OCZ Nocti mSATA SSDs are the ideal upgrade for the latest notebooks and desktop systems with limited storage space. Unlike a standard drive, OCZ Nocti mSATA SSDs are smaller with no outer casing, making them a cost-effective solid state storage solution. Perfect for creating a dual-boot laptop or desktop system where all your storage slots are filled, OCZ mSATA SSDs allow for increased capacities, high speeds, and low power consumption in a small form factor. Based on the high-performance SandForce processors, Nocti mSATA Series is the ideal upgrade for enthusiast and professional mobile workstations and tablets.

  • newegg Lightweight for On-the-Go Computing The mSATA OCZ Nocti Series enables a flexible, scalable and accelerated storage solution in a form factor that is up to 8 times smaller than a 2.5 hard-disk drive, and weighs 10 times less. Supporting SATA signals over a PCI Express (PCIe) mini-connector, the OCZ Nocti Series provides compact storage acceleration for single-drive systems like netbooks, tablets and other hand-held devices.
  • newegg High Performance & Durable Dual-Drive Option Driven by the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2141/2181), the Nocti Series delivers up to 280MB/s read and 12,500 IOPS of 4KB random write performance (30GB model), significantly improving your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience. The small footprint also augments hard-disk drive performance in dual-drive systems, such as all-in-ones, notebooks and small-form-factor (SFF) desktops. The mSATA form factor connects easily to an existing mSATA port on a PC enabling the SSD to perform as a boot drive, quick access to frequently-used applications or storage. In addition, the SSD controller’s integrated enhanced DuraClass Technology is architected to leverage today’s densest MLC NAND Flash memory, delivering best-in-class performance, endurance, security, and power efficiency in a “DRAM-less”, single chip solution.
  • newegg A Superior PC Experience In addition to maximum performance, a Nocti upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability. Nocti SSDs work in perfect harmony with next generation platforms and operating systems to deliver the ultimate storage solution.
  • newegg TRIM Support The Nocti Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

5 out of 5 eggsEEE 901

Pros: Thanks NotDeadYet. I too have an EEE 901 and was dreaming the same dream. Thanks for the heads up. For systems that have this design, I see great potential. Recently tested an Intel SSD (from Newegg) in a socket 478 systemboard and it was amazingly fast, but still just a 478. The test did prove that that particular older board could still be repurposed.

Cons: Does not fit an Asus EEE 901

4 out of 5 eggsMistaken Mpata slot for a Msata slot

Pros: Speedy little drive, impressed with the price to performance ratio. Boot time is fast and my OS is snappy

Cons: 30Gb didn't cut it for me. i thought I could get Windows 7 and all my common programs and maybe one game on this little guy, but to my dismay I have to dump Office and and any games onto my storage drive.

Other Thoughts: Like the guy above, I mistook my mpata slot for a msata (it was for an older gaming laptop, ocz fl92) It sat around until I got a msata to sata I/II converter, then threw it in my g73jh.
I will buy a 128GB version of this drive once the price comes down a little more... Sooner if I can get a coupon for one ;-)

3 out of 5 eggsWatch out!

Pros: So, while I am an IT professional, I don't deal with mSATA much. The only thing I use it in is my EEE 901, which I bought right after they came out (so it's been a while). Well, I thought I could extend the life of the 901 a bit with a new SSD. The specs are great! Well, sort of. I missed one.

Cons: The width of this card is 50mm, whereas most others are close to 5.88mm. Only 0.8 MM difference, probably just different card widths, no problem. YES PROBLEM!! You see, a 50.88 wide card will fit into a mSATA slot but a 50mm fits a mPCI-e slot. Go figure. Well, I never have run out of stupid, so when the holes didn't line up I decided that it would be best just to ream them out so they DID fit. Yeah. Didn't work out. Don't know if the card was DOA or if I killed it, but one thing I know for sure, it doesn't work anymore and I can't return it.

Other Thoughts: Now, I hate to give this SSD a bad rating because I didn't actually get to use it. But I also hate to give it a good rating because I'm spiteful and really disappointed. So I'm shooting for middle of the road. Oh, I also tried it in an mPCI-e slot, it fit real nice, but still didn't work. However that was after I reamed out the holes, so it may have already been dead.

Anyhoo, I decided to write this review mostly for those out there who, like me, are unaware of the elusive specs for every stinking piece of hardware on the planet. Hopefully my experience will help avoid someone else making my mistake. I figure I've paid for my education, might as well share so others don't have to.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the modification you attempted. We appreciate you posting this information, as it may very well help others. Thank you
