Built with the quality, reliability, and durability that lives up to the OCZ name, the Vertex 3 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 companion.

Built with the quality, reliability, and durability that lives up to the OCZ name, the Vertex 3 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 companion.

  • newegg Industry-Leading Performance & Endurance Driven by the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2281), the Vertex 3 Series is designed and built to unleash the full potential of the 6Gbps SATA III interface. The Vertex 3 pushes the limits in both sequential and random data transfer rates, significantly improving your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience. In addition, the SSD controller’s integrated enhanced DuraClass Technology is architected to leverage today’s densest MLC NAND Flash memory, delivering best-in-class performance, endurance, security, and power efficiency in a “DRAM-less”, single chip solution.
  • newegg A Superior PC Experience In addition to maximum performance, a Vertex3 upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability. Vertex 3 SSDs work in perfect harmony with next generation platforms and operating systems to deliver the ultimate storage solution.
  • newegg TRIM Support The Vertex 3 Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.
  • newegg 2.5" to 3.5" Adapter Included The Vertex 3 Series features a standard 2.5-inch form factor for compatibility with notebooks and select desktops. A 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch mounting bracket is included with the SSD for compatibility with standard hard drive mounting.

2 out of 5 eggsLast OCZ I purchase

Pros: The drive is blazing fast, and when it works, works beautifully.

Cons: I bought 2 of these from office depot (cheaper), upgrading from some crucial m4's for more space. One for myself, and one for my wife's pc. Both are randomly freezing and crashing. I have not only updated the firmware, but done all the stupid work arounds. I've spent over 8 hours screwing with these drives and after (similar) problems with the Agility 2's I had prior I simply won't buy OCZ products anymore. I'm putting my crucial m4's back in and going back to having computers that run blazingly fast AND work.

Other Thoughts: It's too bad OCZ doesn't seem to care about quality control, they are losing customers left and right it seems from all the other reviews I'm seeing.

5 out of 5 eggsInsanely fast! Cannot be beat!

Pros: This thing is like lightning! Even with apps installed on an HDD, this thing screams!
SSD is the only way to go to break that 5.9 WEI rating in Win7!
More than twice as fast as the 120GB model.
Love the included sticker: My SSD is faster than your HDD.
Newest firmware resolves issues from the negative reviews.

Cons: Although I got mine as a Shell Shocker deal for $289.99, the price is still high. With the new Vertex 4 drives out, maybe this will drop.

Other Thoughts: Read lots of reviews on the Vertex 2 & 3's. All said the same: the SandForce controller is what makes it dominate the others! Only other SSD that compares is the Intel.
Didn't really want an SSD this large, as all I want/have on it is my OS, but since this has twice the NAND chips as the 120GB, it has twice the throughput!
For those that want good performance, but don't want to pay the price of the Vertex 3 series, the Agility 3 series are an excellent alternative! They use the same SandForce 2281 controller, & are only slightly slower on read/write speeds. 500-525 MB/s is still hella fast!!!

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate review

Pros: I purchased this SSD the month it came out in March of 2011; I gave it a bad review, a really bad review, nothing worked. Initially the firmware would not load, the tools did not work, etc. The drive was released too soon. So I set it aside for several months to wait for the version updates on the tools and firmware. I have several SSD's on the different systems I build from Corsair, OCZ, etc. I feel bad about the bad review but it was true at the time. I am happy to say that as of Sept of 2011 the drive has performed flawlessly. I now have it as the system drive with Win 7 64bit Ultimate and other apps on the drive. I paid $540 when it came out so at the current price I think I will buy another for the build I am just starting.

Cons: The only con at this point is that I bought it the week it was released, that is not a smart move with hardware. So I had trouble, as did most of the folks that bought the first month. SSD's in general are now solid tech and don't require a degree in system engineering as they did 18 to 24 months ago. I would not do a new build without an SSD as the system drive.

Other Thoughts: SSD are expensive. If you are going to buy one for a build I suggest you but a 240 gig+. I have several 120's on different systems and they work great but with a 240 gig I can load all my application software on a SSD and some of my more commonly accessed data. Nothing will improve system performance like a SSD. I have gone from AMD 4 cores to 6 core to the new 8150 8 core. I am older than most folks building PC's so I have more money to waste, as such I usually buy all the latest and greatest; nothing will make a bigger difference than a SSD on your system. The SATA III 6 gb MOBO and WD black drives do make a difference but that is still half the speed of a SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good..

Pros: 240Gig of space!! for me thats the minimum I need!! because I have alot of Steam games!

Great price for the speed, this is my first SSD and so far I am very happy with it.

Great warranty, I hope I don't ever have to use it.

This has the same controller used on MANY manufactures like corsair and such.. So I just went with the cheapest one with the same controller and the same advertised speeds.. and at the time I bought my SSD, this one had the greatest price.

MOST of these SSDs you get are pretty much the same.. if this one is unreliable because of the controller.. then many of the other brands will be the same because they are using the same controller alot of the times.. although SOME brands out use their own controller.. or a different controller..

I hope that knowledge will help people buy this SSD.. it kinda helped me buy it because after reading the reviews I was scared to buy this, until i looked at more expansive SSD's that use the same controller as this one cos

Cons: Updating seems kinda out of the way.. which might be a good thing because I am leaving the firmware stock because of that.

Judging from the reviews, iam scared of the quality of this SSD.. so far my windows index score is maxed out in harddrive score!!1!!

this thing came with a 3.5 drive adapter.. i WOULD have put it in the pros.. but for me.. this adapter won't fit in my 3.5 inch bay with a sata and sata power already configured to fit in the bay!! no matter what i tried i couldn't get it to fit!! I think this SSD itself has its power and SATA plug a bit offset from a standard 3.5 bay (using the adapter)... good thing my mini-itx Lian li case has like 4 spots to put 2.5 inch drives in... so i still had plenty of places to put this drive in and not use the pre-configured 3.5 bay with pre-set power and sata to fit the 3.5.

Other Thoughts: Can't update firmware with windows 7 if its the primary drive being used! for example.. i think this means if our running your OS off of the drive, you can't update it while your in windows 7 and windows 7 is running off of the drive in my situation.

Because of this.. I actually just left the firmware stock.
