1 out of 5 eggsGood for 3 years and 2 weeks.

Pros: Fast

Cons: It lasted 2 whole weeks past the 3 year warranty. For an 1100.00 hard Drive, I was hoping for something longer then that.

2 out of 5 eggsreviews don't lie

Pros: wicked fast while it works

Cons: died after two weeks of mild use, one of the 4 internal drives has failed

Other Thoughts: I guess it's early enough I can RMA through newegg, kind of a shame it died so quickly. I really do like this setup.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry for the problems. Please RMA with Newegg for a replacement drive. We can also be of assistance, and answer any questions you may have on our SSD support forums at the link below.
Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsWould not purchase again

Pros: All-in-one

Cons: Using S5520SC motherboard. OCZ pre-sales said it was compatible in either the bottom 8x slot or the either 16x slot. Well... that was a lie. It won't fit in the top because of a heatsink above it. It won't fit in the bottom because of a capacitor. And to make it fit in the second 16x slot I have to angle the GPU up and the SSD card down (a V shape).

Additionally, Windows 7 is having compatibility problems. It stutters every couple seconds. So I'm stuck using Vista...

Other Thoughts: Only getting 110MB/s read. OCZ is not helpful. This is a thousand dollar mistake.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry that you are having problems. On the OCZ product page that we have linked to below, on the specifications page, under resources you will find guides and a compatibility list. When motherboards are designed, it is not uncommon to find that spaces that should be open and free of obstacles are not. This varies with the manufacturer. We will be glad to assist you with installation and setup on our support forums at the list below. Also, please feel free to call our support manager at 1-800-459-1816 ext 206 if you would like to speak with us.
Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost there

Pros: It doesn't take up a drive slot. It has one of the fastest read/write ratings of all the drives I have studied. Physically an easy install.

Cons: You have to have a PCi-e slot. Some things its super fast. Windows icons and moving between programs- Wow! Database searches are about the same as my 7200rpm drive.

Other Thoughts: It is quiet, the computer it is in seems to be operating cooler with this drive rather than the old 7200 3.5" drive it replaced. Not sure whether it was the drive partition copying process or what exactly, but I had to repeat the drive prep twice before it worked...ten had to resort to a win 7 volume repair.. As forums suggested, I turned indexing off. If it gives any more trouble. ?? It is overpriced....but I love to experiment- can't wait till these are mainstream.

5 out of 5 eggsWarranty Replacement works!!

Pros: When it works it FLIES! I am now getting 620 MB/sec out of it. Once IO got an RMA they had the repaired unit back to me in less then 10 days. Not too shabby. Looks like they are finally listening. It just pain SCREAM! (it is also 100 bucks off right now, too).

Cons: Kind of large.... wrong drivers still on Web site, but I imagine they may fix that some day. It has a newer controller in it than the first versions had which is why they have the wrong driver. It did take them 3 days to initially respond to complaints.

Other Thoughts: We keep the indexes to one of our DBSs on it, and it is just plain FAST. A complex search on our DBS with 4 7200 RPM disk in striped raid was 60 seconds - the same search is now 5 seconds. I kid you not.

3 out of 5 eggsWish I researched more thoroughly.

Pros: Fastest SSD you can buy!

Cons: This thing is way too wide. You will not be able to use the slots above or below the PCI-Express lane this card is installed on. The back of the card has a large heat sink on it and this card will not fit next any of the 2-slot video cards. This is not a good choice if you plan on running a SLI or Crossfire setup. This card takes a long time to initialize before windows starts booting up, once it does get started, it's off to the races!

Other Thoughts: If you want some stellar read/write speeds this thing is stupid-fast. Unfortunately for me I had issues with the one I received and had to RMA.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: Fast, fast, fast. I'm not sure about the other reviews but I had no trouble getting this ssd to work. Plugged it in, loaded os (with minor bios changes). I suspect people that had bricked drives or problems don't know about computers.

Cons: Nothing so far. The drive is a bit big so make sure your case will except it.

Other Thoughts: Could be a bit cheaper, but hey that's life.

5 out of 5 eggsYou have no idea

Pros: I installed this on my Alienware just to test it out before I received the rest of my new build.

Lets just say at 580MBs there is nothing faster. I am a gamer and I hate waiting for anything to load, and trust me on this, with Windows 7, you will not find a faster drive for the money.

Plugged in, loaded up new OS, downloaded Steam and wow, I am so happy.

Cons: Price could be a lot less than 1k. The 1tb should be $1500. and this should be around $500.

Other Thoughts: For those who have to go get drivers for there OS, you should really upgrade to to this decade.

1 out of 5 eggsOff to a bad start

Pros: So far only hype. I havent gotten to put it to the test yet.
Cutting edge tech only found on NewEgg :)

Cons: No manual. For such a high end item I would have expected more detailed manual than a single sticky pad size note saying plug it into the PCIe 8 or 16 slot. (I am hoping this is because it is plug an play and that really is all there is to it.) How about instructions on what to do at the SLI screen CTL-C prompt during first boot? How about what does the blinking green light and yellow light indicate? What BIOS settings are recomended?
When I plugged it into my P6T Deluxe V2 MB I got what appeared to be a start up screen for the raid (SLI). Shortly after that (about 7 seconds) it corrupts the graphics on the PC and nothing. I noticed on the card its blinking green at a steady rate. Not like its being accessed. I RMA'd it back to NewEgg and am waiting for the replacement. I tried the forum link in an earlier post but the OCZ site/forums dont have a section for these PCIe card based raid units. Luckily I had Newegg to post on.

Other Thoughts: I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I have an exisitng striped raid with 2 raptors, and another OCZ 120g SATA II SSD. I have a single NVidia GTX 295. I am a software developer and run multiple VMs.

I will update this post when I get the replacement.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry that you are having problem using your drive. We have updated our SSD support forums with a Z-Drive heading. Please visit us and post to ask any questions you have. We realize that new technology can be difficult, and we are happy to help.
Thank you

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate to review

Pros: Really, really fast program installs and loads. Windows 7 install (from usb stick) took 6 mins from starting to first reboot!

Cons: Approx 1 month into ownership I began having computer lockups. Running chkdsk would find filesystem errors in the bitmap and other errors. Eventually I could have the system running for a day, reboot and chkdsk/f would find errors everytime. My Windows 7 install got corrupted and I got an RMA from OCZ. They received it 2 weeks ago and there has been no action: No replacement unit is in stock.

Other Thoughts: Interestingly I had a 32GB USB stick that failed and was replace by OCZ last year and it also took 1 month total to get a replacement in my hand.
I wonder if these Z Drives are "not ready for prime time"
OCZ has been 2 for 2 on very slow RMA replacements.
I agree with the other reviewer in that I have not been able to get the unit to be recognized by 32 bit XP

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we aplogize for the problem and the delay. We will get you replacement unit as soon as we recieve stock in. Your RMA is our top priority.
Thank you
