An excellent starting point into the world of SSDs, the Vertex Plus offers lower cost per gigabyte configurations than competing drives by perfectly combining cost effective NAND and controller technology. The Vertex Plus SSDs are the result of big breakthroughs in SSD technology, including the cutting-edge flash memory technology and revolutionary new Indilinx Arowana FTL with HyperQueuing to offer exceptional sequential write speeds and random IOPS. Faster, cooler, quieter, and more durable than conventional hard disc drives, the OCZ Vertex Plus Solid State Drives offer great choice for your laptop or desktop upgrade. With excellent reliability and lower power consuming NAND flash, these SSDs use less energy while giving you real-world results in your everyday computing and battery life.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Acting without any moving parts, the OCZ Vertex Plus solid state disk (SSD) boasts multiple advanced features including zero mechanical noise, faster data rates compared to conventional HDDs, ultra-low power consumption and impressive shock, vibration and extreme temperature resistance. With these breakthrough capabilities, the SSD meets all the demanding requirements for high-performance data storage.
  • newegg TRIM Support The OCZ Vertex Plus Series SSD’s offer native TRIM support than can be enabled in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSDs memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

5 out of 5 eggsStripped OCZ Vertex

Pros: I am using 2 OCZ Vertex Plus OCZSSD2-1VTXPL240G.N 2.5" 240GB, They are stripped to improve windows load time. The drives are extremely fast and my desktop is loaded before the windows sound will play. On my next pc build I will be buying these drives again.

Cons: Nothing!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Very fast, as compared to the HGST 7200RPM HDD that came with my laptop.
- Large size for a good price.
- Has been running strong for almost six months.

Cons: - 3.02 (?) Firmware seems to be a bit buggy, but 3.55 seems to work fine.
- Can only update the firmware by booting from a CD (no flash drives...) on a computer with IDE mode (my Sony Vaio doesn't have that option in the BIOS, so I borrowed a friend's desktop).
- SATA II, not III (but my Vaio's chipset only has SATA II, so I'm not out much...).
- It keeps getting cheaper... oh well...

Other Thoughts: - When I first tried to clone over my Windows 7 install from the original hard drive, it would throw CHKDSK errors about once every three startups, would scan through, and maybe a few files here or there (on the order of a half dozen) would go missing. I tried recloning it, to no avail. At the suggestion of OCZ Support, I updated the firmware to 3.55, and reinstalled Win7 from recovery media, which seems to have fixed the issue (though I'm not certain which one actually did fix it, but my bet is on the firmware).
- Overall, once all the bugs are worked out (and if you're lucky, by the looks of the other posts...), this seems to be a nice budget SSD.

1 out of 5 eggsfollow up

Pros: If you get a working one that doesn't die you are lucky.

Cons: I had to re install my old hard drive because this drive started to give me boot disk, scan disk, and corrupted sector errors. i had to re install windows 3 times due to disk corruption. If you do a search on this ssd, you will find that a lot of people are having problems with this hd.

Other Thoughts: I am working on an rma with the company and i hope they will fix the disk.

I really feel bad about giving this product 5 eggs and i apologize profusely to anyone who bought this product on my earlier review.

In the end I should have spent a little more money and bought a better ssd.

1 out of 5 eggsSSD died after 3 months

Pros: cheap - cheapo

Cons: This OCZ SSD died after 3 months of regular use (3 to 9 hours a day). Called OCZ for replacement and I have to pay for the shipping. They don't give me any shipping return label.

Other Thoughts: Spend a couple more bucks and get yourself Intel or Samsung SSD.

Manufacturer Response:

We aplogize for the problem and the inconvenience. Our support policies follow industry standard guidelines. Shipping is paid to the manufacturer by the customer, and shipping back to the customer is paid by the manufacturer. We will see that you are properly taken care of. Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsRidiculously Unreliable

Pros: These are being blown out at low prices, since presumably there's no other way to justify the risk of an OCZ.

Cons: First one died after a few days, Newegg exchanged it. The replacement died after a couple of months. Now RMA-ing it with OCZ.

Other Thoughts: I wish I could make two negative reviews, one for each dead drive.

If you don't need a reliable hard drive, this one is cheap. I will never recommend or use OCZ again. Other SSDs we own: one Intel, a couple Kingston, and a few Crucial drives, and have never had any problems with them.
