Pros: was nice while it lasted

1 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: It was a zippy little drive.

Cons: It lasted me all of ten months and is now dead and I have try and get warranty service. The MTBF 1,500,000 hours cake is a lie. SSD = Sudden Silent Death.

5 out of 5 eggsstill happy

Pros: Installed this drive in my windows 7 machine in January and its now october and it is still running with no issues at all so far. still boots just as fast as the day i installed windows.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: make sure when you install a SDD you turn off defrag. I also have 3 seagate 1.5TB HDD's that i use as iTunes media storage and run the OS, iTunes and games from the SDD.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Still happy.

Cons: Newegg shipping drive with 3.02 firmware that is five months out of date and can cause catastrophic data loss on SATA I and SATA II systems if not updated.

Other Thoughts: Updating my review from above. . .still happy with the drive, but realized after I installed in my notebook that even tho I have a SATA II notebook it still requires the firmware update (must be at least 3.50 for SATA II, 3.55 for SATA I). If you're buying this for a notebook, understand you almost certainly need to flash the firmware on your DESKTOP MACHINE. Most laptops will not have a bios option for "IDE Mode" that the firmware updater requires.

So save yourself some trouble and update the firmware with your desktop machine (which will have that bios option for IDE Mode) BEFORE you install this drive in a laptop. Otherwise you'll end up having to take it out of the laptop again to get the firmware updated to where you need it.

5 out of 5 eggsIts good!

Pros: Fast and quiet. Improved my computer's performance. Inexpensive. Easy install. Great value.

Cons: Sata II and not III.... but my machine doesn't support sata III anyway.

Other Thoughts: Plug and play on a Dell Vostro 1510. No issues.

1 out of 5 eggsCan't reccomend this for 2007 macbook pro users

Pros: For the 12 hours it worked, it seemed to be nice

Cons: Short version, I had to sent this back twice.

I had my 2007 Macbook pro sent to apple for a new motherboard. When it came back, I had the new drive waiting and took it to an apple authorized service center to have it cloned to my old disk drive and installed. When i picked it up, things were great, and I was really excited. It was almost like a new computer it was so fast.

Then the next morning the trouble started. I fired up the macbook only to get a flashing disk drive icon with a ? in the middle. Took it back to the service center; they tried everything they could think of then recommended I get a replacement. Newegg graciously accepted the return and sent me a new one.

It did the exact same thing. The service center tried to work with tech support from OCZ, but they only do email, and it was really tedious. They tried to update the firmware to no avail. Finally OCZ said to send it to them, but enough was enough. After 6 weeks of failures, I'm trying another bran

Other Thoughts: This drive probably works great in some computers. I have no idea why it wouldn't work in mine. Neither the professionals at the Apple service center nor OCZ could give me any reason why it shouldn't work in my macbook pro though. Either there is some unknown incompatibility or I was unlucky enough to get 2 defective drives in a row, or something.

Bottom line, if pros at an apple authorized service center can't get the thing to work, even while attempting to work with the manufacturer, then what else is there to do other than try another brand?

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry for the difficulties. We are unsure why this drive did not work in your Macbook. I can say that cloning your old drive may have been a problem, as SSD drives store data differently and a new installation is recommended. We offer phone support during normal working hours. We also have fully staffed support forums available at the link below. We will be happy to assist you or the support center in getting your system up and running. Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsFast and Easy

Pros: Easy install. VERY fast. No immediate need to update firmware as others have posted, but you might need to, depending on your configuration. Win 7 Enterprise installation took only 40 mins including driver updates after the install finished due to speed of rebooting. Boot time from power on to sign in screen is 23 seconds on Win 7 Enterprise and much faster when rebooting.

Cons: Mainly the continued high price of SSD per gigabyte. Based on other posts, thought I needed to update firmware to 3.55 and had trouble doing so using OCZ boot CD. Turns out the f/w update is only for SATA-1 connections. Mine is SATA-2 so no need and OCZ's update software protected me from applying a f/w update I didn't need (I assume). Not really a "Con" I guess.

Other Thoughts: I got this drive to speed up execution of VMware Workstation (V7.1.3) images on my company laptop. I need to run 2 images concurrently in addition to the host OS so, up until now, using multiple drives to avoid head contention was the best I could do. The SSD fixed all that and I am running host OS and both VWware images all from the C: drive. Major improvement - this is the fastest they've ever run. Windows 7 Enterprise reports a Windows Experience Disk Transfer Rate rating of 7.2 - normal SATA-2 drives come through at 5.9 - Woohoo!

4 out of 5 eggsDefinite Upgrade from Momentus XT

Pros: Quicker for non-boot stuff than hybrid Momentus XT. Cooler, less fan noise, more battery life. Gotta love the price for 240GB if you have a SATA II notebook and want/need to only run one drive.

Cons: Didn't rate 7.9 on Windows experience, but did go from a 5.9 (Momentus XT 500GB) to a 7.2.

Other Thoughts: Put this is in a HP Envy 17 SATA II notebook that had previously run a Seagate Momentus XT hybrid. Definite upgrade to have done so, particularly for reducing heat and fan noise, and increasing battery life somewhat. The OCZ also starts *everything* fast, where the MXT booted fast, and started your first couple "I always run that first" apps fast, but other stuff not so much.

Macrium Reflect FREE did a perfect job of cloning the old drive for a first time trouble free boot on Win 7 Pro without having to reinstall all my stuff.

Still early days, but I'm a happy camper so far.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent for the price

Pros: Cheap.
SSD.
Honestly didn't expect much for $200. I went for this because of the insane price of a 7.2k laptop drive these days. Even a 500GB 7.2k drive is more than $100. Now my MacBook Pro boots in 10 seconds flat.
TRIM works in Mac after using Trim Enabler
Trim works in Windows boot camp by default.

Cons: Had to update the firmware because the drive sounds very unstable from other reviews.
Firmware update utility doesn't work in Mac because it doesn't allow switching from AHCI to IDE so I had to use a desktop.

Other Thoughts: OCZ rebates are great. I was given an option between AMEX gift card or check. Asked for check. Also had an option for rushed processing at the cost of $3.
