5 out of 5 eggsI guess I'm a lucky one

Pros: It was a great drive from its time. Still kickin after 3 years.

Cons: Wished it cost the same as the drive I have now. Wished there was more long-term support for the drive as well.

Other Thoughts: This was my first ever SSD which I bought back in mid 2012. After seeing the latest reviews where others have commented on the drive dying after 2-2.5 years makes me think I'm lucky to have it still working after 3 years. I used it as a boot drive in my gaming system, though i didn't really have any games on it.

The computer it was in pretty much ran 24/7 as I hardly turned it off, even though I probably should have once in a while. I never saw what the drive was truely capable of because the computer it was in only had a Sata II connection, but it still outperformed any mechanical drive I had, possibly even the Raptor drive I had, though I don't recall if I ever did a comparison with the two drives.

3 months ago I upgraded to a more spacious SSD, but the drive is still used and still going strong. I hope it doesn't die any time soon.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked great for 2 1/2 years

Pros: Fast
Easy initial setup

Cons: Died suddenly 2 1/2 years later. No explanation.

Other Thoughts: This thing came highly recommended and performed very well. I had this set as my boot drive but also had a raid 0 with two conventional drives covering everything else. This drive was never more than 1/4 full, had a firmware update before installation, I never ran defrags or full virus scans on it, and it worked great for almost exactly 2 1/2 years.

However I came home from work one day and it was dead. Wouldn't read on anything. It wasn't even on start up, it died during the day while idling. Rest of the system appears to be fine and I've got a pretty beefy Trip Lite surge protector going as well. Because of the unique configuration in which I had my hdd's/ssd, I won't be able to reinstall windows until I completely redo my raid configuration, meaning that i've lost everything. (I was able to boot from my laptop drive and recover some things, just keep in mind that in such a setup, failure of the boot drive can render your computer unrecoverable).

The one thing that might have caused this premature failure is the fact that I routinely put this computer into sleep mode, which shuts off all the drives. I believed that power cycling no longer was as much of a threat to SSDs, but that may not be the case. I figured my raid0 would go out way before this drive.

1 out of 5 eggsbwa-bwa-bwaaa

Pros: Worked well initially

Cons: kaput after 2 years

Other Thoughts: Wowed at the front end of the purchase, not so impressed to replace it after two years. Still have "old fashioned" hard drives from the last century that still perform.

5 out of 5 eggsOCZ Vertex 4 VTX4-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Great drive for a good price bought back in 2013 and have had no issues. Win 7 boots twice as fast as my previous tradition drive. Fast game load times.

Cons: none but wish I could afford a larger drive

Other Thoughts: Bought for a gaming rig. It was my first SSD on a personal rig and I was very surprised at how much faster the PC booted and open/closed programs, as well how quickly in game load times became.

1 out of 5 eggsBad

Pros: Operated quickly, benchmarked as one of the fastest Vertex 4's based on other users benchmarks. Very happy chappy.. until it died that is.

Cons: Chip failure. Had a random reboot a couple of times.. never suspected the SSD. Then boom. DEAD.

Never again OCZ. Bad components. Stick with Intel.. Crucial, Samsung..

Other Thoughts: They should do a bloody recall on these drives.. I suspect nearly every one one of them will fail within the 5 year warranty period.

I hope this drive kills their credability.

To be fair though.. their email support is quite good..

2 out of 5 eggsReliability issues

Pros: Good price
Fast

Cons: I've had this drive for some time now. In the years that i've had it I have probably only used it 1/3 of the time. Within the first 4 months it crashed and i had to flash the firmware to get it to work again. I called OCZ and they gave me the impression that this was very common with this drive.

After flashing and re-installing everything, it worked well for another 3 months then crashed. Called OCZ to let them know and see if i could get a different one as this one seemed to be just a bad pool.

They couldn't help so i re-flashed again and it worked for another 3 months and crashed. I said screw it and used my backup drive since (Which has worked flawlessly for years).

Recently tried it one last time and it seemed to be licked finally. After 6 or so months it crashed...

Other Thoughts: Decent customer support until you ask for a replacement.
