5 out of 5 eggsFix For Buzz Sound

Pros: it sounds great , Increased my music and game 360 sounds all around Skeptic at first but not no more! :)

Cons: They could have done somewhat better mabe applications or instructions or auto launch internet driver for latest update other than that makes it more difficult to search for the drivers and also buzzing sound (background) but with a fix in (other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: (Fix Buzzing Sound) Control Panel / Sound / Playback / Asus Xonar Dx Auido (default) right click on this go to prop / advanced and make it the 24bit 19200mhz . Should Fix Buzzing Sound Thank You Asus once again knowledge and sound is important to some people you made this happen.

3 out of 5 eggsOCZ RevoDrive more like RetroDrive!

Pros: This is a PCIe SSD drive and should be considerably faster then a traditional SATA SSD, even faster then the 6GB/s newer SATA SSD's! Supports RAID 0, 1, 5, however it *looks* similar to a SCSI drive in Windows in so far as there is no native support in Windows XP, Vista or Win7 without first loading a HD driver from OCZ. When doing a "clean" install of Windows it is necessary to first have the driver on another CD or flash drive so the OS install will see the drive! After Windows is installed, you can boot directly to the RevoDrive providing your computer's BIOS has the provision for booting to a SCSi drive.

Cons: Where to begin! According to OCZ, this drive is obsolete and hasn't been produced for three years! There is no direct support for Windows 8, although the Windows 7 drivers appear to work, at least they did for the week I has it. My biggest complaint is that I couldn't figure out *any* way to clone this drive from an existing Windows 8 system, actually from an OCZ Vertex 4 SATA SSD. This is fundamentally due to the nature of the driver, which must be loaded manually during install, much like we used to do with SCSI drives "back in the day". I can't deal with a drive that can only be used as a secondary drive, or can be used as a system drive only if you do a clean Windows install, not my cup of tea!

Other Thoughts: I suppose the problem with not being able to clone this drive from another SSD that has a running Windows system on it is more to blame with the backup software I use, Acronis True Image Home, rather then with the RevoDrive itself. Unfortunately this is the backup software my business uses, and it comes with standalone bootable versions as well as a program that runs directly on Windows. The standalone version has no way to load a separate HD driver in it, and for some reason the Windows Version of Acronis TIH starts the clone process, but fails within 15 seconds. Evidently Acronis TIH has issues with the entire RevoDrive line including the newer RevoDrive 3 X2.

5 out of 5 eggsOCZ RevoDrive PCI-E 230GB

Pros: I love this drive. It is noticeably faster than the old HDD that I was using. The instructions for installation were simple and accurate to the T. It comes setup for RAID 0, which how I understand it so far... if you're saving 2gb of info the card it will save 1gb to one & 1gb to the other. (drive is basically 2 drives on one card). I am happy happy happy.

Cons: None so far, and i don't foresee any.

5 out of 5 eggsAfter 5 Years, Still 8.0 Windows Experience

Pros: Scored 7.9 on the old Windows Experience, scores 8.0 on the new Windows 8 Experience. No other drive setup can come close to this performance.

Cons: The MLC architecture sometimes causes data to need to be moved to a new space on the storage chipsets. This is common to ALL SSDs, not just the Revo.

Other Thoughts: People who have never used an Adaptec or other fine brand of storage interface, or who haven't used the RAID capabilities of their computer will find the installation a very new experience.

Burn the installation files to a thumb drive BEFORE you install the Revo. Then run Windows Repair and LOAD THE DRIVERS for the Revo. This isn't rocket science, children. This is the exact same process that we all had to use in the days when we had SCSI Drives on our servers. Welcome to the big leagues.

When in doubt, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. OCZ gives complete and wonderful instructions on this device. If you follow the instructions, there will be NO problem. I have used my Revo on three different motherboards since I bought it (right here on newegg): A XFX NVidia 780i, an Asus Sabertooth X58, and my current computer which has an EVGA FTW Z77. ALL OF THESE COMPUTERS RAN DUAL SLI VIDEO CARDS.

1 out of 5 eggsInstallation Process Terrible

Pros: It seemed fast as two logical drives.

