Pros: Very high benchmarks, and theoretical output

244 MB/s read (HIGHER than advertised)

Cons: Somewhat slow latency (14.5ms) on write. (Read is 0.9ms)

54 MB/s write (WAY lower than advertised, but still beats most HDDs)

VERY HOT. 151F on a surface scan with an IR scanner. (The scanner shows 141.6. My CPU shows 102.5, and the internal thermo reads 104. NB shows 109.9, internal shows 110. So the IR is relatively accurate.)

Other Thoughts: 2.5" form-factor may be standard for SSD, but is still annoying for desktop users. Desktop users are, after all, their primary market at present.

Overall: NOT worth the investment. I found the $150 30GB OCZ Vertex far superior. For the same price, you can get four Vertex and have a 120 GB drive that benches beyond what most onboard can handle: 728 MB/s read, and 298 MB/s write, with 1.9ms write, and 0.5ms read.
I'm not sure I can understand why their budget line outpaces their performance by such a margin.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry, as these drives should not normally run hot, so something may be amiss. Please visit the link below and create a support ticket to start the RMA process if required.
Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsWhen will SSD replace traditional hard disk?

Pros: I like replacing the hard disk of my notebook computer to prompt its performance. My testing notebook is Thinkpad X200s. I replace its hard disk with OCZ Apex 250GB.

Cons: Two issues for OCZ Apex:
1) Temperature: The temperature of OCZ Apex goes very high after running one hour.
2) After running one hour, the performance goes down sharply. The writing and reading is under 60MB

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, these drives should not run warm. Perhaps the CPU in your system is simply warming the drive. We are sorry that you seem to be having performance issues and would be glad to assist you on our support forums at the link below.
Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsThis drive rocks...

Pros: Just installed this drive in a 2.33 GHz MacBook Pro and this thing rocks. Boot time is fast, as one of my friends puts it "I have never seen a laptop boot that fast!"

Cons: Price, but worth it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking on Lenovo T61

Pros: This drive works fine in a Lenovo T61 if you either load the AHCI driver using a usb floppy when loading Windows, or go into bios and change the SATA controller to IDE instead of AHCI.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Most notebooks are shipping with bios that enables AHCI for maximum performance on the SATA controller.
When loading Windows, you must either use a usb floppy drive and press F6 when booting off the windows cd, or slipstream the drivers into the Windows cd image using nlite. It the same process if you were using an onboard raid controller. Don't downrate a product because you couldn't get it to work. Any drive (SSD or regular) you plugged into the current configuration of your laptop would prevent Hard disk from showing up when installing Windows if you don't load the AHCI driver.

1 out of 5 eggsNot for a Lenovo T61p

Pros: It is a great drive that does what it is supposed to and matches up exactly with what the manufacturer's claims.

Cons: The only way that this drive can be used in a Lenovo T61p laptop is in the UltraBay. It CAN NOT be used in the primary drive slot on the computer. The computer's BIOS will NOT recognize the drive. Since it is after market, support from Lenovo is weak as well. Their suggestion was that if I wanted an SSD, I would have to buy one of theirs and they would support that drive. Support from OCZ was weak as well. All I got from them was, "Really? Don't know what to say... If you figure it out, let us know what you did."

Other Thoughts: Anybody have any ideas what a $800 door stop looks like? I'll give you a hint...

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry for the problem. I found a few threads on the T61p and it seems that with the latest BIOS a customer was able to get his OCZ SSD drive working. Please visit our support forums at the link below and search for T61p and post for help.
Thank you

5 out of 5 eggswow

Pros: Great drive! Access times, read/write times are very close to the rated numbers. I put this in my ASUS N10 Netbook and at least doubled the performance of the computer. It fully boots n about 10 seconds when before I could turn it on, walk away for a couple of minutes, and when I came back it would just about be ready to use.

Cons: Heat is a minor issue, but nowhere close to the 160GB 5400RPM drive this drive replaced. No eggs taken away for that, I just thought people should know that the drive does get warm.

Other Thoughts: Great drive, a bit pricey, and the price dropped $100 about 3 days after I got it. Oh well, the price you pay for jumping on the wagon.
