The OCZ RevoDrive makes fast, faster with an innovative performance design that pushes the envelope in solid state technology and leaves hard drives in the dust. Moving beyond the bottleneck of the SATA interface, the RevoDrive features a PCIe interface to deliver superior performance. Designed for high-performance gaming PCs and workstations, the RevoDrive dominates thanks to the unique capability to run both Windows and your essential applications and games. With speeds up to 540MBps and 75,000 IOPS, this bootable PCI-Express SSD not only provides a more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. The RevoDrive can accommodate a wide range of computing environments such as video-editing and other multi-media creation and management, all while providing the superior durability and reliability of SSDs.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSDs translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg Incredibly Fast Performance The RevoDrive family gets its edge by employing a PCIe x4 interface (1GB/s bandwidth as opposed to 3Gb/s of SATA II) and two SandForce-1200 controllers in RAID 0 design to maximize data access and bandwidth. Therefore the RevoDrive SSDs (50GB-80GB) feature up to 540 MB/s read & 450 MB/s write speeds, up to 350 MB/s sustained write speed, and incredible random write up to 70,000 IOPS (4KB Aligned).
  • newegg Bootable The OCZ RevoDrive is powered by the PCI-Express bus and OS bootable allowing for use as the primary boot drive and super-fast system startup. (Motherboard supporting boot over PCI-E is required.)

5 out of 5 eggsOCZ RevoDrive 80GB Solid State Drive

Pros: This PCIE-SSD has performed flawlessly from day 1 and to this day im very very happy with it. It makes my old 2600K system feel new to this day. Not 1 problem if you just take your time with install/setup.

Cons: This particular drive SHOULD have been a 120 from the start!

Other Thoughts: Nibiru, Xylophone, Sampo

Pros: The few days that it worked as a bootable Windows 7 64 bit C drive, it was really fast.

Cons: 99% of ownership time of drive never really worked, and that was tested true on 2 totally different, 100% stable, high end motherboards/systems. 1st was Asus P5E, 2nd was Gigabyte GA X58A UD3R Rev. 2 I did every single thing you can, such as update firmware, unplug all but this drive, and then load OS, tried to reload drivers, switch BIOS options, etc.

Finally 1 of the 2 internal Raid 0 drives failed, and now, it is useless, as it has a 37GB remaining half, of which I don't trust to put any data on, anyway. Also, the whole drive randomly disappears, has constant errors.
SAD THING IS, I had a computer business 2003 to 2005, and I used MANY products from OCZ, and, Toshiba, and never had an issue. Now, the WORST THING is that OCZ/TOSHIBA REFUSES TO REPLACE DRIVE. I EVEN OFFERED TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED, AND THEY SAID, "sorry, we can't help you". I originally paid over $600 for this, and I got maybe a week of use out of it, back in beginning of 2012. I tried to RMA it back then, but, they said to try this and that, and then, I built another whole PC and tried it on that one also, with same issues. Finally set it aside, waiting for new drivers, and firmware, then, updated firmware when possible, same issues, then, finally drive fails, and I have a $600 paper weight.

Other Thoughts: This was/is, (would be, if it was working) a killer concept, especially for motherboards that didn't have SATA3 /600MB/s, or, even if they did, this was another option, if your ports were full. It also uses PCIe, which actually could outperform SATA easily, depending on 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x lanes. Why I originally purchased it. I never have spent that much on a single hard drive before this point, and OCZ / TOSHIBA burned me with how they refused to fix/replace/let me pay to have it fixed. It never worked, but, a few days to a week total, and with constant errors, when it did. I never will buy from them again after such a long winded refusal of warranty coverage.

3 out of 5 eggsWas more of a novelty

Pros: I bought this when PCI-e harddrives were a brand new concept. Besides the entire first day of trial and error with BIOS configurations, when it was finally up and running, it was totally worth the near $300 price tag.

Cons: Solid State Harddrives caught up and have near identical practical speeds. Thus making this technology completely useless. I am giving this a 3 star rating after all of these years of ownership because I have a feeling OCZ always knew this, and never actually cared about developing this product any further. Their drivers, website, knowledge, and support for this item is absolute garbage.

