4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good Kit

Pros: speed -- fastest drive ever at the time of install. I use this for rendering live HD video down to 5 broadcast streams for Flash and windows media broadcast. Extremely fast drive makes for smooth streaming. . .

Cons: occasional CHKDSK. about every 10 - 15 boot cycles, windows 7 will decide the disk is "dirty" and needs to be scanned for errors.

Other Thoughts: I bought this unit when it was MUCH more expensive and paid for the speed. for this price it is a decent deal, but is not as speedy as some of the current SATA III drives.

Pros: 7.6 score in windows 7
super fast drive
easy install after learning correct install procedure
Trouble free for over a year now

Cons: small size
pricey

Other Thoughts: some mb's will auto boot from this but not mine. you must have drivers on media to install windows

1 out of 5 eggsFried system twice

Pros: *solid state through a PCI-e port
newegg support

Cons: failure
fried entire system
half memory
price(at the time was much higher)
was a beta trial at the time and wasnt advertised as such

Other Thoughts: I think it was this hard drive that fried my system twice. I got blue screens of death after installing them and had serious issues with my new system and once I did get it running I also had the half memory thing other reviews mentioned and I was also told it was for caching.

I rma'd my entire system and got all new parts and it happened again. rather than be without a system I got sick of dealing with the issue and a couple moths into non stop repairs I just sold my new system as is. I see the manufacture is more than willing to RMA and so is Newegg(love you guys) but it just wasnt worth it to me at that point and I moved on.

I look forward to dealing with newegg with my next build.

Manufacturer Response:

DarkFlameDF,

I am sorry to hear about the problems with your new system build. The RevoDrive didn't cause catastrophic failure of your entire system and components. The RevoDrive only receives power from the PCIe slot and thus can't return more power than it receives. Damage to an entire system is generally related to a PSU or a system-wide component. I am not sure what you mean by a "beta trial". OCZ doesn't sell beta trial products or invite external beta testers via reseller websites.

It is very possible the RevoDrive isn't compatible with your motherboard, as the motherboard needs to have certain physical and electrical capabilities to run the RevoDrive properly (for example, at least a x4-x16 slot operating at >/= x4 link). This however wouldn't result in destruction of the entire system but the RevoDrive failing to operate.

We will gladly help you with anything we can. If we can be of help just contact us using the link below.

Kind Regards,
OCZ Support

4 out of 5 eggsNo Problems, Fast Reads Writes could be better

Pros: I had no problems setting this up as my boot drive on 2 different motherboards, both Asus. It's been solid for over a year and a half. Still getting 373MB/s reads but only 105MB/s writes which I believe has gone down. I just upgraded the firmware but that did not make a difference.

Cons: Write Speeds could be better. Is this a garbage collection problem?

Other Thoughts: I see a LOT of negative reviews on this card here and elsewhere but I have not had any problems and believe it operates as it should.

1 out of 5 eggsO.verpriced C.an't do Z.ilch

Pros: Amazing box. Amazing. The construction is like no PC component packaging I've seen to date. Kudos to the cardboard makers!

Cons: Device mysteriously dissappears after having been detected and accessed multiple times.

Shows up as 51 GB rather than advertised 110 GB.

Other Thoughts: The explaination is that half of the capacity is reserved for caching; so, there really is a total of 110 GB memory on the device - it just isn't available for storage. This seems like a shifty way to advertise. If I need 80 GB of space and purchase a 110 GB device, I don't expect to find out that there is really only 51 GB available!

I have spent several days toilng with this device:

First, I put it in the new MSI 990 FX MOBO; the BIOS for the card appears on the screen at boot but it prooved to be completely unavailable for installing an OS to (and yes I downloaded the drivers, checked BIOS, etc., etc.).

I then decided to try it as a secondary drive (to maybe install a few games to and see how they launched). Upon trying to copy files from HDD to this SSD, the SSD completely dissappeared from the system. This happened several times (after each occurance I was able to make the drive appear in Windows again by powering down the computer, discharging the CAPS and rebooting).

Next, I decided to try installing it to the MSI K9N SLI board in another PC I have available. For a moment, it looked like a success! The drive appeared in the mainboard's BIOS as a boot device without any manual configuration. I loaded the Win7 install disc and was able to start an installation to the drive (after loading the respective driver, of course). It worked! Whoo-hoo!

