1 out of 5 eggsDied

There is a reason why OCZ has went down

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this at all cost

Pros: Well it's an ssd, it's very fast and served me well as an OS drive for about 2 years.

That about sums up the pros.

Cons: Now i'm writing this review because it has now been the third OCZ Vertex2 60Gb SSD that has died on me, each failing completely and becoming undetectable by the bios, or any CD or USB based Operating systm i loaded into memory, after a little less then a year of casual use with minimal write and erase cycles as a windows 7 drive I even did the firmware update OCZ customer support suggested to me but to no better outcome, failure still occured after a few months.

This will now have been my THIRD RMA with OCZ for this particular type of drive and i can frankly say this time i will be demanding them to replace it with a newer generation, because the Vertex 2 is clearly prone to sudden and very frequent failures.

So, fellow customers, i strongly recommend you either buy an other type of ocz drive or just go with an other company and save yourselves the frustration.

Other Thoughts: THere are plenty of other drives out there you can get for slightly more, or possibly roughly the same price that will last you much longer

Manufacturer Response:

We sincerely apologize for the issues. Please visit the link below and create a support ticket. Mention that the OCZ Customer Service Rep at Newegg sent you to have your problem resolved. We care about our customers and will do what it takes to see that you are satisfied with your purchase. Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsBad SSD

Pros: Fast when it worked.

Cons: When I first saw the negative comments I thought to myself, "Well maybe they just got a bad drive, I surely wont be so unlucky." Well I was. This piece of junk worked OK for a few months until it started to randomly lose data. I had constant errors on programs as small as notepad and as big as the actual windows 7 log in screen. Often it would mess up IE, Firefox, Thunderbird and other programs. My sound drivers would sometimes die, leaving me in silence.

Other Thoughts: These problems could be fixed with a format, and format I did. Over and over and over again. I must have formatted once a week. It got so bad that I didn't even take my Windows 7 disk out of the drive. Save your money, go buy another SSD and hopefully this one will get pulled off the market and tossed into the garbage.

1 out of 5 eggsWorks for about 2 weeks.

Pros: Low price. Well known manufacturer.

Cons: I bought two of these drives and after about a week of them being installed they would do an fsck every time the system would start up. I have had these in two different setups and both do the exact same thing. I have tried both Linux and Windows 7 64bit on them and they crashed every time. Even tried just using them as storage and even then they would crash and make the data on the drive inaccessible.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this drive to anyone. They are one of the worst investments I have ever made. If you are looking for a SSD I would look elsewhere.

5 out of 5 eggsBought it for $50!!

Pros: I bought it for $50 almost a year ago, but SSDs, flash drives, and RAM are a lot cheaper now anyway. I was aware of the bad reviews but updated the firmware before anything else, installed Windows 7 64 bit, and never had any problems.

Cons: 60GB was *just* enough for Windows 7 and all my apps but I have a 64GB flash drive to store all my files etc. Be aware that after formatting it's actually about 55GB.

Other Thoughts: The typical Windows sluggishness was a freaking pain and I never bother with defraging or CCleaner or even simply schedule them in Windows so I bought an SSD as a quick solution. I was aware of the bad reviews and that this is a pretty low end SSD (my Acer is just as cheap) but bought it anyway, updated the firmware, and installed Windows 7. iTunes opened in SECONDS!!! So did everything else and booting was under 30 seconds and shutdown under 6. I'm very happy that even the crappiest SSD can make a huge difference over a 5400 rpm HDD.

2 out of 5 eggsDo not buy

Pros: Fast as any other SSD. Cheap

Cons: Odd behavior throughout the first few months. Sometimes OS would not boot. Stopped working after about 10 months. Lost all data.

Other Thoughts: Should have payed closer attention to ratings/reviews.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdated latest firmware bsod windows 7

Pros: fast when in use for only games or applications

Cons: fails every load of windows I have done even after so called firmware update fix to make windows work.

Other Thoughts: Please tell me why we should have update firmware to make it work with most commonly used OS in the world.
I have purchased WD regular drives for almost 20 years.
My experience with SSD has been at least 3 years and so far the only stable SSD drives i have been happy with are intel and corsair no bsod at all. Granted the drives report fast speeds however crash so much running windows not worth it.Weird is they work with apps and games without a hitch. I have updated firmware and still no success.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute and complete garbage

Pros: none.

Cons: Unreliable.
Stuck with 4 worthless drives.

Other Thoughts: This drive is the worst type of product in that it works sometimes and other times it doesn't. I found that after I took these drives out of my system, it became much more reliable, and the speed increase wasn't that good. OCZ got me for $240 because I bought 4, but they won't get another dime of mine or any of my customers money. I can't believe how much time I have wasted trying to get this garbage to work.

Seriously these drives are so bad we should do a class action against ocz

1 out of 5 eggsStill Trash

Pros: Troublesome enough to bring me back to write another review

Cons: OCZ Asked that I go to their forums to get help with troubleshooting this drive.
Please note I worked with this drive for over 6 months before I posted my last review. I've been to their forums. I've made every possible BIOS, driver, and firmware change imaginable. If this drive will be recognized at all in BIOS, it's a trick, it won't be there long. This drive still BSODs Windows 7, even when I just plug it in as a slave. It's like magic, bad magic.

Other Thoughts: One of the few times I got this drive to be stable longer than ten minutes I formatted it in Windows, you know just because. It took about an hour and a half. 60 gigs. Hour and a half. Did I mention that was a "Quick Format" and not low level?
But since OCZ did respond to me I felt like I owed this drive some respect. So, instead of burning it, I've promoted it to paperweight.

1 out of 5 eggsTrash

Pros: It has SATA plug on the back

Cons: I bought this drive as my first SSD. Going in my first build in over a year. I was pumped. Until I plugged it in. I have never in my life had such a pathetic product. Honestly I think a happy meal toy could churn out a better success rate than this thing.

I have yet to be able to get this drive to mount by itself. I haven't taken the time to take it apart, but I think I know how they made this drive. They must have daisy chained some high capacity SD cards together inside the box and gave them an SATA plug. Oh, and did I mention, they are class 1?

As a matter of fact, if someone offered me one for free, I'd stomp on it. I'll never buy OCZ again.

Other Thoughts: This drive loves to crash when you do get it to work. I installed Windows 7 on it 6 times before going back to my 5 year old 300 gig slow as molasses HHD(which is better).

I tried to see if I would have better luck running it as a slave, installed adobe creative suite on it. Failed before I could deauthorize, there went the license.

Everything about this drive is bad.
