Very fast
- Pros: Very fast, even without the 1275 firmware. Forums at OCZ are very helpful, and clearly the people behind these drives are doing their utmost best to support the drives and users. I aligned the partition to 128 using clear guides on OCZ forums and did a clean install of XP32, then applied the tweaks in the auto-tweaker utility (on OCZ forums) and the drive is blistering fast. I'm using this in a Lenovo X61S/4GB and I have no faults at all.
- Cons: The battery life hasn't increased much, the heat production hasn't changed, but the computer is much quieter and runs so much smoother. Realigning the partition seemed scary at first but the posts on OCZ walk you through everything. I have had zero lockup or stuttering problems with this drive although there are reports of the 1099 firmware having some issues.
- Other Thoughts: There appear to be some hardware issues with updating to 1275. The 1275 update thread at OCZ is rife with weird problems apparently related to specific chipsets. I'd make sure you have at least 2 different desktops available to try the firmware update. There is one post there saying an external ESATA enclosure can be used for the firmware update (a USB enclosure cannot).
These issues certainly make one think carefully about updating the firmware. Doing a firmware update removes the data on the drive, so do this before you install everything if you're considering doing it at all.
Supposedly the new drives shipping from OCZ have the 1275 firmware, so they will be in the pipeline shortly.
Insane performance!
- Pros: Insane, blistering performance e.g. Photoshop loads in LESS than 5 SECONDS!!! LOL! Silent. Low power consumption. Runs cool to the touch.
- Cons: At this point, $'s per MB! Not really a "Con," but it's a bare drive, so pick up a 2.5" - 3.5" adapter and SATA Data/Power Combo Cable to install it in your case.
- Other Thoughts: As others have said, this is bleeding-edge technology right now, definitely NOT Plug 'n' Play! I spent weeks on the OCZ Forum checking this out, educating myself on the technology, before I took the plunge.
Because of the limitations of the technology itself - these drives wear out as soon as you start using them, like an old fashioned 12" LP or a tape - these are ideally used as an OS + Apps drive, data should be kept on a traditional HD.
As of now, there are two basic firmwares, v1.4 & v1.41; my drive shipped with v1.4 which is optimized for Win7, XP will require a firmware flash to v1.41 and "Drive Alignment" before the Windows install.
The OCZ Forum is your friend; there are detailed step-by-step guides to setting these drives up in almost any configuration, including RAID.
To get the most out of your drive be prepared to tweak your system, including the OS & Registry; see the OCZ Forum for detailed instructions... and be prepared to be blown away!

Awesome...
- Pros: Fast, small and light. One of these is faster read/write than my old HDD setup of 2 x 640GB RAID0.
- Cons: Too much $ for too little space
- Pros: Much faster and quieter than my mechanical hard drive. System starts up in less than 45s in Windows 7 even after everything was installed. Applications open faster even without Superfetch or Prefetch enabled.
- Cons: Updating the firmware to 1.5 caused me quite a headache for 2 hours (CD method froze after the 1st step and USB gave me a write-protect error). Solved by manually running the correct updater referenced in updater.bat.
- Other Thoughts: Users with nForce chipsets in W7 need to install the nForce drivers first and then reinstall the Microsoft drivers in order to make TRIM work properly (even Wiper.exe does not work without doing this first).
Not worth it IMO
- Pros: It's fast when it works. If you get one that happens to work properly then send some of your luck my way. Not a whole lot of good things to say about it.
- Cons: Shipped with FW 1.42 which according to forums not many people even had, and not until recently was there an update to the 1.5 firmware for people who were shipped drives with 1.42. My OS would install, and then after every reboot I would have to run chkdisk, only to then blue screen blip and the computer continuously restarting. On the few occasions I made it to the desktop, nothing would open up, said it wasn't finding files that programs needed to run and would crash. Got progressively worse after each boot, often times got errors on boot stating the disk and OS files were corrupt, etc. Tried everything OCZ forum techs and other forum helpers said to no avail, getting the same results everytime regardless of the firmware version or system configuration. Installed my OS (win 7 64 bit) and programs onto a WD Caviar Black 1TB without a SINGLE ISSUE WHATSOEVER. All the time you save from quick load times will catch up with you in troubleshooting problems and drive maitenance/degradation
- Other Thoughts: IMO, if your wanting a SSD, go with Intel, and even so you should wait 6 months-year until the technology is better/lower price at earliest. If you buy this drive, or any OCZ drive, count on it coming with outdated firmware and having to flash it yourself or sending it to OCZ to update, which in some cases depending on your current version can be a destructive flash, erasing all data on the drive, or if done wrong can brick the drive. Over time, due to current technology as well, the drive will slow down. Everyone on the forums who has had the drives for at least a few months are noting slow downs and bench tests stating the drive is degrading/showing signs that the drive has a very short life span. I'm returning this to the store I bought it, since it was slightly cheaper there than newegg (sorry newegg!), I'll buy a Intel SSD next time around in 6 months or a year, maybe OCZ if they step up their game. Plan on having problems if you get it now.

Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are sorry that you had difficulties with this product. It sounds like your drive has developed a problem, and a replacement should take care of things. Firmware is installed before a product is packaged, then Product is shipped to retail outlets and it is delivered to the customer. If there is a firmware update, the customer will need to flash it, or have it flashed, if they require the update for their application. This is no different than purchasing a motherboard, or a newer cell phone, as BIOS and OS files are updated frequently. Please visit the link below and create a support ticket to get in touch with our support staff. We will be happy to assist you. Thank you