To no fault of the device I ran into an issue when I chose not to put the product key in during Win7 setup. Oddly, when I put the key in via the system settings of Windows I received an error message that the key is for upgrades only; despite it being a license for a clean install. That said, I decided I would try to reinstall Windows and this time, enter the key during setup...Again, I was able to initiate setup, except now, every time it gets to the "Expanding Files" portion it hangs on 0% and the system freezes. When I reboot the machine, the SSD drive is no longer listed in the BIOS until I power it down and discharge the CAPS.

This device is not good tech. It does not deliver the capacity which is advertised, it difficulty to work with, and it is not reliable.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I am sorry that you have had issues, but this drive is not a caching drive, you should have full capacity. The drive needs to be replaced if you do not have full capacity. Create an RMA ticket at the link below.

1 out of 5 eggsBAD!

Pros: worked amazing for about a month

Cons: after one month windows gave BSOD it disappeared from the bios every other boot, wouldnt boot into windows when it did show up, and then finally it just disappeared all together and wouldnt show up at all anymore.

Other Thoughts: $100 paper weight, do NOT buy unless you want to replace it once a month.

Manufacturer Response:

We aplogize for the problem. Please visit our support page at the link below and create a support ticket to arrange for an RMA. We will also be happy to make setup suggestions to insure that your drive operates reliably well into the future. We care about our customers and are here to help.

1 out of 5 eggsSame speeds as my old patriot sata 2 ssd, like 90-130 mbs

Pros: Saves sata ports, braging rights. That's it

Cons: I didn't mind the usual finding drivErs online to install windows( thank my higher power
I got laptop:). I firmware updated this thing and have been so upset. Hdd tune gives me same speeds write and seek as my 7200 1tb baracudda drive. Now with less than 10 hrs on it it died. I tried at my shop( I work at geek squad) and its toast. I feel taken advantage of

Other Thoughts: Waste of ur money. I make 12$ a hour working it helpdesk. I been saving for m dream machine. This drive was 200$ lastest bout a dollar a minute.

FYI firmware fully updated

1 out of 5 eggsWas awesome

Pros: Awesome packaging- super fast for 5 minutes before it freezes

Cons: Freezes every 5 minutes. I have been trusting OCZ products for years and this is the first piece that I have had that was essentially no good. I have had some RAM go out but that was only after 2 years of good solid OCing. I started the RMA process and this is my first time so I am a little scared and worried. I hope that they fix my problem

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: Speed was great... while it worked.

Cons: Went through three separate units. Each one stopped working. SSD #1 failed after three weeks. SSD#2 would never load Windows. SSD#3 failed after 4 weeks. Each time one of the raids failed, ruining the drive. I obviously won't be getting another and I encourage buyers to avoid placing important data on these drives until they have operated successfully for at least two months. Otherwise, plan to lose it all in the inevitable crash.

Other Thoughts: Newegg has been very helpful and understanding through this series of failures. Thanks to Newegg I have my money back and will continue to shop here... just not for this SSD.

2 out of 5 eggsNot a good start

Pros: The box it came in was well made, good for sending back via RMA

Cons: Hard locked each of the 3 times I tried to install Win 7 Home Prem 64-bit - on a listed compatible board (latest BIOS) with the necessary settings done.
On-board controller failed to load before BIOS at least twice as its supposed to do.
Process for updating firmware is very unfriendly.
Purchased in July of 2011, yet board manuf date on PCB for unit received was from May of 2010 and firmware from 2 months earlier than that. Thread found on board indicated some early production models (pre Aug, 2010 had some manufacturing issues)

Other Thoughts: This should still be considered experimental tech at best. You are paying top dollar for an unrefined owner experience. If you must go SSD then stick to the SATA ones.
*Note* I also picked up 2 Vertex 3 drives which are thus far working quite well in a RAID-O setup, so not down on OCZ - just this product.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry for the difficulties. Any issues that may have been present in early production units were corrected on existing stock. Please visit the link below and create a support ticket to get in touch with our support staff. We will be happy to assist in any way possible and set you up with an RMA for a warranty replacement drive if required. Thank you
