4 out of 5 eggstime before failure?

Pros: fast

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: the rated MTBF is 1,500,000 hours.
that equals about 171 years.

why even list that in the specs?
just one of those things that make you go ,... hmmm

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive SSD HDD

Pros: Speed. Super fast SSD HDD.
Works great in a PS3 console. Out preforms my other PS3 with a 7200rpm 400GB HDD.
A must have for hardcore gamers.
What can I say, it's crazy super fast.
Did I mention the 128MG cache!!! most others are 64MG.

Cons: It will burn a hole in your wallet. Wish capacity was larger.

Other Thoughts: Buy it.
You will wish that you bought one for everything that takes a hard-drive.
You dont even need to worry about magnets that much since there's no magnetic platters in this device, it's all NAND gates.

4 out of 5 eggsnice drive

Pros: Running with Win 7 64-bit. I got the new firmware that does have garbage collection. performance is better than my 3 disk RAID 0.

Cons: SSD need their firmware updates and so far Samsung has not allowed OCZ to release the firmware update tools

Other Thoughts: Samsung will supposedly release firmware updates when win7 is officially released. I docked a star due to the lack of firmware updates, but the drive itself is excellent

5 out of 5 eggsSSD

Pros: Absolutely awesome SSD. Ocz makes the best SSD's out there. Some try and say that the intel runs better but I don't see the intel's IOPS near as much as Ocz's.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: If you have problems installing windows 7 RC on the SSD and it says error code 0x8001071007 or something close to that, I can't remember the exact numbers its because the BIOS is not set for the NAND controller for a SSD. You need to use a updated BIOS revision of some sort and flash it too your new motherboard. If you can't install windows and the expander files then when it restarts pull it out and let it finish in the new system. I had to go with option 2

3 out of 5 eggsSummit a dead-end?

Pros: Performs as advertised. As I also received an "1801" version, only time will tell.

Cons: I can only agree with NEKON. This drive is probably a dead end. A perusal of OCZ forums leads one to the conclusion that Samsung WILL NOT SUPPORT flashing this this drive . This means that OCZ cannot do so either. The fact that Newegg recently dumped the 60 GB version of this drive as a "Shellshocker" and no longer lists it, should tell you all you need to know.

Other Thoughts: Unless Samsung/OCZ do more to support these drives, I also CANNOT support them. Simple as that.

5 out of 5 eggsVery fast

Pros: Note - I have the slower 60 GB Summit version (220/120 read/write vs 220/220). I have two words: CPU limited. I replaced a 7200 rpm drive in my work laptop with this drive and whenever I'm waiting for something, it is almost always the CPU now, which is amazing. I'm a developer and my system constantly has to read a lot of small files and this thing just flies. XP boots up in seconds now, only waiting for the CPU to finish processing or for a service to start.

I'm in heaven :)

This drive also has the auto "defrag" (if you want to call it that) so you don't have to run the trim commands or run win7 to keep performance during its lifetime.

Cons: High price per megabyte.

Other Thoughts: If you get a SSD and you are running XP, you technically should setup your start sector to be at sector 128 rather than 63 so that your drive does not have to do two sectors for block erases.

Also, for longevity, you should really move your page file and temp directories to a traditional drive.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Deal Breaker

Pros: Fast... really fast. Installs just like any other hard drive. Newegg's dealbreaker gave me the affordable chance I was looking for to finally jump into the SSD world.
Works great on Windows 7 RTM. Installed and booted to the desktop in under 10 minutes (Including the time it took to fill out the forms, Product Key, and Windows initial performance cheks)
$289 was a FANTASTIC price for this unit at the time of purchase.

Cons: I've been using this device for little over a week now, and with heavy daily use (I'm a .NET programmer utilizing Visual Studio 2008, MS Office, SQL Server 05 & 08) I have not seen any signs of degraded performance. Logic dictates performance will degrade over time without a new firmware from samsung, but It doesn't appear I will be needing it for a while. I look forward to the release. I'd rather go ahead and flash a new firmware sooner than later, but for now, performance is not a con by any means.

Other Thoughts: I highly recomend this drive paired with Windows 7 to any Windows Programmer (Windows and ASP.NET). Visual studio launches almost instantly; large projects load and compile very quickly; attaching visual studio debugger to your application takes no time at all. It may just be the buzz of newer technology, but I honestly feel like I am being far more productive with my time.

1 out of 5 eggsyou pay for what you get, not alway a good thing

Pros: Speedy at first, never hangs up.

Cons: slows down after moderate use. it was shipped with old firmware, i am having an impossible time trying to find the new one. havent had any luck getting info on it. forum posts relating to the Summit firmware has been taken down, a little smelly if you ask me

Other Thoughts: I fallowed all the suggested steps, like disabling defrag and such, they did help, but i was really expecting more for how much i paid. I am not so disapointed with the ssd as i am the support... it even seemed like they went out of their way to help at first, and then nothing.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry that you are experiencing slowdowns. These drives are quite fast, and we anticipate being able to release a firmware update soon that will keep them that way for the long haul (as fast as new). We have not yet posted any firmware updates for this drive, so rest assured we have not taken them down. We do anticipate having a firmware update posted soon. Feel free to visit our support forums again and post about your issue. We are there to help, and will see that you are satisfied with your purchase. Please mention that you were sent by the OCZ support rep at Newegg.
Thank you
