Based on a cutting-edge new architecture, Vertex 2 Solid State Drives raise the bar once again and deliver unprecedented performance for the complete gamut of gaming and professional multimedia applications. OCZ designed the Vertex 2 to surpass the competition where it counts most, pushing the limits in both sequential and random read/write rates. With spectacular performance in 4k file writes up to 50,000 IOPS, these latest drives take productivity to the next level with over ten times the performance of the previous generation. Using the latest controller technology, Vertex 2 not only provides a faster, more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives.

With sheer performance that outpaces the competition, the Vertex 2 doesn’t lose sight of what makes an SSD the ideal storage alternative to hard drives and delivers the quality, reliability, and durability demanded by consumers that will not settle for anything but the best. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Vertex 2 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 notebook or desktop upgrade.

  • newegg Cool, quiet and durable operation OCZ Vertex 2 SSDs feature a durable yet lightweight housing, and because they have no moving parts, they are more rugged than conventional hard discs. Available in ample 40GB to 480GB capacities, the Vertex 2 is an ideal hard drive replacement for first-time SSD upgraders in need of primary laptop storage or a spacious application and OS boot drive.
  • newegg Ultimate reliability Designed for ultimate reliability, Vertex 2 Series SSDs have an excellent 2 million hour mean time between failure (MTBF) ensuring peace of mind over the long term. Vertex 2 Series comes backed by a 3-year warranty and award-winning technical support for the ultimate peace of mind.
  • newegg TRIM Support The OCZ Vertex 2 Series SSDs offer native TRIM support that can be enabled in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.
  • newegg 2.5" to 3.5" Adapter Included The OCZ Vertex 2 Series is specifically designed for notebook computers coming in a 2.5-inch hard drive form factor. In addition, the installation kit includes a 2.5" to 3.5" bracket for matching with 3.5” drive bay to extend the storage of your desktop computer.

2 out of 5 eggsalmost a year

Pros: drives where fast when I first got them. tested well great reviews. used in raid0

Cons: Drive failed 5 months shy of a year I noticed slowing of the pc and then blue screen followed by IO errors I'm a little disappointed cause I've had mechanical drivers last 5x as long

Other Thoughts: The RMA process seems to be painless so far I submitted a ticket Friday and first thing Monday morning I was greeted by an email saying I was approved. now I mail it off and wait to see what happens

1 out of 5 eggsLong Term Junk

Pros: Works great...for a while.

Cons: I've bought around 10 of these for different PC's around the office. THEY HAVE ALL HAD ISSUES. They die at varying lengths of time but they inevitably DIE.
After being less than impressed with OCZ power supplies, you can safely assume I will never purchase another OCZ product again.
What an utter lack of Quality Control this company has.

Other Thoughts: I am a C-level executive / IT Director has built dozens of PCs over the last decade.

Save yourself a headache and go with another manufacturer. I recommend Intel. Used a lot of Intel SSDs to clean up OCZ's mess.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in 3 month

Pros: Fast when worked

Cons: Unreliable. First OCZ Vertex2 drive failed within 18 months. This drive is a replacement, failed within 3 months.
I have two different models of Kingston SSDs, one in my kid's PC which takes a LOT of abuse, and it's going strong for two years now.
OCZ is just not reliable.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat drive while it lasts...

Pros: Installed flawlessly and ran wonderfully for exactly 6 months. Going through RMA process now. Must admit I bought this expecting it to fail. Read the reviews. They are directly to the point. These drives seem to fail much more than other SSD manufacturers on the market. I keep rolling backup's of my system and all important data on other drives so there was no data loss.

Cons: These drives should not fail this quickly or often. There is obviously a design flaw or substandard materials used in the manufacturing process. I was considering stepping up to the REVO drive but I'm reluctant to spend that much money on a drive that will most likely fail within 6 months.

Other Thoughts: Not so sure about ever buying OCZ again. While the RMA process is easy and efficient, a week without my primary drive is just not acceptable...

Manufacturer Response:

We sincerely aplogize for the problem. It is our goal to see that every customer is satisfied with their purchase, and we will see that you are properly taken of. While less than 1% of our customers actually experience issues, most of those are firmware related, and we have newer versions that help with reliability. Your replacement drive should serve you well. If we can be of further assistance, please visit our support forums at the link below. Thank you

3 out of 5 eggsThe light that burns twice as bright burns for half as long

Pros: Very fast drive. Easy to install and no issues with initial setup. Performance is great.

Cons: Drive lasted about 8 months (Feb - Oct). RMA in progress.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure if I would go with an OCZ SSD in the future, as I've been reading about failure rates for SSD and OCZ comes up repeatedly as having a high rate of failure.

1 out of 5 eggsDied peacefully in its sleep

Pros: Worked well...

Cons: ...for 2 hours. I powered down my PC before I went to work and when I tried to boot up afterward, it was dead.

Other Thoughts: NewEgg very quickly approved an RMA and I will try again with SSD #2.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry for the problem. We are confident that your replacement drive will work out fine. If we can be of any assistance, please visit our support forums at the link below. Thank you

3 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasts

Pros: Fast boot with Windows 7 - subtracting POST time, it takes about 20 seconds to boot on my Gigabyte MB. Also depends on motherboard. My DFI board would boot in 14 seconds!

Would have given more stars if not for the failure rate.

Cons: First drive failed after 6 months. The replacement failed after 6 months. The third drive failed after 1 month. I am waiting for the replacement. OCZ does make it easy to RMA and they ship quickly, although no cross ship so it takes about a week to get the new one.

Other Thoughts: The original drive and first replacement apparently had 32Gb die while the latest used the 64Gb die. Don't know if this is the reason, but the first 2 drives has faster write speed when used with TrueCrypt (100MB/s) while the latest one only had 60MB/s write. Read speed for either was around 180MB/s. Without TrueCrypt the new drive got up to 250MB/s read and write speed. All speeds measured with ATTObench32 (v 2.46). My HDD speeds are not affected by TrueCrypt - stays at 110MB/s read and write.

5 out of 5 eggsOCZ Vertex 2 100GB SATA II SSD

Pros: Works great in my summer 2010 MacBook Pro, just don't forget to enable trim support if you're using a non-thunderbolt equipped Mac (download trim enabler, click patch, then erase free space in disk utility).

Cons: Nothing yet

Other Thoughts: Great performance increase for the price, flawless installation, would consider buying another as a boot drive for my Gateway desktop.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy - Data Loss

Pros: Very fast drives when working. Pretty retail packaging.

Cons: I own a small computer services company in Colorado. Over the last 12 months we have installed over 30 of these (and similar OCZ) drives. At least one out of four of these drives has already failed! I am now expecting the rest to fail at any time. One was DOA, and the other failures were during use and involved complete data loss. This is making my company look very bad in the eyes of our customers. These drives are NOT reliable. Do NOT take the risk and use one of these drives. You will be sorry. All of these installs have been done on brand new computers running Win7 Home Premium or Professional with no overclocking or other performance tweaks whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: OCZ has replaced the drives as they failed. This does not help my customers who have lost all of their data and/or had significant downtime due to these failures. The replacement drives are the same product with presumably the same issues, so substituting bogus for bogus does not improve reliability. I will now be seeking REFUNDS instead of replacements. Needless to say I will think twice about using this brand again and may consider not installing any SSDs unless/until their reliability improves. Of course, all of these drives have been purchased via newegg and their service has been excellent.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are very sorry that you have experienced difficulties. Please contact our support manager at (408) 733-8400, ext 206. We will be happy to assist you. Thank you
