TRIM Support The Vertex 3 Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

Cons: The low quality plastic pins to clamp it in place broke upon first attempt at installation with very little force. Other Thoughts: Since the clip broke right away I have no clue how well this works. Manufacturer Response: Dear Anonymous, I am unsure I understand the issue you have had. The Vertex 3 has no moving plastic pins that "clamp", unless you are referring to the SATA or power connector on the drive. Pros: Nice fast drive Cons: Drive failed after one month. It developed bad sectors and drops out of the BIOS at random. I can't boot it and it won't stay up long enough to recover the data. Other Thoughts: I have been on hold with OCZ for 20 minutes and nobody is picking up. Figured I would take the time to add a review. Stay away from this thing. My RMA request has been submitted. Comes with mount for Desktop use Cons: After installing OS, only 20gb left... Filled that up after a week. Other Thoughts: Buy this as a secondary drive, or something other than the OS drive. Cons: After less than a month of use, it developed so many bad sectors that it won't boot. I am going to attempt to recover data off of this, but I don't have high hopes. Other Thoughts: I have eight Vertex and Vertex II drives in a RAID 5. Each of those drives have a raw capacity of 59.626 GB. However, the raw capacity of a Vertex III drive is 55.9 GB (4GB less), which means that it can't be used as a replacement drive in my RAID. How OCZ came to the conclusion that 56 GB is the same as 60 GB is beyond my comprehension. Finally, newegg's replacement-only policy on SSD units means that I now own an $84 paperweight, which makes me a very unhappy customer. Manufacturer Response: Hello Greystork, What you are seeing is completely normal. Consumers may see a discrepancy between reported capacity and actual capacity; the storage industry standard is to display capacity in decimal. However, the operating system usually calculates capacity in binary format, causing traditional HDD and SSD to show a lower capacity in Windows. A drive will show a different capacity once formatted in Windows, typically (actual capacity x .93 = Windows formatted and reported capacity). As for RAID usage, a VTX3-25SAT3-60G will match capacity of another VTX3-25SAT3-60G. A capacity variation between RAIDed drives would indicate a model mismatch. I first had it in an enclosure with USB 3.0, and I was able to load a large game of mine a full 2 minutes faster then I could from the main drive with Windows. I now plan on using this as my boot drive in a new computer. Cons: None Other Thoughts: $/GB ratio is getting better. TurboAAA 2/14/2013 7:19:52 AM Tech Level: 5/5 Ownership: 3/5 Verified Owner	Rating: 4/5Not bad in a netbok Pros: I ordered this SSD to replace the failing drive in a netbook belonging to one of my customers. The good news is that Acer recovery discs will restore to a HDD that is smaller than the original (HP discs have a problem). While I was at it I also upgraded the RAM from 1GB DDR3 to 2GB DDR3. The drive came with the latest firmware already installed. I scanned for bad blocks before and after installation and found none. SSD Life free reported with current usage another 9 years of life. Of course this will probably drop after my customer starts using it. The system is an Acer Aspire One D255E with 2GB DDR3 and a super slow Atom N455 at 1.66GHZ w/512KB of cache. Using HDTune 2.55 I received: • Average Transfer Rate – 79.2MBs • Access Time – 0.6ms Booting and shutting down: • Boot – 35 seconds to desktop, 45 seconds till all startup programs load (ie MSE) • Shutdown – 12 Seconds Cons: You cannot update the firmware if the drive is a running system disk (ie while running Windows off of it) and they say you will probably lose your information. My Crucial SSD can be updated without losing information, why can’t these others? Thankfully the drive came shipped with the latest firmware. Other Thoughts: This is my second OCZ SSD, I am happy with the reliability. Manufacturer Response: Hello TurboAAA, We are glad to hear you are generally happy with your Vertex 3! The last few firmware updates for the Vertex 3 have not been data destructive. We do always recommend you have a data backup available before any flashing procedure but that is just reasonable advice applicable to any storage device update. We do also have an option for updating firmware on a "3" series drive when it is running as a system disk: The OCZ Bootable Toolbox. The Bootable Toolbox is capable of updating firmware on most drives and operates outside the normal OS environment. It only takes a couple minutes to burn to a CD/DVD or create a bootable USB drive and will work great for any future updates to your Vertex 3! Thank you for your purchase!
