3 out of 5 eggsGreat while it works

Pros: Solid functioning RAM when it works. I started with two sticks of this in my PC and all was well. Upgraded to four sticks and it was even faster.

Cons: Its just under two months now and one of the sticks is causing major problems. Computer keeps crashing due to memory issues.

Other Thoughts: Will report back with how well OCZ's return policy works out.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are very sorry for the problem. Please visit the link below and create a support ticket to get in touch with our staff. We will be happy to assist you. Thank you

2 out of 5 eggsFalse Advertisement and Bad Support

Pros: I own two sets of this memory. The first set I owned for months and the second set about a week.

Both sets work at stock speed setting (non-OC advertised speed). If you want to run at the advertised speeds you can only have one set installed. You can not run the full OC'd speeds with two sets installed. OCZ claims they set their speed to run at stock speed of 9-9-9-20 @ 1.5v 1333 MHz out of the box for more compatibility. Too bad they don't tell you this upfront. You have to find this out on your own.

Heatsinks work quite well and are narrow enough to allow you to fill all RAM slots.

When I ran one set I rated this 4/5 eggs. But with all the hassles of trying to get through to OCZ tech support, not getting all of the right information, not being able to achieve advertised speeds, and OCZ not being upfront about the settings and limitations of having two sets I had to drop this down to a 2/5 eggs. The only reason I didn't go lower was the memory at least functions.

Cons: False Advertisement:
Does not run at advertised settings w/o OCing your BIOS.

Can only have one set to get full OC speeds, any more sets and you have to run slower or stock settings.

Hit or miss tech support:
The first time I posted in the OCZ tech support forum I received a quick response from OCZ staff. However, they did not give me all the information needed to properly set the RAM to run at advertised speed. They also ignored my question about installing a second set. Turns out they know two sets can't run up to speed so they chose to ignore it. After installing the second set the system wouldn't boot unless I turned the RAM settings to stock. I posted in OC tech support forums again. It's been a week and no response. I called OCZ, and I all I got was a recording to open an online trouble ticket for email support. It's been days and no response. I spent half a day calling tech support to finally get through and get the answers I needed.

3 months to get rebate.

Other Thoughts: Stock auto setting yields 9-9-9-20 @ 1.5v 1333 MHz. Which was used w/ CMD 1T.

One set installed OC'd to advertised speeds requires going into the BIOS and setting memory to 8-8-8-24 @ 1.65v 1600 MHz. Which was used w/ CMD 1T.

Two sets installed may not work at any OC speed. OCZ tech said the best you can hope for is memory timings on auto, CMD set to 2T, MHz set to 1600, voltage set to 1.65. This worked and yielded timings of 9-11-11-24.

On my ASUS MB the closest voltage choices are 1.64v and 1.66v. I have only tried 1.64v and have had no issues when OCing the RAM. On auto I get 1.5v.

I am NOT a happy OCZ customer.

System Information:
ASUS Striker II Extreme MB, 3.0 GHz Core 2 Duo E8400, ASUS Royal Knight CPU cooler, Arctic Silver 5, 4 x 2GB OCZ RAM, 2 x WD 500GB RAID drives in mirror, EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+ SC 512MB, 2 x Lite-On DVD-RW burners, 3.5" drive w/ memory card reader, Rosewill Challenger mid-tower, Thermaltake Toughpower 750W PS, Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we aplogize for the difficulties you have had. We have in the past shipped memory fully programmed at rated speeds. Since memory voltages cannot be programmed to insure that proper voltage is applied when booting, the result is that many systems simply will not boot. In the end we receive back a high percentage of "DOA" memory kits that are working perfectly. This is why we program at lower speeds for compatibility. The issue with running more than one kit at the rated speed of a single kit comes from the added stress on your memory controller. Depending on the chipset, and even the quality of your specific memory controller, it may be possible to run 2 kits at rated speeds. We don't promise that, and all kits are rated at the size they are sold. If you buy a 4gb kit, the rated speed is based on 4gb. Purchase a 8gb kit, and speeds will be rated at an 8gb memory load. Thank you

5 out of 5 eggscoolest looking ram

Pros: I cant beleive the bad reviews of this ram I think it is just incredible. Not only did I use it with an AMD (1090t) I used it with an Asus mobo which have been known to be very picky what they will run. I got a windows experience index rating of 7.6 and was at stock clock and 1.66 volts

Cons: I love it cant see one bad thing but maybe that it will get in the way of a big heatsink

Other Thoughts: I am so happy with it I just cant imagine how it got such bad reviews it is superb, just fantastic great wonderful everything good and nothing bad.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM, Great Price

Pros: I've been using this RAM for about four months now in OCZ's default setting. OCZ sets this memory to run at 9-9-9-20 @ 1.5v out of the box. They do this to decrease the chance of compatibilty issues.

