1 out of 5 eggsI would stay away from OCZ.

Pros: It was fast out of the box

There really are no other other Pro's

Cons: Install is a bit tricky
Driver support is not great
unstable
some of these show a problem overheating
A lot of them are dead by year 3
expensive
takes up a Pcie slot

Other Thoughts: I loved this drive right when I bought it, the drive is blazing fast right out of the box.

If you read some reviews you will see it's not easy to set up, and the driver support isn't great but if that was the only problem to deal with I wouldn't mind.

My problems started about 5 months into getting the drive. All the sudden my OS would start to slow down, I would get a blue screen now and then, and then the OS would just fail to load.

My background is IT (I’m not the average user), and didn't really think the problem was the drive right off the bat. I used Who Crashed to explorer the blue screen issues, never got a definitive answer on the crashes. I did the usually fix a clean install and looked for hardware problems. I called OCZ after this happened 3 times. At this point I was sure the problem wasn't a windows install issue, malware, or some obscure driver issue.

OCZ seemed helpful at first, but what OCZ tends to do is point you in any other direction other than a product defect. I ran Memtest and ended up out of an abundance of caution switching the ram even though a 24-hour test showed no problems. This system had no overclocking and plenty of fans to provide cooling.
As time went on the system became more unstable 3 months turned to 3 weeks before the system would fail to boot. I changed the motherboard and updated the bios and firmware on the drive.

Today the drive just flat out fails to load windows. I have gone through at least 10 Windows installs using DVD media and USB, making sure the install media has the latest updates, you never know there could be some type of corruption if you have to load a ton of updates. I have installed Win 7 Pro 64, Win Ultimate 64, and Win Pro 32. All have had the same issue.

OCZ still says it not a drive issue, the answer load Windows on another drive, load the driver, then we will test off the second drive the OCZ drive. That is pretty much where I told them I wasn’t doing anymore testing. I am not R&D for OCZ and they don’t pay me so if this is what you get for $750, sorry I will stick with a $250 regular SSD.

OCZ has a problem with this drive, I can’t prove it but I suspect the 3 year warranty is a tip off. Typically a flagship product would have a 5 year Warranty, unless you don’t want to get stuck with a lot of RMA’s. This is just my personal experience and opinion with this product. OCZ customer support tends to talk down to you and treat you like you can’t find the ON button. Hey, I will play along as long as it gets my stuff fixed, but the fact is they will do everything they can not to make good on the Warranty or admit they have a problem. In the end you have very little recourse, I can’t prove it’s the drive and I got tired of investing this much time in solving this issue. It’s just easier to move on.

This is just a cautionary tale, but I will be buying Intel and Samsung SSD’s from now on, it’s a shame it was such an expensive mistake.

1 out of 5 eggsUnable to use

Pros: Don't know of any yet. Oh yeh - good packaging.

Cons: Box came with the drive and a CD. CD says Driver and Manual. 1.0.0.6700. When disk is accessed only tthe startup program activates. NO MANUAL. Downloaded toolbox from Ocz web site and updated the driver. The Toolbox program said BIOS is latest. Windows 7 Pro 64 bit does not recognize the drive. I can't find it anywhere. SO -- no grade.

Other Thoughts: I would like to make this my boot drive, but NO manual, NO instructions and NO disk availability.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing is the bomb

Pros: I just built a 5K+ gaming rig and if I where to single out the best single piece of HW that yields perceivable speed is this guy. Under all bench-marking tools, you will get 500MB/sec+, no questions asked. My favorite stat is access time: 0.00 msecs :D. Windows flies on this thing and Linux and other more asynchronous OSs are real-time, no questions asked. A truly remarkable piece of engineering.

Cons: none. Those who have reported problems made me think that this thing was "fragile" but is not. I have tinkered with the BIOS and other hardware, and even removed BIOS battery several times. This thing POSTs all the time.

Other Thoughts: This is a no-brainer, get it.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Quality that is Unbelievable

Pros: I have bought other cards without this problem

Cons: Being in manufacturing myself, I can not believe that any quality process would allow these cards to pass/ship. Two of the SSD chips that are to be attached to the card were loose in the sealed anti-static bag. I wasn't even comfortable with trying to fire up my unit with this card.

