OCZ Vertex Plus R2 Solid State Drives are the faster, cooler, quieter, and more durable alternative to conventional hard disc drives. With excellent reliability and lower power consuming NAND flash, these SSDs use less energy while giving you real-world results in your everyday computing and battery life.

Complete with TRIM support, Vertex Plus R2 is the ultimate notebook or desktop upgrade. Thanks to cost effective NAND and controller technology, the Vertex Plus R2 offers lower cost per gigabyte configurations than competing drives on the market, making them excellent starting points into the world of SSDs. Available in 60GB to 240GB capacities, the Vertex Plus Series is an ideal upgrade option for system boot drives, RAID arrays, or as primary laptop storage at an ultra-attractive price point.

  • newegg Faster performance for cost-effectiveness SSDs have 100X greater throughput and instantaneous access times for quicker boot ups, faster file transfers, and overall snappier performance than hard drives. Because many HDDs are needed to achieve the same performance, SSDs offer greater cost effectiveness for IOPS per dollar.
  • newegg Greater Durability The non-mechanical design of NAND flash mounted to circuit boards are shock resistant up to 1500g, unlike HDDs with various moving parts.
  • newegg Less power SSDs use significantly less wattage at peak load than hard drives, delivering longer battery life in notebooks, less power strain on system, and a cooler computing environment.
  • newegg Silent operation With no moving parts, SSDs run virtually silent in your notebook or PC case to eliminate distracting noises during gaming or entertainment.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product So Far

Pros: Replaced my previous 250 GB 7200 RPM Hard drive with this one on my 4-years Toshiba Cosmio X505-830. It was recognized by the BIOS with no problems at all. Created 2 partitions with 115 GB each. Installed the OS (Windows 7 Pro) and all updates smoothly on the first partition. Used the scond partition for day-to-day data storeage. Installed SQL Server 2012 and Visual Studio 2012 with all rngs and bells. Several other apps for work. My heavy laptop started booting way faster and shuts down even faster than before. Working time on battery went up with 30-50%. It looks like the laptop has a lot better oferall performance. I am very satisfied by the hard drive.

Cons: I can't see anything wrong so far. I hope it will last longer than some of the other reviews.

Other Thoughts: Well, initially I tried to clone my existing OS, but as other people say - brand new re-install is highly recommended. I have several other conventional HDs with good speed and capacity, so 230 GB is just about enough for my daily needs. I also kept the other HD as a ready-to-go backup. I also made a system image of the SSD, so if something goes wrong, I wouldn't loose data.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: High capacity, fair price

Cons: Problematic, continuous issues

Other Thoughts: First one I received went bad after less than two weeks. Got a replacement from OCZ and am having problems with the replacement only 5 days later! I'd go with the agility 3 to save yourself from any issues.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Consumer,

I can confidently say the OCZ Support Forum is great at resolving issues such as this. If you continue to experience issues with your OCZ product please contact us and we will help get your drive working properly.

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer beware.

Pros: None

Cons: First drive arrived DOA. I messed with it for hours tying to get my HP Proliant Microserver to recognize the drive to install WHS2011. Finally thought it might need a flash update so I download the latest flash for the drive from OCZ and created a boot CD. I put it in my desktop computer and it didn't recognize it either. My conclusion. Bad drive. Waiting for the replacement.

Other Thoughts: Not sure if you can get a refund on this drive if you get it DOA. Also, I don't understand why I have to pay +$10 in shipping to send it back to Newegg. That should be covered for a DOA drive.

1 out of 5 eggsMaybe not for a MacBook on bootcamp

Pros: None

Cons: Would not allow my MacBook Pro to sleep in Windows 7 on bootcamp. Crashed on wake *every* time.

Other Thoughts: OCZ is a great company and I love their products. Just not this one. After a couple weeks of troubleshooting with them on this, it was replaced with a Vertex 3 which worked the first time. No issues at all. I could have just had a bad one but I would be cautious. Just get the Vertex 3 or the Agility 3 and save the headaches!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Consumer,

I am glad we were able to arrange for an alternate replacement for you! Your satisfaction is important to us. If you ever experience any issues with the Vertex 3 just let us know and we will continue to assist!

Sincerely,
OCZ Support

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Replacement Drive

Pros: Great device. Fast, reliable and QUIET!!!!!

Cons: None so far!

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a failing WD HDD that I have had for 5 years. I was eager to try an SSD and glad I was able to find one compatable with SATA II. Smooth installation, no problems what-so-ever. However in my haste to install the drive, I forgot to set the Sata controller in Bios to AHCI. Luckily there was a registry tweak to fix the issue. Make sure you don't forget to do that before you install your OS. ;)

4 out of 5 eggsBreathed new life into my dad's 2007 iMac 24"

Pros: Fast and Inexpensive! This is a great way to breath new life into older hardware.

Cons: Of course this drive doesn't support newest SATA implementations, but neither do the SATA controllers aboard older machines.

Other Thoughts: I bought one of these as a gift for my father, who owns and loves a mid-2007 iMac 24" which he inherited from me several years ago. It had gotten a bit slow under the constraints of 6MB maximum RAM, and Mountain Lion. (I'm fairly sure the OEM hard drive was slowly dying too.) Anyway, I used SuperDuper to clone his system drive to this SSD in a USB enclosure for 90 minutes, then slapped it into a 3.5" frame, and carefully removed the old Seagate drive and installed this SSD into the iMac. The machine is now VERY snappy, and once again feels new. It's not the whiz-bang stuff of the newest SATA implementations, but still beats the hell out of mechanical drives, and it is perfect in machines which are limited to SATA II.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Fast

Pros: I wouldn't go back to a non-SSD after my experience with this drive! Super fast load, shut down, and screaming performance with gaming. Faster game loading, faster in game, faster everything.

Cons: They don't make them big enough!

1 out of 5 eggsGreat... for a short time

Pros: Cheap (for an SSD), high IOPS, significantly faster boot and load times over classic platter drive.

Cons: Win7 Sidebar failed to load on day 2, OS hung on boot on day 3, due to corrupt system volume on disk. After running fix utility and rebooting, sidebar still missing, network connection not in evidence, hung on shutdown. System is behaving erratically, installers are failing...

Other Thoughts: Ordered a new drive from a different manufacturer. Failure this fast is untenable. Do not want replacement, but cannot RMA for refund. Last OCZ drive I'm buying. Will maybe use this drive for non-crucial programs until it runs into the ground.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the problems you experienced with your new installation! Please visit our phenomenal Support Forums detailing your experience we will help determine whether this is a hardware of software problem and get you taken care of accordingly.

4 out of 5 eggsDONT PAY FOR EXPRESS SHIPPING

Pros: I'm assuming this will be a great SSD for my, relatively aged, core2quad setup, will be lightning fast and will improve overall efficiency... WHENEVER IT MAY ARRIVE... (see cons)

Cons: I had shelled out extra money for expedited international shipping. Key word here is EXPEDITED. I could see that it had shipped out the same day as I had ordered it... "great... +1 for the egg." I thought... then the couriers (which the egg uses) took over.

Other Thoughts: Apparently no one at egg central had told the couriers, that I had paid EXTRA money to have this in an EXPEDITED fashion. -2 for the egg. Customs decided to hold this an extra day... or 4, for unknown reasons. Purolator was NO HELP WHATSOEVER in tracking this and would NOT give an estimate of how much time I should be expected to wait. DO NOT PAY FOR EXPRESS SHIPPING. IT's A SCAM.
