The OCZ RevoDrive makes fast, faster with an innovative performance design that pushes the envelope in solid state technology and leaves hard drives in the dust. Moving beyond the bottleneck of the SATA interface, the RevoDrive features a PCIe interface to deliver superior performance. Designed for high-performance gaming PCs and workstations, the RevoDrive dominates thanks to the unique capability to run both Windows and your essential applications and games. With speeds up to 540MBps and 75,000 IOPS, this bootable PCI-Express SSD not only provides a more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. The RevoDrive can accommodate a wide range of computing environments such as video-editing and other multi-media creation and management, all while providing the superior durability and reliability of SSDs.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSD’s translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg Incredibly Fast Performance The RevoDrive family gets its edge by employing a PCIe x4 interface (1GB/s bandwidth as opposed to 3Gb/s of SATA II) and two SandForce-1200 controllers in RAID 0 design to maximize data access and bandwidth. Therefore the RevoDrive SSDs (50GB-80GB) feature up to 540 MB/s read & 450 MB/s write speeds, up to 350 MB/s sustained write speed, and incredible random write up to 70,000 IOPS (4KB Aligned).
  • newegg Bootable The OCZ RevoDrive is powered by the PCI-Express bus and OS bootable allowing for use as the primary boot drive and super-fast system startup. (Motherboard supporting boot over PCI-E is required.)

3 out of 5 eggsNot easy to boot from

Pros: Matches all the speed specifications. Very fast. I am using it as the root filesystem for a media and file server. For windows users, pretend I have my program files and windows folders on this device.

I didn't integrate RAID feature I opted for Linux software RAID1. Benchmarks with bonnie++ just above 500 MB/s.

Using as an 2 5GB partition in a software RAID1 as an ARC2 cache for ZFS-fuse on Linux provides almost a 10% boost to my zpool read performance. This may be an extreme example all the other disk in my zpool are slow green/eco-friendly drives.

Cons: Does not boot on many system, including mine. I had to install bootloader on another drive and have the kernel load from a normal mechanical drive (not possible to the best of my knowledge on windows while keeping the 'program files' and 'windows' folder on the SSD raid).

I have an ASUS m4a7t Deluxe with the latest BIOS as of last week. Even though the OCZ and ASUS both say this works, I cannot find the options to get this in the boot menu in any way.

Another issue that I was having had to do with stability. Apparently in this can be unstable in systems with variable lanes on PCIexpress 16x slots. My motherboard has 4 16x slots. Two are variable, and 2 are not. Moving this card to a blue slot has removed the need for monthly reboots.

One last issue that is unavoidable from OCZs standpoint (I think). Since this tries to be bootable and provides multiple disks it needs to load stuff at boot. Loading this stuff takes too long, people seeking to reduce boot time will be disappoin

Other Thoughts: Still fast and a viable option for those aware of the cons and needing a disk that is fast in a constrained situation.

2 out of 5 eggsLimited Use

Pros: Don't know since I can't use this in my settup.

Cons: The spec says Linux support but no Linux driver is available.

The spec also says Used For: Consumer. Turns out this means that if you use this in a server, your warranty is voided.

I've seen a lot of people ask if this can be used with ESXi. The answer is no!

5 out of 5 eggsModern Turbo button replacement

Pros: *Fast, fast, and oh did I say, FAST?
*NO cables to cause clutter
*Fairly easy setup, quick installation

Cons: *Occasionally (rare though) you must remove it and reseat it, if you bump your computer (tower configurations)
*Multiple step installation, you cannot just zip in that windows disk and go

Other Thoughts: In all reality, there are no major cons. The reseating is cured with a case that has card supports, or in my case, modding some of your own card supports (this is recommended anyways if you run large graphics cards or other heavy cards). Since its 4x, there isnt a lot of board real estate going into the PCI-E slot, so this issue makes sense.

