Based on a cutting-edge new architecture, Vertex 2 Solid State Drives deliver unprecedented performance while maintaining an affordable storage solution for early adopters looking to update their systems with the latest technology. OCZ designed the Vertex 2 to excel in both sequential and random read/write rates to take your PC or notebook productivity to the next level, featuring superb 4KB random writes up to 50,000 IOPS to give a performance edge over the previous generation. Using the latest controller technology, Vertex 2 not only provides a faster, more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Vertex 2 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows7 notebook or desktop upgrade.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSD’s translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg Better Performance Built with MLC NAND flash and the latest generation SandForce SF1200 controller featuring award winning DuraClass Technology, the OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD delivers industry-leading SSD reliability, performance, and power efficiency, with maximum read speed up to 285 MB/s and maximum write speed up to 275 MB/s, plus incredible random 4K write performance of 50,000 IOPS.
  • newegg TRIM Support The OCZ Vertex 2 Series SSD’s offer native TRIM support than can be enabled in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked great. Failed fantastically

Pros: When it worked, I'd gave it raves. It was a superior drive on speed and didn't have a problem one with it. Until one day, it decided it just didn't and it failed hard. Personally, for the money.. Not worth the pain.

Cons: Seems like I'm the other with the complaints of it dying right outside the warranty. When it failed, it seriously failed. No warning, nothing other than started making my machine hang on POST. After alot of patience, I got it reformatted and actually was using it as a secondary storage device for temp files until today. Total failure and machine won't POST even when drive is in as secondary. Don't even consider this drive. I was an OCZ cheerleader but now off to another more trusted brand.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed in 3 years, like many

Pros: My initial review was 5/5 back when I initially received the product. Worked fine while it worked...

Cons: Failed in three years. A lot of people have been having failures at around the three year mark. This item used to be 5/5 review score but the sheer number of failures have dragged it down.

It was a tremendous pain when this thing failed. Funny how it failed right outside the warranty period.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 3 years

Pros: It was fine for 3+ years

Cons: It failed in 3 years.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy from OCZ, sooner or later you'll regret it. 3 years is a long time for some but I've got a Western Digital clunker HDD from 2005 that still spins up and works from a Dell I had in college. With no moving parts you'd think these drives would last ages. I've been disappointed yet a again my OCZ. This is my 3rd and last failed SSD from them.

3 out of 5 eggsFast... but a failure at just over 3 years

Pros: Drives are fast. I ran 2 of them in RAID-0... and, thankfully, also had said RAID-0 backed up on a separate volume.

Cons: One of the disks failed with no warning after 3 years and 3 weeks. I'll check on a warranty replacement, since it's just barely over 3 years, but I'm not holding my breath, since it was a 3-year warranty.

Pros: Worked well while it was functioning.

Cons: Died in less than 2 years; apparently a big problem with this brand of SSD.

3 out of 5 eggsFailed in 40 months

Pros: Silent, FAST, capacity to comfortably hold Windows 7 OS.

Cons: Failed in 3 years 4 months.

Other Thoughts: My desktop system use of light to medium. Loosing the OS drive is a much bigger pain that loosing a backed up data drive. Shucks.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Fast

Cons: Died after 1 month of use. I purchased two of these and created a raid out of them and they both died at the same time and I lost everything. Didn't expect to need to have a second backup since they were in a RAID.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked for a long time 2 years and 354 days

Pros: Fast speeds
Worked pretty good for almost 3 years

Cons: well 10 days before warranty expired it just up and quit working. Hopefully RMA will kick in even though its close to the warranty expiration.

Other Thoughts: To the guy below me funny how we bought ours at the same time and they died at the same time.

2 out of 5 eggsVery Fast but....

Pros: Wow very fast, loads windows in 10minutes. Updates take forever but that's not the drives fault. Did I say it was fast.

Cons: Purchased in 2011, it took a few month's before I noticed it started to hang up on Windows loading. Figured it was a problem with the install. I did it again, again and again.... It would hang as the windows logo started to appear. Every time?? I learned to just let it sit. eventually it would load. It finally died. That sucks. My HDD's lasted longer? I thought the benefit of a SSD was no moving parts therefore a longer lasting product? Somewhat disappointed. I just entered a ticket with OCZ. Looks like I may have 30 days left on my warranty. However with my luck they'll find an issue where that won't be the case. "Fingers crossed"

Other Thoughts: I've never had a product make such a significant boost to my computers speed than this SSD. Upgraded memory, Video Cards etc... SSD's are the way to go. I just hope that in my case they are ultimately more reliable. Again fingers crossed that OZD will help take care of this defective drive
