1 out of 5 eggsFast...while it lasts

Pros: Fast, as expected from an SSD.

Cons: Dies within 1 year.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these and they both died within 1 year, with no possibility of data recovery. The 3-year warranty looks good until you realize it only covers replacement, not refund. If you build a system with OCZ link-image EVERYTHING except Windows to a standard hard drive, and keep your system discs handy, because it is only a matter of time. I only lost 2 weeks of work, but that is enough to suck.

1 out of 5 eggsChange my opinion on SSDs

Pros: While it worked it was extremely quick, and improved my performance across the board.

Cons: After about four months the drive failed with no indication anything was wrong. On top of that the data can only be recovered by an approved recovery firm, or you must void the warranty to unlock it.

Other Thoughts: The sad reality of SSDs is they aren't aren't ready for prime time yet, but you wouldn't know that by reading reviews from respected outlets. Because the game they play is about publishing articles faster than their competitors in order to get the lion share of traffic for anticipated products. Everyone wants to know if it's good or not, and they fill that demand as quick as they can. Unfortunately, there's no financial incentive for them to play it different.

Hopefully one of the major players will develop some social responsibility for what the publish, and take a hard look at what's more important: lining their pockets or the consumer. If you're going to use one of these drives keep your saves on an HDD, don't use sleep-mode because writes kill these drives, and wait till consumers have had the drives in their hands for at least four months.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent SSD

Pros: Nice price for a SSD, packaging was not damaged on arrival. Used as standalone for OS did the job it was selected to do giving me a 5.36 sec boot up time.

Cons: Haven't had any issues with the device. It did crash out on me after three months of use but nothing a clean install wouldn't fix.

Other Thoughts: Seeing that SSD are a relatively new technology The gig per dollar is expected to be higher than a standard HDD. Will not be purchasing another SSD until the technology has been perfected and the gig to dollar ratio has averaged out.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat while it worked

Pros: very fast quiet cool and low energy used.
used as a boot drive. bought June of 2010 when they were using quality parts. Love the speed.

Cons: stopped working after17 months of light use without any warning. restarted my system and computer no longer sees the drive. changing sata settings cables and power cable had effect. Win7 64 bit no longer can see the ocz ssd.
Now I bought the 50gb version because an engineer explained the units 50, 100, 200 have 28$ overprovisioning for more space that the drive can remap bad sectors to - behind the scenes- automatically.

Other Thoughts: Does anyone know of a more reliable yet fast device?

3 out of 5 eggsAmazing for a time

Pros: Boots Windows in less than 10 seconds while being infinitely quieter and more efficient than an HDD

Cons: Died on me after about 8 months in the middle of using my computer.

Other Thoughts: On startup it said "Bootmgr not loaded", and then I saw the BIOS didn't even detect the drive anymore. Tried all the fixes I saw online and nothing. I'll be getting an RMA, but I don't plan on buying OCZ again.

3 eggs because it's still under warranty and it was really awesome when it worked.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate your firmware

Pros: This drive is quick for the money, especially when HDDs are now running at least $80. If you UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE, like it says in half the reviews for this product, it's fine.

Cons: The fact that it needs a firmware update out of the box to be stable is unfortunate, so I'll dock one egg for the average consumer who may not think to update firmware.

Other Thoughts: It irks me to see one or two people posting several 1 egg reviews on a single product. You're skewing the already unbalanced ratings (because people are much more likely to share their negative experiences than positive).

Pros: Speed is amazing
Never had any problem with it

Cons: Just worried about its lifetime, can it die randomly, sure it can, but will it

1 out of 5 eggsDead, 6 months to the day

Pros: - short boot time
- Easy installation
- Nice 2.5 to 3.5 adapter
- "My SSD is faster than your HDD" sticker

Cons: - Only lasted 6 months
- 50gb is barely big enough for an OS drive
- Not cheap for the size
- Issues with hibernate

Other Thoughts: Without warning (as SSD's do) the device BSOD'ed and now is not recognized in any of my Sata ports by my BIOS. It's now an expensive paperweight and only 6 months old. I opened an RMA ticket with OCZ. Judging by how many of these experiences are rolling in I'm definitely going for a refund. I just hope they don't waste my time making me try to bother with the firmware as I hear it's a headache if this is your OS drive. BUYER BEWARE!

1 out of 5 eggsNot reliable

Pros: Fast, no noise.

Cons: First drive failed after 6 months. It appears drive has problems when machine goes to sleep mode. I could resurrect it a few times by powering off the machine and waiting some minutes before powering on again. Got another from warranty service but it is starting to exibit same problems as before, that is, the BIOS simply doesn't see the drive there after coming from sleep.
Good thing it is 3 years warranty, but if I have to burn $10 every few months for shipping this back for warranty service it will end up costing more than a more reputable brand.

Other Thoughts: Searching for "OCZ vertex" I found dozes of reports of this drive failing. I should have researched before buying it but now it is too late.
BTW, that must be the reason why this drive is so heavy discounted at other online retailers.
