Period. Every time a program goes to get data off the hdd, your system sits there, shuffling its feet, humming Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up", waiting on it.
And a good SSD like this is MASSIVELY faster than a hard drive of any kind. Seek times of 0.1 milliseconds vs. about 10ms for the 7200rpm drives in most desktops and 15-20 in laptops-100-150x faster. 1000s of IOs per second vs. 100s for hard drives. And sustained transfer rates that are ~1.5-2x faster. Yes, these things are expensive compared to hard drives; buy one for your OS & programs, and a regular drive for storage. This is the only piece of hardware in recent memory that's actually worth what it costs, imo.
Amazing
- Pros: First off, I'm an IT Administrator of 8 years. I purchased 2 of these for a RAID 0 setup on a gigabyte board with intel onboard raid, and the performance is unreal. Getting 440mb/sec reads with .1 latency - Windows 7 loads to desktop in seconds, and shuts down even faster.
I will be purchasing one more ASAP to add a 3rd disk to my stripe - 660mb/sec reads....
- Cons: absolutely zero. Those of you looking at this drive from a price per gig perspective have got it all wrong. These drives are not for storing your data(personal files/mp3/movies/etc.) They are for holding your OS and program files. When you look at the drive in that sense, it is well worth the money for the performance increase you get in return.
Only minor con is these aren't too friendly with nvidia onboard raid - but it's nvidias fault not OCZ. I switched to gigabyte and couldn't be happier.
- Other Thoughts: For those of you with ~Q6600/etc. thinking of upgrading to an i7 setup, seriously consider 2-3 of these instead! The hard drive is by far the biggest bottleneck on a machine - 3 of these in RAID 0 offers a HUGE performance increase over traditional drives.

RAID 0
- Pros: OCZ worked with me directly to correct an error I was seeing. RMA'd old drive and was sent new one with updated bios.
- Cons: Can't install itself. :D
- Other Thoughts: Running in raid 0 and its a burner!
Great drive
- Pros: High speeds . Responsive, no studdering. Relative lower cost per performance. No issues!
- Cons: Cost per gigabyte still prohibitive, firmware differences not immediately clear (you have to flash a different firmware version to get garbage collection, comes with trim enabled). Some of the screw holes drilled were a bit off and the threads were not clean - made it hard to get in my notebook without damaging its case. Makes me scared that OCZ would reject the drive if I ever need to RMA it because I had to scratch the case to get it in. Rebate process is poor, and a debit card is not a good system - makes it hard to spend.
- Other Thoughts: Boots Win7 x64 in ~30 seconds, shutdown takes 6 seconds on a bottom of the line Turion X2. After trimming the Win7 install down to make some room on the computer (before: 8GB free, after 19GB free) makes a great boot drive. Made my bottom of the line Turion X2 notebook fly and become very usable. Opening Firefox or Chrome is near instant. My high powered gaming machine w/ RAID 5 doesn't even come close to the responsiveness of this SSD.
Speed up Windows 7
- Pros: Fast boots on Windows 7, even after a month of use about 15 seconds to desktop, including the time for me to type in the password.
- Cons: None so far
I won't say the size, I didn't get this thing for storage but for speed
- Other Thoughts: SSD's are expensive for storage space, however getting one such as this for a boot drive is absolutely worth it. I've been setting up servers for years and we always setup a RAID 1 for the operating system and then RAID 5 or 10 arrays for data. Basically you do the same here without RAID (It is a home system and I backup to external drive and I'm not that crazy about speed). Use this as your boot and operating system drive, buy a big SATA 7200 RPM drive for under a hundred for your storage and programs and make sure you install all your programs there and move your libraries to the large drive as well. Now you are blazing fast.
Windows 7 already includes many of the tweaks you will read about on the forums, this operating system was built with SSD's in mind. If you are using a different operating system read the OCZ forums, heck read them with Windows 7 as well, there are some additional things you can do to help performance over time. The OCZ forums are a great resource.
