Based on a cutting-edge new architecture, Vertex 2 Solid State Drives deliver unprecedented performance while maintaining an affordable storage solution for early adopters looking to update their systems with the latest technology. OCZ designed the Vertex 2 to excel in both sequential and random read/write rates to take your PC or notebook productivity to the next level, featuring superb 4KB random writes up to 50,000 IOPS to give a performance edge over the previous generation. Using the latest controller technology, Vertex 2 not only provides a faster, more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Vertex 2 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows7 notebook or desktop upgrade.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSD’s translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg Better Performance Built with MLC NAND flash and the latest generation SandForce SF1200 controller featuring award winning DuraClass Technology, the OCZ Vertex 2 90GB SSD delivers industry-leading SSD reliability, performance, and power efficiency, with maximum read speed up to 285 MB/s and maximum write speed up to 275 MB/s, plus incredible random 4K write performance of 50,000 IOPS.
  • newegg TRIM Support The OCZ Vertex 2 Series SSD’s offer native TRIM support than can be enabled in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.
  • newegg 2.5" to 3.5" Adapter Included The OCZ Vertex 2 Series is specifically designed for notebook computers coming in a 2.5-inch hard drive form factor. In addition, the installation kit includes a 2.5" to 3.5" bracket for matching with 3.5” drive bay to extend the storage of your desktop computer.

1 out of 5 eggsdrive didn't last

Pros: Acceptable speed for an SSD.

Cons: Died less than 1 year after the warranty expired. It gave no warning that anything was wrong. One day it just stopped appearing in the BIOS.

Other Thoughts: Sometimes unplugging everything, then plugging it back in, then doing a BIOS reset would allow the device to be seen for a couple minutes, so I was able to back it up over the course of multiple reboots.

1 out of 5 eggsDont last long

Pros: Fast while they lasted!!

Cons: I bought 3 of these in 2010 and just had one fail a month ago and now another failed.... stay away from these drives they have a short life span!!!

Other Thoughts: I been building computers for along time and never had a mechanical drive fail on me. i thought SSD was supposed to have a longer life span and be more reliable but as it is now i have had 2 ssd's fail on me. Never had problems with OCZ products but now i dont think i will ever buy OCZ again. I always bought OCZ ram also but after this i dont think ill ever use a OCZ product again.

3 out of 5 eggsDied within 3 years

Pros: Relatively cheap at time of purchase. Boots Windows 7 Pro in around 17 seconds. 3 year Warranty.

Cons: Died after 2.5 years.

Other Thoughts: I'm a few days into the RMA process and it appears to be dragging on a little. I don't want to be without a computer for 10-15 business days so I purchased another SSD (from a different manufacturer)

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY THIS

Pros: NONE.

Cons: The manufacter of this product will not replace a bad drive. So I have had a machine down and loosing clusters for about a year. I have reformatted the drive but the DRIVE IS BAD. They will not replace. Communication is impossible and not worth the time to invest to try and fix something that you can't and never will be able to FIX. BAD BAD PRODUCT.

Other Thoughts: Dont cheap out on SSD's do your homework and get the best...when these drives are working well they are awesome. But if they are bad. JUST REPLACE.

2 out of 5 eggsAwesome until it died

Pros: I bought this drive in november 2010. It was fast and worked well.

Cons: Fiability. It stopped working in march 2012. I've fixed it using the support but now it stopped working again. Probably a sleep issue since it the second time it stopped working when booting up from sleep. Firmware on the drive was recent. Will probably do the RMA but I would love another model since I won,t be able to trust this one anymore.

Other Thoughts: Will probably use an Intel on my work machine and use the RMA'd drive for a less important computer that I won't put to sleep such as my media center

Manufacturer Response:

We aplogize for the problem. On many systems we do recommend disabling sleep mode, as this can create problems. Please visit the link below and create a support ticket to arrange for an RMA for a replacement drive. We care about our customers and will be happy to assist you. Thank you

1 out of 5 eggs2nd RMA in less than 1.5 years

Pros: Worked well/fast until they died.

Cons: Bought 2 of these to RAID 0 for Christmas in 2010. One of them died about 2 months ago so I sent it for RMA. I received replacement from OCZ which worked for only a few weeks and the replacement already died. The other drive is still OK (for now) but I've lost confidence in these drives and OCZ. I'm just expecting the one that I haven't RMA'd yet to die any day now.

Other Thoughts: Noticed that these are getting hard to find now and stock levels won't be back up for some time. I'm hoping this is a sign that OCZ is fixing whatever manufacturing flaw is in these before shipping more out to be sold (I can dream right?). This goes to show you, OCZ, stop cutting corners and using low quality parts to cut costs. In the end, it's costing you way more to have to undo your mess in not just money but also customer loyalty and your image as a company. Now I'm worried that my dual Vertex 3s will have the same fate. Was considering a Vertex 4 but now I will definitely be buying Intel due to their good track record.

2 out of 5 eggs1.5yr

Pros: Fast.

Cons: Died. Sleep state/compatibility problem with win 7 SP1. Not good for important data.

Other Thoughts: RMA probably not worth the hassle as I'm sure the replacement will crater after a year or so. Do yourself a favor, use small drives that can easily be imaged and keep your "real" data somewhere else.

Manufacturer Response:

We aplogize for the difficulties. We do recommend that sleep/hibernate mode be disabled in some systems. Please contact us by creating a support ticket at the link below and we will be happy to assist you with an RMA and setup suggestions. We care about our customers and are here to help. Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsTwo of these died within 6 months

Pros: Fast.. when it's not dead.

Cons: First one died within 8-9 months.
Got OCZ to send me another one under warranty.
Second died within 6 months.

Not sure if I should go for a 3rd or go with Intel and never look back.
Reason you shouldn't cheap out, problem is when I bought this it was a relatively new model and the ratings were through the roof.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away...

Pros: Speed

Cons: Reliability

Other Thoughts: I have RMA'ed this OCZ drive 2 times in the past 7 months. First drive gave me about 90 days, second drive about 120 days. RMA process takes too long. First one took over 20 days and the second about 2 weeks. It would be nice if they took a page out of Seagates book and allowed for an advanced shipment RMA without jumping through hoops. If you want advanced shipment from OCZ, you buy the drive from them, they send it to you, then refund your card about 5-7 days after they receive your dead drive. A better option would be to just bill me if I dont return the drive in XX number of days.

Speed wise, these drives are fast. But they are useless if they are just gonna die with no warning. Computer will hang / BSOD frequently leading up to the failure, and one day you will boot to find the computer no longer recognizes the drive.

Stay away.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the difficulties. Please visit the link below and create support ticket to begin the RMA process. Please also visit our support forums for setup suggestions to assist with reliability. For example, some systems require that sleep/hibernate mode be disabled when running an SSD. Thank you