The install really is not much more hassle than the old days of F6ing to install sata drivers. As for compatibility, always check this before buying abstract hardware :)

I have had this running for 2 weeks shy of 1 year. I leave my PC on 24/7 for my Habitarium game, and my rig has ran beautiful with no flaws since I added the card supports. I will not put 50Gb as a con, since I bought it knowing this, though larger would of been better. I bought this, because at the time, the price and speed was just right, in the sweet spot between slow and too expensive.

Revodrive series I highly recommend

Rig - i7 920, MSI Eclipse Plus

1 out of 5 eggsno linux

Pros: fast

Cons: be advised that the status on your trouble ticket has been changed from Acknowledged to Waiting on Customer with the following comment:
Comment: Hi Peter,

Currently, there are no drivers or Linux support for our PCI-E based SSDs, in regards to the Revo drive.

We do have other products, mainly in the Enterprise line of SSDs that may be more compatible with Linux based operating systems. You can check out the OCZ Enterprise based site if you'd like, or if you would like to the contact information for our Enterprise team, I can provide that for you as well.

Other Thoughts: i run linux, so 0 eggs for this puppy

5 out of 5 eggsgreat but small

Pros: wicked fast 'n small

Cons: its itty bitty, windows 7 all my drivers and utilities only left me with 4 gigs remaining, I'd have to say just go for the 120 its not much more and you'll be happy with the space

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Loads Windows 7 in under 15 sec.

Cons: 50 GB is not what it used to be.

Other Thoughts: I had the drivers unzipped and ready on a flash drive so installation was surprisingly simple. Would have been frustrating if I had expected pure plug and play.

2 out of 5 eggsHeadache!!!

Pros: installed Windows 7 with all the updates and runs extremely fast couldnt be more happier with that.

Cons: After installing windows the next day when I turned on computer it wasnt picking up windows. Having trouble reinstalling it because my computer wont read the hard drive. I had this same issue with this drive when I was installing windows the first time but I found a driver online and installed it on the computer and finally saw the drive. Have to do this same process again.

Other Thoughts: Would be nice if it came with a Driver cd!

5 out of 5 eggsTop tier performance

Pros: - Absolutely amazing performance, windows 7 boots in 16 seconds and is ready to use right away compared to booting from a mechanical hard drive. The advertised 540MB/s read speed is no joke, either.
- The lack of support for TRIM made me think twice about getting it, but I have to say it doesn't need TRIM. I bought my revodrive in december 2010 and it's just as quick now as when I first booted up, both in benchmarks and how the operating system responds.

Cons: - It can be tricky to get windows to install and run from this drive at first, but the drivers were easy to load. ASRock released a BIOS update specifically for this drive that fixed a few problems my motherboard had with it. If your windows install is getting bluescreens, check for a BIOS update.
- There is no header for a status LED like every RAID card I've had in the past, and the onboard one can't be seen from inside my case.

Other Thoughts: This SSD is worth it's jump in price over all the other SSDs of its size, and I would not hesistate to buy a newer version for my next desktop.

3 out of 5 eggsWish I could get my money back

Pros: I've been a happy OCZ customer for years with first a Core SSD, then a few regular Vertex SSDs, then a couple Vertex 2 SSDs. With a good track record, I thought it would be a no-brainer to get this drive. Theoretically, it should kick rear end. It *is* fast, but not as fast as I was expecting.

Cons: Had I not already had the experience of OCZ SSDs, this rig would probably have made me quite happy... but it's not much faster than a single Vertex 2 SSD. I was hoping to see a really fast Windows 7 boot, but it still takes around 35 seconds to have a usable system after the initial Win7 splash screen.

Other Thoughts: The pros are that this is a fast RAID 0 system that does not use any SATA ports. For me, it's just not worth the $200 I paid for it - the value is just not there for me. I was hoping my $200 would result in a hugely noticeable increase in speed over a single Vertex 2. No doubt a Revo X2 would give me that, but at much more cost.
