1 out of 5 eggsNever worked well

Pros: fast, cheap, doesn't need too much energy

Cons: Unreliable, random errors all over made windows unusable. Installed old rotational hdd everything works fine.

Other Thoughts: Never really worked but became worse and worse by time.

5 out of 5 eggsGot it on clearance

Pros: Its a good, low capacity, solid-state drive. I keep my master boot on it and it helps tremendously. I ran out of space on it rather quickly, but I knew I would when I got it.

The interesting thing about this drive is how durable it is. I dropped it from 4' up onto a concrete floor and still have no apparent issues.

Cons: None really.

4 out of 5 eggsOCZ Tech Support

Pros: I was able to get in touch with their tech support, and within 2 weeks, was given a replacement. I had initially tried to format the drive to NTFS using Parted Magic, but every reboot resulted in the blue screen of death. After a BIOS update and format using Parted Magic, the new drive worked on the first try. I was very surprised at the quick response of tech support. Best part: installing XP only took about 10 minutes instead of the standard 30 - 40 (after formatting).

Cons: I was disappointed when I could not use my SSD as a standalone hard drive in my laptop (running Windows XP). I have heard that it is difficult to format an SSD running XP without first installing the drive as a secondary and formatting it. Turns out that it was dead on arrival.

Manufacturer Response:

We are happy that our tech support team wa able to help you sort out your installation. Windows XP was created before SSD drives existed, while newer versions of Windows are more SSD friendly. If we can ever be of assistance our support forums are a great resource. Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsGood Price Performance - But Doesn't Work in Dell Inspiron E1505 Laptops

Pros: Fast. Easy on the wallet.

Cons: Wouldn't work on my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop. Luckily, I built my dad a comp with a Agility 3 60GB, so I just cloned his data onto the new drive, swapped it into his, and put his Agility 3 in the E1505, which worked fine. The Vertex Plus works fine in his machine with ASRock A55M-HVS

4 out of 5 eggsServiceable SSD

Pros: Not the fastest SSD out there but more than good enough for a boot drive. Seems stable, gets you past the moments when the OS would hang because a disk drive had yet to seek the data it was waiting on. Makes for about a half step of an upgrade in terms of the boost in speed it'll give you... just from the nature of no longer using a platter drive.

I did a simple Clonezilla RAW duplication until both partitions were fully copied and set the BIOS to boot from the SSD. Worked on the first try. Windows 7 even recognized it was now booting from an SSD and enabled TRIM automatically.

Seems much more stable than the previous SSD I had (SandForce based)... I'll take the tradeoff. I'd rather have a stable SSD rather than a blistering fast one that'll fail on first copy like my other one did multiple times.

Windows 7 rates this drive as a 7.2 in the Windows experience benchmark.

Cons: Annoying blue LED from within the unit lights up when powered on. (Blue LEDs always cause me to dock an egg regardless of the product. Seriously, stop using blue LEDs, manufacturers. It's annoying, lights up the whole room at night and gives a lot of people headaches.)

Not really that fast in terms of overall throughput but still a nice boost in seeking times and higher IOps makes for better performance when it matters.

Other Thoughts: I got this SSD free with a Shuttle Barebones order and decided to clone my boot drive to it. It works and allowed me to reduce my setup by one platter drive. Ultimately can't complain about free.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Price. Does the job. According to ATTO, read max is 180M/S and write max is 85M/S. It is a great improvement from the conventional hard drive.

Cons: None so far. I don't know how long it will last.

Other Thoughts: This is my first SSD. Nothing I can seay, but give 5 eggs to shis product.

5 out of 5 eggsFAST (boots Ubuntu in 17 seconds)

Pros: Fast on old systems with sata I and sata II boots Ubuntu on old systems (tested on Dell inspiron 1420n 5yrs old) in 17 seconds.

Cons: As expected your not going to store your whole movie library on this - you'll need an external drive if you're going to save movies and more free linux software on it.

Other Thoughts: actual tests from old laptop with sata interface super fast boot
Timing cached reads: 5988 MB in 2.00 seconds = 3000.58 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 530 MB in 3.00 seconds = 176.47 MB/sec

1 out of 5 eggsBad drive.

Pros: Fast when it worked.

Cons: Stopped working after about 3 weeks...

Other Thoughts: I purchased my drive on 5/31 as part of a rebate promotion that was running. Seemed too good to pass up. Should have passed... Other people online warned about the drive as well.

Drive worked fine for about 2 weeks, then suddenly the BIOS could not see it anymore after a reboot. After changing SATA cable and resetting the BIOS a few times it started working again. I used it for a few more days and after another reboot it can't be detected again. So far BIOS resets and cable changes have not had any effect. Not sure if I want to bother with manufacturer replacement since I suspect I will just get another bad drive based on other comments and reviews online.