Other Thoughts: When it worked, it really worked. But it's a dead technological avenue. :(

2 out of 5 eggsAnother OCZ Disappointment

Pros: -- Faster than platter-based HDDs

Cons: -- Very poor performance from an SSD
-- Small capacity
-- Very expensive
-- Takes a PCI-E slot

I bought the Revodrive for a friend's LGA2011 super-computer running a Core i7-3930K. After salivating over some AnandTech Revodrive reviews, I was expecting a MUCH better showing from this SSD.

CrystalDiskMark gave a completely different picture -- even my budget Mushkin Chronos Enhanced trounces the Revodrive. While I do not care *as much* about sequential read/writes, the Revodrive only managed about 55 MBps 4kb random writes. Not very good considering the price tag on this drive.

Other Thoughts: I've tried a few performance tweaks to get this thing running closer to spec. However, the CDM results did not improve, even with current 1.37 firmware and a SecureErase to reset the NAND. The lackluster results are below.

CrystalDiskMark - 5-Pass, 1000MB
(All figures in MBps)
Seq. R: 283.2 W: 104.6
512K R: 264.4 W: 105.0
4K R: 20.98 W: 60.04
4KQD32 R: 187.7 W: 87.27

Bottom line is -- if you want performance, just buy 2-3 120GB budget SSDs and put them in RAID 0. You'll get 2x the performance and 4x the capacity for the same price.

3 out of 5 eggsWas amazing while it worked.

Pros: The drive is very quick and worked well as my boot drive.. for a while.

Cons: A few months after getting the drive my computer started to crash. As one of the other reviewers has stated the drive has an internal raid. Like them, I too am having the issue with half the drive being faulty.

Other Thoughts: OCZ has always made good products and im hoping they have the kinks worked out. Ive opened an RMA with them and hope to have this all worked out shortly.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are very sorry for the problem. Our staff will be happy to see that you receive a properly working replacement card. We will be with you shortly, and will work to get you running as quickly as possible. Thank you

Pros: quick

makes your geek friends jealous

Cons: $$$
had to use beta bios to boot on it

Other Thoughts: Lastest ubuntu (11.04) linux doesn't see the drive without the hardware raid. Would have love to bench fakeraid VS software raid (software always faster in my experience)

1 out of 5 eggsNOT COMPATABLE

Pros: None yet ~ it's not compatable with my mobo

Cons: Did I mention that it isn't compatable with my mobo?
Apparently, after trying to find a fix ... I found a LOT of links to people that have discovered that the chipset on this card makes it compete with the onboard drive contollers (ie RAID) ... and in my case the PATA and SATA.
I can see them in my BIOS ... but the system keeps hanging and keeps looping back to the BIOS and/or telling me there is no compatable Hard Drive.

Other Thoughts: Wish I knew it wouldn't work before I bought it since it has a NO REFUND policy mark.
Now what?
I eat a $200 piece of DON'T WORK?

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we want every customer to be fully satisfied with their purchase. Please call our support manager at (408) 733-8400, ext 206, and we will be happy to work with you. Thank you

Pros: This is a really good produst i read the reviews and was worried about its preformance and reliability, however i have had no issues it is amazingly fast it reads as a raid 0 and i dident have to make any modifacations in the bios or the raid it works like a charm windows boots in about 8 sec i would buy this again

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: just make sure if you use it for a boot drive that you get the drivers on the ocz website wile installing windows its easy to do

1 out of 5 eggsFailed twice so far

Pros: It works fine, for a while.

Cons: The first one failed within a week. OCZ would only do a direct replacement, although I wanted a different product. After shipping it back at my expense, I got my replacement. That worked for a couple months, but today I got the same failure. The card has an internal RAID, and half the drive failed (meaning the whole drive fails). I haven't heard back from them yet what they'll do about it - since I'm past 30 days, I'm worried they won't make it right. Even if they do, I've twice gone through the frustration of my primary HD failing... very frustrating from a very expensive SSD.

Other Thoughts: The #1 priority for a hard disk is reliability. This drive isn't reliable.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are very sorry for the difficulties you are having. Our support staff will be back with you shortly, and will work with you to resolve your issues. Thank you