Other Thoughts: makes one wonder what deeper flaws that you can't see lurk deep within these cards.... I will press OCZ for an explaination

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Video Rendering

Pros: Fast!!! - I built my computer specifically to do HD 1080P Video Rendering. The Revodrive 3 X2 Max is the best money I ever spent on a single computer part... I am rendering a 38 min 1080P Video in Adobe Premier CS4 - NTSC 29.97 drop frame, Quality 5, widescreen 16x9, Single Pass, Min Bit rate 25.1 Max 30.... Completed video rendering in 19 minutes 20 seconds... Video File size Almost 6 gig completed.. With conventional hard drives it could take several hours or more to complete the same task... I had the Revodrive2x as my primary drive before and I was still rendering same video and settings 38 min video took 40 min to complete so I was happy with that but the extra 21 minutes I am saving with the 3x is amazing

Cons: If you don't do your research then it can be a real task to install as primary drive. Make Sure the motherboard can boot to PCI if you plan on running this as your C Drive... Tech Note!!! If you use the Driver CD that comes with this drive make sure you take the cd out imediatly after the driver has loaded or you will see an error that windows cant be installed.. If the CD is still in the CD Rom then you will see that error. It Such a simple thing you would think that Microsoft would put a message like REMOVE CD. but no I felt like a complete idiot when I figured out what the problem was... I hope this helps someone save an hour or 2 of problem solving...

Other Thoughts: I am Running an i7 990x - 24 gig Ram - GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD7 Mobo - Primary Drive OCZ RevoDrive 3 X2 Max - Secondary Drive OCZ RevoDrive X2 and a bunch of SATA drives

5 out of 5 eggsRevo3 x2 220,000iops (Pcie ssd)

Pros: yes it's super fast, faster than anything you have, or Imagine, if you can afford this you will be the King, The Boss of ssd's.
it's a Pcie ssd (w7pro64) 240gb R1600/W1500 mb/s default from ocz.
it reads at 1575mb/s on my system
it writes at 1360mb/s (Atto benchmark)

runs very cool and totally silent of course, this is what system i have it in, for now:

Crosshair IV Extreme.1100T 6cores (4250mhz)
PCIe RevoDrive3 X2 Max IOPS
PCIe.SSd Accelsior OWC
SS PhazeChange Cooling -36c
6970 MSI Lighting
Kingwin Mach1-1220watts
Ram:Ocz.AMD.Edition 2000mhz.C8
Dell U2410 24" IPS

its easy to install with the right motherboards, i had to experiment with mine, the "crosshairIV extreme" was not on the Ocz comptability list but the "crosshair formula" was.
i made a few bios 2002 adjustments(disable ata option rom) in onboard device configuation for my motherboard.
you can have what i have and what others have like this set yourself for it and just do it.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is My Second One

Pros: Fast. Better than any previous RevoDrive - and I've had them all. Easy to setup, works well, no issues.

Cons: Price. It's expensive. Even on sale, there is a premium for this speed. For example, going from a 240 GB Vertex 3 Max IOPS to this is about a 25% speed increase. But the cost is about a 100% increase (about (double).

Other Thoughts: CrystalDiskMark speed tests:

CrystalDiskMark 3.01 x64

Test : 1000 MB
Sequential Read: 1010 MB/s Sequential Write: 503.3 MB/s
Random Read 512KB: 738.9 MB/s Random Write 512KB: 520.1 MB/s
Random Read 4K: 24.95 MB/s Random Write 4K: 51.83 MB/s
Random Read 4K QD32: 418.0 MB/s Random Write 4K QD32:350.2 MB/s

Test : All 0x00, 0Fill
Sequential Read: 1023 MB/s Sequential Write: 942.1 MB/s
Random Read 512KB: 776.1 MB/s Random Write 512KB: 793.1 MB/s
Random Read 4K: 28.16 MB/s Random Write 4K: 53.83 MB/s
Random Read 4K QD32: 455.1 MB/s Random Write 4K QD32: 547.4 MB/s

5 out of 5 eggsOperates Flawlessly - Very Fast

Pros: No issues at all. Very fast. 1700 Reads 1500 Writes on x79 motherboard. This is my second Revodrive3 X2. The first was a non-maxiops. Worked perfect also. Depending on motherboard, the maxiops is about 150mbps faster than the async NAND version.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: System boots are a few seconds longer than a SataIII SSD.
