OCZ Agility 3 SATA III Solid State Drives are designed and built to provide an exceptional balance of performance and value. The Agility 3 Series implements the cutting-edge SATA 6Gbps interface to deliver excellent sequential and random data transfer rates, significantly improving your computing experience over hard drives.

In addition to enhanced performance, an Agility 3 upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability. Unique and innovative, Agility 3 SSDs deliver a one-of-a-kind storage solution.

  • newegg Engineered for Cost-effective performance The OCZ Agility 3 SATA III Solid State Drives are designed and built for cost-effective performance. By leveraging the latest SATA 6Gbps interface and the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2281), the Agility 3 pushes the limits in both sequential and random data transfer rates with up to 525MB/s read plus incredible 4KB random write performance of 50,000 IOPS. This significantly improves your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience. It is backwards compatible with SATA II / 3Gbps, and is also compliant with ATA/ATAPI-8 Standard Native Command Queuing (NCQ). (Max performance achieved using Native SATA 6Gbps chipset. Rated speeds may vary slightly depending on the benchmark used, drivers, windows version, bios version and file size.)
  • newegg A Superior PC Experience In addition to enhanced performance, an Agility 3 upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability.
  • newegg TRIM Support The OCZ Agility 3 offers native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.
  • newegg S.M.A.R.T. Technology The OCZ Agility 3 adopts Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) which enables the PC to predict the future failure of hard disk drives. Through the SMART system, hard disk drives incorporate a suite of advanced diagnostics that monitor the internal operations of a drive and provide an early warning for many types of potential problems. When a potential problem is detected, the hard drive can be repaired or replaced before any data is lost or damaged.
  • newegg ECC Recovery Designed with the file verification and repair tool- ECC Recovery, OCZ Agility 3 provides up to 55 bits correctable per 512-byte sector (BCH), protecting your important files and sensitive data against digital corruption by using Reed-Solomon codes.

3 out of 5 eggsNot all it is supposed to be.

Pros: It works.

Cons: Not any faster than my Crucial RealSSD 60GB drive this was replacing. Pretty sad really.
Might as well forget any rebates, OCZ is a scam.

Other Thoughts: This is faster in writing large files, but 99% of the time you are reading files, not writing them. In that case my old Crucial drive was just as fast. I could have saved the money and bought a faster drive later.

Manufacturer Response:

Write speeds are were solid state drives are improving, while read speeds have always been fast. We are sorry that your expectations were not met. 5 out of 5 eggs3 months with no issues

Pros: Fast. Even when running in SATA I/II speeds, maxed out on throughput.

Cons: A little strange when drive has to be encrypted. But this is most likely due to the encryption software and not the SSD itself.

Other Thoughts: So I use this for work in my T61 (which supports SATA I unless you upgrade the BIOS). Replaced my 160GB 7200rpm platter with this. Even though I am required to have encryption for work, this thing still outperforms the platter drive without encryption.

The only weird thing I noticed is that on occasion (say once a week or two) my machine will lock up for about 30 secs. I can't do anything for this time, but about 30 secs later it's back to normal. For work we have to have tons of bloatware and the ecryption installed so I'm not blaming the drive for this. I ran the drive for about a month without encryption and it would max out the SATA I speed on my laptop and boot XP SP3 in about 30 secs. After encryption my performance was brought down about 50%, but still MUCH better than standard platter HDD.

5 out of 5 eggs3rd one, very happy!

Pros: Fast, came with firmware 2.15 (upgraded to 2.22 since), price after rebate and coupon ($82), EASY rebate (cannot more dumb!), Green, SATA III (but gives very good SATA II performance)

Cons: none, none, none (I have three!). Actually I don't like the wrapping it comes with. The first I got was within a box like the Vertex 3, now you just have a thick, hard to open plastic wrap, not as sexy!

Other Thoughts: This is my 3rd Agility 3 and so far no issues, they all work flawlessly either on my AMD or Intel boards. OCZ has the easiest and fastest rebate system ever. Just sent mine last week got notification this week and everything is being processed. Also sometimes you can select to get a check rather than a card, which is pretty neat when it happens. I never missed one, knock on wood. Firmware 2.22 seems to solve issues for some, I didn't have issues on 2.15 anyways but I like to be current in updates. As I have a docking station on my CM690 II, I just have to plug the SSD there and run the Windows utility to flash. Easy as 1,2,3. I also have a Vertex 2 and 3 among Crucial M4 and Sandisk SSD, no issues there. Don't be fooled by posters who don't know what they are doing, this drive is amazing for the price/performance point. Just buy it! Remember to treat this like a memory stick, NOT a hard drive, they are VERY sensitive to static shocks!!!

5 out of 5 eggsBlazing

Pros: Price/Size/Speed Ratio.

Picked this up for $80 AR and consider it a steal. Windows boots almost instantaneously.

Cons: Setup process; but this was due in part to my motherboard and some issues getting my HDD to boot in Ahci. With persistent googling and patience I was able to get the SSD up and running.

Other Thoughts: Be prepared to troubleshoot.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: ssd

Cons: ssd

Other Thoughts: I purchased in 05/11 and had to rma about 5 months later. The BSODs were less frequent after RMA, but did continue. I recently replaced my aging PSU (which was ironically an OCZ PSU) and haven't had any BSODs since. In conclusion, I suspect that these drives require very stable power - more than a typical or aging psu might be able to maintain. GL and may the SandForce be with you.

3 out of 5 eggsSeems solid - mail in rebate system horrific

Pros: Drive works as advertised - first SSD and it was a nice upgrade to my 2009 Asus notebook. Enough room for O/S, MS Office, etc...Hopefully I won't experience problems like a few reviewers...

Cons: As other reviewers have mentioned, their mail in rebate is just horrific. I've tried reasoning, emailing back and forth, and the only logical conclusion I can come up with is that Newegg or any other reseller needs to cut off OCZ's rebates. If you see a "after rebates" price, just IGNORE that price. Seriously, run away from their MiRs. OCZ, I hope you realize you're MiR program is deceptive flat out wrong to many customers.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazingly Fast

Pros: Already had the latest firmware, installed very easy, provides very fast speeds. Just don't forget to enable AHCI and make sure you're running the latest firmware on your BIOS. I bought two and went RAID 0 and achieved read and write of 919MB/s and 1.01GB/s respectively according to ATTO. Not bad for a couple of hundred bucks altogether after rebate.

Cons: None really. People might want to read up on potential issues with SSDs if they want to avoid negative experiences. Enable AHCI before installing Windows is probably the biggest one. Outside of that there's not too much to be negative about. I guess price/MB is still an issue but it's getting better. Like I said above I did 240GB in RAID 0 for a couple hundred dollars after rebate. That's actually not a bad price.

Other Thoughts: I used to be a pure Intel SSD guy but really after trying these drives I see the benefit of being platform agnostic. OCZ has made a very competitive drive for the price with their Agility 3 drives. Not the fastest but certainly nothing to sneeze at. I'm glad I went RAID because with "the cloud" becoming so prevalent I'm not too worried about them crashing as all my sensitive data is on my standard platters/the cloud. If you get a chance and can do it raid these bad boys, you won't regret it.
