2 out of 5 eggsDied after 4 years of web-browsing use

Pros: It wasn't a dog while it lasted. I lasted long enough to warrant the very small price.

Cons: It became unrecognized at the 4 year mark. Used for a browsing laptop OS drive. It is a hassle when drives die.

Other Thoughts: It should last a bit longer IMHO. But obviously it was a good value for the tiny price I paid.

2 out of 5 eggsshort life and short change on RMA

Pros: little bit faster than my latest regular sata hd and transfer speed more constant from outside track to inside track

Cons: MY ssd die after 8 months of lightly usage (SHORT LIFE)
My origional ssd was 64g unformatted and 60g after formatted from MS OS reported. Unfortunatly, my RMA replacement ssd is 60g unformatted and 55g after formatted (SHORT CHANGED)

1 out of 5 eggs1st SSD Experience

Pros: Out of the Box It was VERY FAST,
It slowed down over time.
Never was warm.

Cons: About a week agon just FAILED.
device manager can't see it, BIOS does not see it.
No Warning just happened.
Lost a lot of data.
Don't know if I'll buy OCZ again or RECOMMEND

Other Thoughts: I bought this to run a DATA recovery server for my clients. Hopefully I just got a lemon -
Newegg won't RMA because its more than 30 days.
We'll see if OCZ has good tech support

5 out of 5 eggsFirst SSD

Pros: Fast drive, great price/performance ratio (for a SSD), reliable Indilinx controller. Huge upgrade from any mechanical drive.

Cons: Not as fast as some Indilinx drives due to relatively slow memory. SSDs in general are dramatically faster than mechanical drives, but there still is some waiting for boot and for launching of large applications.

Other Thoughts: 60gb with Windows 7 makes this a great drive for both your OS and your collection of most-used programs. However, it is probably not enough to install all applications that many enthusasts will have Install these less-used apps on a separate drive and all will be fine. Of course, also keep huge audio/video collections on a cheap mechanical drive. This had great price/performance ratio at the price I bought it at, but this isn't the fastest SSD on the block so be sure to shop around.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive for a great price

Pros: Very fast at loading apps. Open office opens before I even think about it, well almost. and Adobe Reader 9 blinks on in no time at all. First time a hard drive hasn't affected the windows performance number.

Cons: None yet. Didn't have any way to mount it in case so attached it sideways in space leftover in 5..25 mounts of my case.
I though windows would load faster, but I really haven't tried to tweak boot times yet.

Other Thoughts: Wish I could afford about 1000 gigs of SSD so all my games can fit on it.

5 out of 5 eggsFaster than old Vertex Turbo / Agility

Pros: Its cliche, but this thing is fast. There is noticeably less delay in general computer usage, and performance generally feels on-par with all these "current gen" CPU's, etc. It finally feels like computer use got faster with hardware.

I use my PC mainly for 3D modelling and digital painting and these programs load up as if they were on RAM the whole time. Its nothing new if your used to seeing these apps load quickly anyways due to superfetch.

After installing Windows 7 Pro, I still had 52 GB free to install my apps. I don't intend to use this for gaming because I'm not an adolescent child.

I use an array of WD Caviar Black in RAID 1 for reliable data storage. Its easy to backup a 60 GB image weekly.

Cons: SSD's are still far too pricey. Should be used only for OS and critical applications. Bootup times alone should not justify the purchase.

Other Thoughts: Limiting myself to 60GB of fast storage has improved the way I work. I no longer leave files / folders lingering around my drive and I tend to optimize my OS and remove the fluff I won't need.

Also, I find it strange that almost all reviews on SSD post only the throughput of 200 mb/s. This is not at all why anyone should buy an SSD, because you could easily match that speed with two 7200 RPM drives in RAID 0.

What really matters are those low access times, and great random 4K read speeds (that apparently improve over time!)

4K Random reads (NEW): 29.95 MB/s
4K QD32 Random Read (NEW): 69.46 MB/s
Roughly 7,300 IOPS @ 0.12ms

This is why you should get this drive.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing SSD for the $

Pros: Installed Windows 7 Pro 64 on this SSD in less than 10 minutes from a flash drive. Reads are around 220 MB/S in HD Tune, ATTO, and Crystal Disk mark. This drive is giving better results than advertised. Check out Bjorn3D's review on this drive. OCZ has links to reviews on this drive from their website.

Boot times are incredible - I wrote a batch file that is executed at Windows launch that opens 15 programs and they all fire up almost instantly at boot.

Cons: No TRIM support for XP or Vista. TRIM only works in WIndows 7.

OCZ does have a tool on their site for XP and Vista users to provide gabrabe collection.

Help @ OCZ forums is kinda iffy - Staff doesn't seem to respond to many threads there for some reason.

Other Thoughts: I can't believe I went this long without an SSD for my desktop.

This SSD right now is the best alternative to an Intel drive for the money. Many companies have released the Sanforce SSDs recently and they perform better but come at a higher price. For the money, I don't think you'll get something better than this.

Things everyone should (& shouldn't) do with their SSD -
*Don't defrag your SSD
*Take Window$ page file off your SSD
*Disable preftech, superfetch, & indexing
*Disable hibernate & system restore

1 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Fast, inexpensive, good capacity. Ran my i7 Win7 system like a champ.

Cons: It ran for a few days before the OS corrupted. Reinstalled, then a few days later the user profile corrupted. I gave it one more chance: two weeks later the computer chkdsk'ed itself after the profile corrupted again. RMA'ing through NewEgg.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I got a bad one? I'll update if the RMA unit bombs out as well.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry for the problem. Your replacement should work well for you. If we can be of any assistance, please visit our support forums and post in the flash/SSD section. We are always happy to help.
Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsBest Value

Pros: Fast. If you're thinking about moving away from HDD to run your OS & programs but don't want to spend too much on technology that will suddenly 1/2 in price, then this SSD is for you. OCZ has shown excellent quality and are well respected in the industry. I have this drive dual booting in an old mac book, and even though it's only running with sata 1.5gbs, it feels faster in many ways than my quad core 3.79ghz desktop running a standard HDD. This drive has no problem running Snow Leopard or Windows 7 and hasn't shown any sign of slow-down thanks to TRIM support.

Cons: Now that I know how great SSD technology is, I need to buy one for my desktop too.

Other Thoughts: SSDs were like the missing link of computing, CPUs, GPUs and Memory are all really fast, but HDD is sloww. Goodbye bottle neck, hello SSD.

1 out of 5 eggsNo customer service @ all.

Pros: Their support team is good at ignoring email.

Cons: Been 8 business days, I have email them twice, 0 word from them.

Other Thoughts: Not gonna purchase any OCZ product anymore, I have learn my lesson.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry, but we do not use email for customer support. Email was extremely unreliable, and spam was a huge issue (spam filters can delete some customer emails as well). Please visit the support page link below and create a support ticket to get in touch with our staff. We will be very happy to assist you. You may also visit our support forums and post in the Flash/SSD section for assistance.