Cons: After four days of screwing with this thing, it's time to send it back. It looks like Newegg will only give me a credit not a refund on this product. Maybe I'll use it to buy a real SSD. While I liked the idea of this drive, built in controller, etc, the reality was terrible. After a 10 minute pause during post, the computer would eventually allow me to select the drive but would never boot. I was able to use it as a logical drive in windows 7 by removing the raid configuration, but could never get it to boot. After reading the forums (which I'd suggest to anyone before buying one of these), I upgraded the bios. I downgraded the bios. I disabled my onboard controller, I reconfigured my onboard controller, I enabled my onboard controller, I disconnected my other drives, I changed pci slots. I moved my video card to a different slot. The end result? It doesn't work in my Dell T3600.

Other Thoughts: RMA coming soon. Some hardware compatibility information would have been nice before purchase as would instructions larger than a business card in the box.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear dz,

We are sorry to read you have found the RevoDrive incompatible with your Dell T3600. While PCIe SSD work on a wide range of systems, certain configurations or BIOS implementations result in unfortuate experiences like this. OCZ does maintain a PCIe SSD Tested Motherboard Guide which is publicly available on our website for any future reference. Our PCIe SSD may work great on models not listed but those on the list have been thoroughly tested and confirmed as compatible.

If we can assist you with this or if you would like to troubleshoot with us directly, don't hesitate to contact our Tech Support or Support Forum for further assistance.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience!

Kind Regards,
OCZ Support

5 out of 5 eggsFast Hard drive on a card win win

Pros: Fast reliable, good ammount of storage for what you are paying. Getting this card is like buying 2 120ssd dives and a RAID card.

Cons: Needed to load a driver to install the of, a little bit of a pain but not too much. You'll need another computer to download the driver to a usb key and install it there.

Other Thoughts: I'm very happy with this investment. Just beware it's PCIe 4X not 1X

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work when you have an SLI installed, cannot RMA

Pros: Not able to see any

Cons: --Doesn't work with SLI (doesn't boot up at all) - since the bus switches to 2x8 instead of having a 1x16
--For some reason Newegg cannot RMA it. Wonderful. What am I going to do now?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Consumer,

Please contact our Support directly. Certain configurations will prevent the Revodrive from working properly due to chipset limitations. This is possibly the situation here - if you have 3+ pcie slots but two graphics cards occupying at x8 x8, that will only leave the 3rd pcie slot operating at x1. Of course this depends on the chipset in question which we will investigate when you contact us with more details.

We look forward to helping!

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to mine from a few months ago

Pros: Still running strong. Ran a PassMark test and got 455.5 for the sequential read test, but only 167.9 for the sequential write test.

Cons: You will have to download drivers and put them on a flash drive if you intend to install Windows onto the drive. During setup, you'll have to load those drivers to get it recognized. This took me some time to figure out when I first got the drive.

Other Thoughts: 66 GB free of 214. Running with:
3570K at 4.5 GHz
Radeon HD 6770
2x4GB 2000 MHz RAM (could run at 2400, but there's a bit of instability with this motherboard. Games crash after an hour with 2200)

You would probably be better off getting a 240 or 256 GB SATA III. Preferably a Samsung 830, Crucial M4, or Kingston HyperX.

2 out of 5 eggsSuper fast but not reliable

Pros: This drive was unbelievably fast while it worked. It scored the highest rating in windows and everything was very snappy.

Cons: I bought my first one 3 months ago and it died in a few days, after paying to have a replacement shipped from newegg that one died after 2 months. Now I have to pay to ship it again to the manufacturer to get my third one. I'm not too confident in this drives quality. Shipping them back for new ones really adds a lot to the price of ownership.

Other Thoughts: It's a shame because the performance of this thing is unbelievable. I'm using my SATA drive to get by now and it feels like half the machine that it was.

Manufacturer Response:

We sincerely aplogize for the difficulties. Please visit the link below and create a support ticket to arrange for an RMA. Please also visit our support forums at the link below and we will be happy to recommend proper drive and system setup procedures to insure that your new drive operates reliably. We are confident that we can get you up and running relaibly. We care about our customers and are here to help. Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsFirst one died in a day but second works well so far.

Pros: Highest rating in windows for speed.
Windows 7 is noticeably faster.

Cons: After much troubleshooting learned that on my gigabyte board that it would only work in the PCIe X16 slot, so there goes using an SLI in the future. It would see the raid card but not the actual storage in the other slots.