I finally overclocked the memory in the BIOS a few days ago to run at the advertised speed of 8-8-8-24 @ 1.65v. So far, so good. I have not had any memory issues that I have seen since doing this.

I really like the heatsinks on here. They definitely work. You can feel the heat transferring from the memory to the heatsink. Also the heatsinks are narrow enough that there is no problem filling all the memory slots.

OCZ tech support in their forums is insanely fast. I was getting responses from actual OCZ techs in just a few minutes of posting. It would have taken me longer to call.

I would have preferred that his RAM ran at the advertised 8-8-8-24 @ 1.65v right out of the box without me having to find out on my own that it does not or having to adjust it in the BIOS.

Cons: I have one main complaint and one small complaint.

The main complaint I have is that OCZ is not upfront about the advertising of this RAM. No where in their description or in the box does it say they have it set to run at a default of 9-9-9-20 @ 1.5v. If I had not read the reviews here first I would have never known that my RAM was running slower than advertised. I don't always read the timings in the BIOS. That brings me to my next point. If I had seen in the BIOS that this memory was running slower than advertised I would have been very unhappy. All OCZ had to do to get rid of this headache for people was to just be upfront and put it in the description and on the box.

The small complaint I have is about the OCZ tech support forum. They respond fast, but I had asked a few questions in my post. The OCZ tech who responded would only asnwer one of the questions at a time, so I had to keep re-asking some questions over and over.

Other Thoughts: I would have liked the option to attach fans to the heatsinks.

This RAM runs at 9-9-9-20 @ 1.5v out of the box. You have to go into your BIOS and manually set it to run at 8-8-8-24 @ 1.65v.

My ASUS Striker II Extreme only allows changes in 0.2v increments. So my options were 1.64v or 1.66v. I have it running fine at 1.64v. I didn't bother trying the 1.66v since I'm not having any issues. OCZ said either setting would have been fine, but the lower the voltage setting that you can use without errors is the more desired setting.

I recently ordered a second set and plan to go 64-bit Win 7 Ultimate.

4 out of 5 eggsOne more thoght

Pros: Just messing around in my system bios...i bought 4gbs of this ram and it is saying i only have 3.25 installed? Not sure why it is saying this???

Cons: None, yet

Other Thoughts: Many people complain about bad sticks. More than likely they are breaking them when trying to force em into the mboard.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, it is normal for Windows to report less memory than you have installed. Your operating system is reserving a portion of your memory for system devices. The full 4gb is there for your system to use. Using another system information program should show the full 4gb is installed. Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsI hate DOA

Pros: One stick works!

Cons: Another stick doesn't!

Other Thoughts: RMA has charged me $20 bucks for delivery.
I can forgive you guys damage a motherboard on the way, but how can you destroy a memory in such tiny package?
It's all about OCZ's poor quality control.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are very sorry for the problem. Our staff will see that you are taken care of and receive a good working kit. Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM...too bad one was defective

Pros: Extremely good ram, very fast, with only 2 gigs in the machine it can still run any game with no problem even with background programs running, love the handles

Cons: One was defective when i received it, would black screen after a short time and give me false readings

Other Thoughts: Only reason i gave it 4 eggs was the fact that one was sent defective, other than that it's a great product for my new machine

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Great price point, runs fine at rated voltage and speeds, looks great with the over-sized heatsinks!

Cons: SPD is set to 1333mhz and CAS 9. No big deal for the experienced builder, but might frustrate a first-timer who has no experience setting their own memory speeds/timings.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this RAM because of the free shipping and a deal. After reading several of the negative reviews, I started to worry I had purchased an item that would not work well.

After installing the RAM, setting the timings and speed, and doing countless Memtests, I have to say that everyone needs to remember that the most vocal group of people are those with problems. I've had no issues with this memory, and I'm probably going to purchase a second set!

2 out of 5 eggsgone after three days?

Pros: Fast, looks cool, good price, stays cool. It's more than likely the mobo's fault.

Cons: After three days of somewhat light usage (several attempts at OS re-install with the nightmarish mobo drivers, not this thing's fault) the RAM would start to, for lack of a better term, fail on me, resulting in memory management errors, and a physical memory dump, I was able to boot into Win 7 a total of one time with this memory.

Other Thoughts: I'm not 100% sure if it is this memory or not, but I'm sure that at least this, or the mobo is defective, and without one, I have no use for the other (only DDR3 modules, only DDR3 mobo). I am sending both in for a refund.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are very sorry that you are having difficulties. We will be happy to assist you with troubleshooting to identify your actual problem. Please visit the link below and post in our support forums. One quick tip is to insure that you have set your memory voltage in BIOS to 1.65v as shown on the label on each stick. Thank you
