Offering your system the incredible performance of flash-based storage, the OCZ Agility Series delivers the performance and reliability of SSDs at a lower price per gigabyte than other high speed offerings currently on the market. The OCZ Agility Series is the result of all the latest breakthroughs in SSD technology, including new architecture and controller design, blazing read/write speeds, and 64MB of onboard cache.

Perfect for notebooks and desktops alike, the Agility Series is ideal for energy-efficient mobile computing to extend battery life, increase the speed of access time, and provide a durable alternative to conventional hard disc drives with superior shock resistance. High capacities and low power consuming NAND flash technology provide the necessary performance and battery life boosts generated by the proliferation of mobile gaming and new ultra-thin laptops.

The OCZ Agility drives feature a durable yet lightweight alloy housing, and because OCZ SSDs have no moving parts, the drives are more rugged than traditional hard drives. Designed for ultimate reliability, Agility Series SSDs have an excellent 1.5 million hour mean time before failure (MTBF) ensuring peace of mind over the long term. All Agility Series SSD drives come backed a three year warranty and OCZ's legendary service and support.

Pros: The speed of SSD drives are great. I have gone from around a 30-40 seconds boot time with traditional 7200rpm hard drive disks, to less than 10-15 seconds (this time is from pressing the power button to being within Windows with all programs loaded).

Cons: Though they are fast, they are also fairly fast to their grave. I have purchased 4 OCZ 60 GB SSD since Oct 2010 (1 Vertex Series, 1 Vertex Turbo, 1 Agility Series 1, and 1 Agility Series 3). Of those, 1 died within warranty, which I was able to get RMA through OCZ; this process was fairly easy and within 1-2 weeks, I had a replacement. However, this drive later died within the next year. 2 others died just 1-2 months outside of their warranty so I was unable to get those replaced. I still have 1 that I ordered last year (Agility 3) that is still working for the moment. The signs I saw when they started going bad were typically OS crashes, random disconnecting, and eventually no longer recognized by BIOs, which prevented me from attempting to upgrade the firmware.
So on average, I got about 2-3 years from a roughly $1-2/GB investment.

Other Thoughts: I used these drives in different machines and for different uses. Some were solely for OS and programs, while others were used for installing PC games onto. All storage were handled by traditional hard drives.
I suppose their value comes down to each individual. To myself, when I look at traditional hard drives that I have owned since 2005 and still use them today, I would expect at least someone similar results from advanced technology. I understand that in 2010, SSD drives were really starting to take off so purchasing them were a risk. However, when you buy from various batches over the course of 2-3 years and still end up with the same results, it is hard to justify. I have another SSD from another company, which I have had for about 2 years; so far, I haven’t had any bad signs as of yet.
So I can’t say whether OCZ’s manufacturing or if it is still the technology, but at this time, I don’t believe I will order another SSD from OCZ. I have RAM from OCZ, which has been running great for 4-5 years; I feel they are a good company. I feel there is some major issues with their SSD line of products which need addressed, and hopefully, newer models are proving better.

1 out of 5 eggsBad experience with my first SSD

Pros: Fast SSD

Cons: Worked great for about 2-3 months. Booted PC one morning and BIOS could not find the hard drive, lost all data on the drive. :( OCZ support created a case, sent in my bad drive and they sent me a new one. Sold the new one I received, wasn't going to risk another try.

2 out of 5 eggsMhreh.

Pros: It's a SSD.

Cons: The plastic connector was brittle enough that it came loose and eventually broke from just the vibrations of my PC so it no longer can be read.

1 out of 5 eggsBad for long term

Pros: Fast when it works!

Cons: Failure after a certain period of time.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive in early 2010 with hopes of longevity and reliability..But those hopes were shattered..the drive only lasted 8 months before it started giving me trouble..Ever since then it has been a nightmare. The computer randomly reboots, and sometimes will not boot back into windows because of corrupt files. I keep all my important files on another hard drive, and a backup of my /Users/ folder handy because I have to format this about once every 3 months. I RMA'd this drive in August, installed windows, and now I am currently reinstalling windows again because it has lost the data once again! The RMA obviously didn't help one bit.
I've read many SSD reviews and it seems OCZ drives have more problems than any other company in the race. Intel has the least reliability issues so that's who I'm going with next. Never buying an OCZ product again, and I would advise others to do their homework before settling for a cheaper product.

2 out of 5 eggsDied

Pros: Fast & quiet if it works.

Cons: BIOS can't detect it after 6 months.

Other Thoughts: After I switched to Vertex 2, the BIOS can't detect this SSD anymore. I have Vertex 2 now and I will make sure it won't have any important data.

1 out of 5 eggsFail!

Pros: When it worked, it was a significant upgrade from the traditional platter drive.

Cons: Terrible failure as a hard drive...complete shutdown and inaccessible data after 13 months of use. There is an method to reactivate the drive for those that are technically adept and wish to throw the drive into engineering mode...but who has the time to go through this hassle? DO NOT PUT CRITICAL DATA ON THESE DRIVES!

Other Thoughts: My RMA request is in, and I will see how OCZ addresses the issue...and I will adjust the review accordingly, but I have to say this is a disappointment.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are very sorry for the problem. Our staff will gladly see that you are taken care of. Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsChanged What Computing Means To Me....

Pros: Fast, reliable, and shock resistant. Everyone needs to switch to SSD. Three of my friends bought this model on my advice, and months later they are still thanking me for my reccomendation.

Cons: Makes you VERY impatient when working on computers with a standard HDD.

Other Thoughts: SSD is the future. Get an external enclosure for your old HDD and use the SSD for your OS only. Loads Photoshop in three seconds.
