OCZ Vertex 3 Solid State Drives unleash the performance potential of the SATA 6Gbps interface, leading the speed revolution in this next-generation solution. As the first SSD to feature the latest SandForce controller design, OCZ designed the Vertex 3 to push the limits in both sequential and random read/write rates to blaze past the competition when every MB/s matters. With incredible 4k file writes up to 60,000 IOPS, these latest drives take productivity, gaming, and multimedia applications to the next level to work in perfect symmetry with the latest enthusiast platforms.

Built with the quality, reliability, and durability that lives up to the OCZ name, the Vertex 3 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 companion.

  • newegg Industry-Leading Performance & Endurance Driven by the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2200), the Vertex 3 Series is designed and built to unleash the full potential of the 6Gbps SATA III interface. The Vertex 3 pushes the limits in both sequential and random data transfer rates, significantly improving your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience. In addition, the SSD controller’s integrated enhanced DuraClass Technology is architected to leverage today’s densest MLC NAND Flash memory, delivering best-in-class performance, endurance, security, and power efficiency in a “DRAM-less”, single chip solution.
  • newegg A Superior PC Experience In addition to maximum performance, a Vertex3 upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability. Vertex 3 SSDs work in perfect harmony with next generation platforms and operating systems to deliver the ultimate storage solution.
  • newegg TRIM Support The Vertex 3 Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

5 out of 5 eggsGood price for your standard SSD

Pros: easy install (as long as you have the proper hardware)
26 second boot time with this SSD, and minimal windows configuration
30 dollars when I purchased, so great great deal.

Cons: Does not come with any mounting tools, or screws etc. just the hard drive (which is standard, but would have been nice)

Other Thoughts: Things to remember when you buy this drive:

This is an SSD, your bios NEEDS to be in UEFI mode. If at any point you update or flash your bios, you need to double check and make sure UEFI is active or your ssd will not appear in BIOS/boot list
(I forget this on initial setup and got all worked up about it, until I remembered that little step)

3 out of 5 eggsDrive is quick and seems stable (so far)... but having issues updating firmware (extremely important on this drive)

Pros: - Received quickly from CTS warehouse

- Benchmarks show the drive has snappy read speeds

- Boot and load times are fast as ****

- OCZ customer support seems to be more than happy to help troubleshoot, even with this drive being refurbished

- ~ $30 for a cheap boot drive w/ enough space for software and a handful of games.

Cons: - Write speeds are nothing to brag about... but that is to be expected with this drives capacity and controller.

****- Drive was received with old firmware installed, the controller used on this drive is know to have stability issues with anything but the latest firmware installed... so far I have been unable to update the drive's firmware with OCZ's update utility. Currently working with OCZ customer support to find a workaround.****

Other Thoughts: With my limited use the drive does appear to be stable with outdated firmware... but given the well documented issues with the drive's controller and outdated firmware I have to rate this product at a max of 3 eggs... if OCZ's customer support is able to solve my update issue I would happily raise this rating to 5 eggs.

1 out of 5 eggsbroke then broke again

Pros: worked...for a while

Cons: first one stopped working within 3 months, fortunately it was covered by warranty for the first 3 months, so I got send a new refurbished, which then broke within 3 months. At this time I had used the drive very sparingly. Good thing my OS was on a separate drive. It broke again! If you read the fine print, the replacement is not covered by any additional warranty. I wonder if I was purposely shipped a near defective replacement. In comparison, I've owned a Corsair GT SSD, also a refurb, with no problems for almost two years, and extensive use. This drive was just money down the toilet.

Other Thoughts: I've been very satisfied with purchases on newegg for the last several years and this is my first big disappointment. Given the problem with quality, I would not recommend even buying this drive new.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Was quick while it was working.

Cons: Died a few days after the 90 day warranty period. OCZ would not budge and make an exception.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Was fast when it would boot.

Cons: SSD was failing out of the box thought it was the motherboard turn'ed out it wouldn't show up in the Bois at ramdom, then it got to the piont where it wouldnt come up at all or boot the OS. Now i have to hassle with RMA.

Other Thoughts: I really like OCZ products but this is the first time OCZ has let me down. I've owned alot of Refurb OCZ Revo drives and SSD'S that still run. This one was glitchy out of the box.

1 out of 5 eggsOCZ

Pros: Very inexpensive

Cons: Its cheap and last no time. I purchased two of these and ran them in mirrior raid configuration. I had one go out 2 months in and sent it in. Got it back the next week the other one goes out. Sent it in and 3 months later same story one goes out ect ect. Keeps going until I get your no longer in warranty sorry cannot help you. It is cheap and will not last at all. I went with a Samsung now and love the EVO 840s they rock. Never miss a beat and they dont break. I love the new slogan for OCZ now PERFORMANCE SHOULD LAST. Well make a better product so it will. Just putting that slogan up doesnt mean your stuff is still not junk. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY buy the right stuff the first time and save yourself some pain.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Consumer,

It appears you did not purchase this item from Newegg. We are very sorry you had a poor experience with your refurbished products. OCZ does thoroughly test each refurbished/recertified unit and it is very unusual for a problem to manifest after months of use. If you currently have any product that is still within the warranty period please contact us and we will make arrangements with you.

The comparison you have made is unusual. The Vertex 3 was originally released in 2011 with small numbers of refurbished units made available on Newegg. Most customers find the performance of these older drives at discounted pricing to be a pefect fit and enjoy long term reliability. However, comparing a refurbished drive originally released in 2011 with a brand new drive released in 2013/2014 is a difficult comparison. A stunning performance-class drive such as the OCZ Vertex 460 far exceeds the drive referenced in both general performance and sustained "dirty" performance.

OCZ Storage Solutions - A Toshiba Group Company has a rich portfolio of best-in-class storage offerings. Please take a moment to explore our current solutions and contact us if you have any questions at all. We are confident we can match a storage solution that is right for you.

Best Regards,

OCZ Support

3 out of 5 eggsconcerned

Pros: Cheap for SSD

Cons: Have been having issues with data corruption since I started using these. Registry has gotten corrupted 3 times now and other random files have corrupted. Installed windows twice so far. Just got in new cables yesterday so will see how this goes. Also not getting speeds posted. On both one drive it is between 190-300 and the other is 200-325.

Other Thoughts: I have always been happy with OCZ products. First time I ever had problems with any, but also first time I bought refurbished drives.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far it's reliable

Pros: Fast read/write

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: This is my first SSD. I have purchased many products through Newegg refurbed and so far none of them I had to send back. So we shall see and write again after 3 months with an update
