OCZ Agility 3 SATA III Solid State Drives are designed and built to provide an exceptional balance of performance and value. The Agility 3 Series implements the cutting-edge SATA 6Gbps interface to deliver excellent sequential and random data transfer rates, significantly improving your computing experience over hard drives.

In addition to enhanced performance, an Agility 3 upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability. Unique and innovative, Agility 3 SSDs deliver a one-of-a-kind storage solution.

  • newegg Engineered for Cost-effective performance The OCZ Agility 3 SATA III Solid State Drives are designed and built for cost-effective performance. By leveraging the latest SATA 6Gbps interface and the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2281), the Agility 3 pushes the limits in both sequential and random data transfer rates with up to 525MB/s read plus incredible 4KB random write performance of 50,000 IOPS. This significantly improves your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience. It is backwards compatible with SATA II / 3Gbps, and is also compliant with ATA/ATAPI-8 Standard Native Command Queuing (NCQ). (Max performance achieved using Native SATA 6Gbps chipset. Rated speeds may vary slightly depending on the benchmark used, drivers, windows version, bios version and file size.)
  • newegg A Superior PC Experience In addition to enhanced performance, an Agility 3 upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability.
  • newegg TRIM Support The OCZ Agility 3 offers native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.
  • newegg S.M.A.R.T. Technology The OCZ Agility 3 adopts Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) which enables the PC to predict the future failure of hard disk drives. Through the SMART system, hard disk drives incorporate a suite of advanced diagnostics that monitor the internal operations of a drive and provide an early warning for many types of potential problems. When a potential problem is detected, the hard drive can be repaired or replaced before any data is lost or damaged.
  • newegg ECC Recovery Designed with the file verification and repair tool- ECC Recovery, OCZ Agility 3 provides up to 55 bits correctable per 512-byte sector (BCH), protecting your important files and sensitive data against digital corruption by using Reed-Solomon codes.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in less than a year

Pros: When it works, it's fast. Booting Windows 7 was a delight.

Cons: When Windows gives you a Blue Screen and then the system can't see the drive you suddenly ask yourself "When was the last time I made a backup image?" and reply "Oops!"

Could have been worse - most data was stored elsewhere and/or backed up offsite. And, though I hate dealing with returns, OCZ made it as painless as possible, and shipped the replacement very quickly.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Grumpy,

I am sorry to read of the failure of your Agility 3 after the blue screen. I am glad we were able to ship your replacement in a timely manner. Our goal is to provide a replacement as soon as possible in the event of a failure. If you experience any issues with the replacement just visit our Support Forum and we will gladly assist.

On behalf of OCZ, I apologize for the inconvenience!

Kind Regards,
OCZ Support

1 out of 5 eggsJust five months

Pros: Fast like a SSD should be.

Cons: Failed like a HDD never would. After just five months of use in my HTPC the computer freezes. On restart I'm told that there are no bootable devices. In the BIOS the drive doesn't even show up. I'm going to call OCZ but even if they replace my drive they can't give me back all of the time I've put into installing and setting up my computer.

Other Thoughts: I heard about all of the negative reviews of OCZ's SSDs, but I chose to ignore them. I guess they're cheaper than their competitors for a reason.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Drive

Pros: SSD speeds

Cons: SSD capacity

Other Thoughts: works great... have been running it for over a year now along with a WD Blue 500gb as a secondary. No issues at all except the small size. With the current prices I think it's time to upgrade

5 out of 5 eggsReliable, screaming fast

Pros: Super fast SSD. Good price if you wait for a Newegg sale. 90GB is plenty for an SSD (only put OS and essential programs on it.)

Cons: People complaining about their drive dying (mine is totally fine but it makes me worry.)

Other Thoughts: Recommended

3 out of 5 eggsNice drive, but one failed after only four months

Pros: Very fast.
Boot up is fast.
Loading programs is fast.
Fast game play.
WEI of 7.9!!
RAID 0 with these is screaming fast.
With two of these in RAID 0, I've never seen a computer run faster in my life.
I love SSD's.

