Based on a cutting-edge new architecture, Vertex 2 Solid State Drives raise the bar once again and deliver unprecedented performance for the complete gamut of gaming and professional multimedia applications. OCZ designed the Vertex 2 to surpass the competition where it counts most, pushing the limits in both sequential and random read/write rates. With spectacular performance in 4k file writes up to 50,000 IOPS, these latest drives take productivity to the next level with over ten times the performance of the previous generation. Using the latest controller technology, Vertex 2 not only provides a faster, more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives.

With sheer performance that outpaces the competition, the Vertex 2 doesn’t lose sight of what makes an SSD the ideal storage alternative to hard drives and delivers the quality, reliability, and durability demanded by consumers that will not settle for anything but the best. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Vertex 2 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 notebook or desktop upgrade.

  • newegg Cool, quiet and durable operation OCZ Vertex 2 SSDs feature a durable yet lightweight housing, and because they have no moving parts, they are more rugged than conventional hard discs. Available in ample 40GB to 480GB capacities, the Vertex 2 is an ideal hard drive replacement for first-time SSD upgraders in need of primary laptop storage or a spacious application and OS boot drive.
  • newegg TRIM Support The OCZ Vertex 2 Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

5 out of 5 eggsNot surprised

Pros: I've had this refurb for over 2 years, and it keeps chugging along.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Buying refurbs is hit or miss. If all refurbs were this good, I'd never buy new!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat item and great price

Pros: Still working and running super fast today. I use it daily and with a lot of uptime. I'd say it's outlived what I paid for it. I wouldn't even be mad if it failed at this point...but I'm sure it still has plenty of life in it.

Cons: none honestly...not sata 3?

Other Thoughts: Can't really beat the price/performance.

2 out of 5 eggsIf I only needed an SSD for a week, this would have been great

Pros: It was cheap ($50 for 100GB in 2013?!), and booted fast for the 3 days it worked.

Cons: It stopped working *reliably* after 3 days and since I got it refurbished for a Black Friday sale, there were no ifs, buts, guarantees, trades, or refunds.

Other Thoughts: The weird thing is, It booted about half the time in a Lenovo desktop PC for another 3 months, which is why I swore it worked. I'd come home to random BSODs and since this was my girlfriend's computer, she blamed me for breaking it. Her last (mechanical) HDD had had a similar problem, leading me to do all the diagnostics under the sun, which proclaimed both drives as error-free. I kept blaming the motherboard or the SATA ports or something, but after taking the SSD out, it's booted up fine for the last year. I saved the SSD in hopes I could use it to put in a laptop or a work PC, but it is not even recognized by anything anymore.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfectly after 13 months

Pros: Chugs along nicely without any hiccups.

Cons: No longer price-competitve given current new SSD market pricing.

Other Thoughts: Since 1st put into use in Dec 19, 2013, never had any issues with this refurb.

**NOTE; This drive is not compatible with Intel Haswell chipset motherboards. My experience is that it works intermittenly with SATA 2 ports, but not with SATA 3 ports.**

1 out of 5 eggsKeeps crashing, finally I know why

Pros: It worked nicely for the first month.

Cons: After the first month the computer started with bsod every few days. Now we're at a few bsod every day and I need to get a new one. It has taken me a long time to figure out what exactly was wrong. I finally had a super-computer person look at it and he said it was the SSD. Of course it is. (It is refurbished...)

Other Thoughts: Buying a new one I guess...

Pros: Worked great and brought up the operating system.

Cons: One day started the system and hard drive could not be found. Died within the year. Hard drive was small.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to Previous Review - Drive Replaced

Pros: OCZ Customer Support!
New drive rocks!!

Cons: Inconvenience of having to replace failed drive, had to pay return postage.

Other Thoughts: This is an update to my earlier review. A few reviews down is my original review of the Vertex 2, which failed barely within warranty. Specifically, it died on day 178 of the 180-day refurb warranty. I feared we'd be stuck with a dead drive, especially with OCZ's recent bankruptcy/buyout issues.

Well, I needn't have worried. Obviously, Toshiba (who now owns OCZ) has decided to support their existing customers, because they replaced this drive with a *brand-new* Vertex from the current lineup. This is far better than I expected, but support like this will go a long way toward putting OCZ drives back on the map again. Way to go OCZ-Toshiba!!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Happy with the purchase. Wanted a little more performance out of an older PC without spending much, so went with this refurbished drive. Very happy with the performance running Windows 8.1. Just a simple web/email/music box, but the system is noticeably snappier than with the previous spinning platters.

1 out of 5 eggsRecertified OCZ Vertex 2 64GB

Pros: It was a good price.

Cons: Drive has crashed twice since I bought it. I will buy a Crucial ssd this time. I would not recommend this drive to anyone.

Other Thoughts: I knew I was taking a chance buying a refurbished ssd, lesson learned.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed Days Before Warranty Expired

Pros: Bought this last October to give to my son for Christmas. I thought it would perk up his old Gateway Core 2 laptop, and it did - he was ecstatic when his machine booted up in 25 seconds. Used Acronis True Image to clone his original drive. The machine was much more responsive - programs open up almost instantly.
I bought

Cons: Unfortunately, it took me 3 months (after Christmas) to get around to installing this in his laptop. He got to enjoy it for two weeks, and then POOF! Nothing. Computer reports that there is no hard drive found, BIOS sees nothing on the SATA port. Removed the drive, installed in a USB dock, drive would not recognize.
Reinstalled his old hard drive and he's back up and running again - but bmuch more slowly.

Other Thoughts: This is the fourth SSD I've owned from OCZ. The first was an Agility 3, then a Vertex 3, and finally the Vertex that I have in my custom-built desktop (great drive!). This is the first and only recert/refurb drive I've purchased, and I expected better of OCZ. I have to double-check all dates, but I think we're barely within the warranty period - hopefully OCZ will replace this drive.
