OCZ Vertex 3 Solid State Drives unleash the performance potential of the SATA 6Gbps interface, leading the speed revolution in this next-generation solution. As the first SSD to feature the latest SandForce controller design, OCZ designed the Vertex 3 to push the limits in both sequential and random read/write rates to blaze past the competition when every MB/s matters. With incredible 4k file writes up to 60,000 IOPS, these latest drives take productivity, gaming, and multimedia applications to the next level to work in perfect symmetry with the latest enthusiast platforms.

Built with the quality, reliability, and durability that lives up to the OCZ name, the Vertex 3 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 companion.

  • newegg Industry-Leading Performance & Endurance Driven by the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2281), the Vertex 3 Series is designed and built to unleash the full potential of the 6Gbps SATA III interface. The Vertex 3 pushes the limits in both sequential and random data transfer rates, significantly improving your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience. In addition, the SSD controller’s integrated enhanced DuraClass Technology is architected to leverage today’s densest MLC NAND Flash memory, delivering best-in-class performance, endurance, security, and power efficiency in a “DRAM-less”, single chip solution.
  • newegg A Superior PC Experience In addition to maximum performance, a Vertex3 upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability. Vertex 3 SSDs work in perfect harmony with next generation platforms and operating systems to deliver the ultimate storage solution.
  • newegg TRIM Support The Vertex 3 Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.
  • newegg 2.5" to 3.5" Adapter Included The Vertex 3 Series features a standard 2.5-inch form factor for compatibility with notebooks and select desktops. A 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch mounting bracket is included with the SSD for compatibility with standard hard drive mounting.

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless

Pros: Speedy and reliable

Cons: Too thick to fit in my netbook (but it's not intended for a netbook anyway).

Other Thoughts: I've had this drive in my desktop setup for about 2 years now, got it for a great price back in 2012, looks like the price hasn't stayed so low. Has all the speed you would expect from an SSD, and I have had absolutely no issues. Was running Win 7 Pro, upgraded to 8.1 Pro without a hitch, boot time is even quicker with 8. With a separate HDD for data, the 120GB size is ideal for the OS and apps.

3 out of 5 eggsNot too Bad

Pros: Fast

Cons: Not Reliable

Other Thoughts: Failed few times as part of raid 0. After one year failed completely. Other drive is still working. Bios can't see it anymore. Customer service wouldn't accept warranty exchange w/o original receipt even though I forwarded them their dated email-answer on rebate application. Congratulations to customer service. Great job!

5 out of 5 eggsFirst SSD Experience

Pros: Fast, easy to install

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Installation was a snap with the enclosed drive bay converter. Using this as my system (boot) drive, and I go from power off to desktop login in about 20 seconds running Windows 7 Professional. No moving parts has another bonus: it puts off less heat than a normal hard drive, so my pc stays cooler!

2 out of 5 eggsBuggy firmware

Pros: Very fast, as you'd expect from an SSD.

Cons: Often crashes and stops being detected entirely by my system. I was told this was a firmware issue, but updating to the latest firmware just changed the way it fails. Now instead of crashing, causing a blue screen and not being detected. it locks up the whole system on faulty reads. In its current state, it locks up my system about twice per day. I'll be getting a different brand SSD soon.

Other Thoughts: This is a really highly rated SSD though multiple people that I know who have used it, have reported the same issues. Is that just bad luck?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Consumer,

Most likely this is a faulty drive or setup issue. The "3" series drives such as your Vertex 3 are stable and reliable when running the latest firmware, version 2.25. There were some issues early on with pre-2.15 firmwares causing unpleasant blue screens on some user's systems but that has long since been corrected. Since 2.15 we have released firmware v2.22 and v2.25 - 2.25 has been available for nearly 2 years.

I recommend you contact our Technical Support. We will assist with the issues you have been experiencing and determine if it can be corrected remotely or if a RMA is necessary.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Best Regards,

OCZ Support

5 out of 5 eggsStill running great

Pros: Runs fast, runs cool, and still going strong.

Cons: None! Wish I could buy another for $79 like I did in 2012.

Other Thoughts: Bought this drive in June of 2012 for $79.99 from NewEgg and installed it in my aging Macbook Pro. The drive brought new life to my MBP and I have used it everyday since without issue.

2 out of 5 eggsWas really fast while it was working

Pros: When I first got this vertex 3 HDD, I was pretty impressed. It was decently fast, and served my purposed.

Cons: Warning, the drive quit on me just yesterday and I am not out of the warranty period. These drives are supposed to last forever, but I was having issue playing games, and then in a matter of hours, it escalated to not being able to boot up.

Other Thoughts: A 120 GB drive is not big enough for a gaming computer. If you are going to play triple A games like battlefield or COD or Arma, I would recommend a 240 GB drive at minimum. After loading windows, and 3 big games like these, I was already maxing out the capacity of this drive.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to read of the issues you have experienced. We will gladly help you troubleshoot the symptoms you are experiencing and can help arrange a quick RMA if necessary. Please contact us using the link below and we will assist however possible.

We apologize for the inconvenience!

Kind Regards,

OCZ Storage Solutions Support