Cons: Failed after 4 months.
Customer service not horrible, but not that great either.
Really an 80GB drive once the system recognizes it, but this should be expected.
See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: I've been buying OCZ drives for a while now and in the beginning of August 2012, I purchased two of these SSD's. I configured them both in a RAID 0 configuration. Everything was super lightning quick for three solid months. Then, out of nowhere, I boot up my computer like I always do, and the RAID array reports "Error Occurred (0)" on one of the SSD's and Windows will not boot. I get to the login screen and once I put my password in, it freezes instantly. It will boot into safe mode, but after about 10 minutes (max), the whole system freezes and I have to do a hard reset. Luckily, within that ~10min window of time, I was able to backup my data to an external drive. I'm thinking that it is a defective SSD. I figured OCZ would have some type of warranty so I put in an RMA ticket on their website. Well for the last few days, I've been getting emails from OCZ with people who have been posting comments trying to help me troubleshoot the device. Apparently my RMA request turned into a discussion topic?? The SSD is defective and I already did some preliminary troubleshooting, but I am done troubleshooting and I just want a replacement. It doesn't look like I'll be getting a replacement with the way they are trying to troubleshoot it instead of just sending me a new drive. One of OCZ associates even said, "It is not recommended to format an SSD, but in this situation, it would be a good test." So you are telling me to do something to the drive that isn't recommended? I'm sure that won't work anyway, but even if it did and suddenly the drive started working, I would then have a degraded SSD because of your suggestion to do something that is not recommended to do. Yes, I understand that RAID 0 is not fault tolerant at all and I knew what I was getting myself into when I created the array. IMO, there is no reason why a hard drive should fail after only 4 months, let alone a solid state drive! I don't know if this will affect my future purchases of SSD's in which brand to buy, but I gave up on the RMA request and I purchased a Kingston Hyper X SSD. If one of the drives did not fail, this review would have been 5 eggs without question. Would I recommend this drive to someone? I'd say yes and to give it a chance, but just know that it may fail on you so be sure to back up your data and if I were you, I'd create images periodically so if the drive does fail, you don't have to waste a lot of time reinstalling everything all over again like I'm going to have to do.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's 'Solid'

Pros: Had this drive for 9 months now, so far so good. Upgraded from an HDD and my load/boot times for Windows and other software is great. I have my most used games on this drive, and I moved the rest of my (mostly Steam) games to my old HDD, which helped increase performance by getting them off the same drive as the OS.

Cons: None so far, wish it came with a 3.5 converter bracket, although I'm using an older case and a lot of newer cases have that built in.

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend OCZ drives, I'm building a new system right now and sticking with the brand.

5 out of 5 eggsDon't fear OCZ

Pros: The price was close to .50 cents a gig! It works very well. IMO the perfect boot drive.

Cons: It slows down a little when its full. Not enough to remove an egg.

Other Thoughts: OCZ seems to get a lot of mixed reviews. This product worked well so it deserves a good review.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: It's fast and works great most of the time.
Boot times are under 30 seconds and you can start working right away.
Programs start almost instantly.
Scores 7.9 WEI

Cons: Drive failed after 5 months.
1st replacement was DOA.
2nd replacement worked. Total down time was ~ 1 month.

Other Thoughts: It's a very fast drive. Really nice if you can get it on sale. The problem is their reliability. My first drive was working great for 5 months. The SMART data said 100% SSD life remaining. I did a secure erase one day, and the drive just failed. It said 0% life remaining, and it was getting tons of errors when I installed windows. The nice thing is that it has a warranty, and OCZ was pretty hassle free with replacing it, and as far as I can tell they send out brand new drives, not refurbs. I did have to pay for shipping though.
The replacement drive was DOA :( Again, OCZ was happy to replace the DOA drive, and they even paid the shipping this time. The most recent replacement has been up and running problem free for about a month. Fingers crossed.
These are good drives when they are working, but the reliability leaves something to be desired. Lucky for me, I didn't lose any data, but others might not be so lucky. And no one likes down time with their PC. Running off my old platter drive for a month was excruciating.
OCZ's service does not make up for an inferior product. When I originally bought this drive, It was on sale for $80. With the packing and shipping for the replacement, it's now cost me $90. So I haven't saved any money at all.
I still don't regret buying this drive, but if it dies again, I will start to get angry with myself and with OCZ. It's a nice fast drive. Good for my first SSD. However, I won't buy Agility 3 again. My next SSD will be a Vertex 4 or a different brand all together.
