Based on a cutting-edge new architecture, Vertex 2 Solid State Drives raise the bar once again and deliver unprecedented performance for the complete gamut of gaming and professional multimedia applications. OCZ designed the Vertex 2 to surpass the competition where it counts most, pushing the limits in both sequential and random read/write rates. With spectacular performance in 4k file writes up to 50,000 IOPS, these latest drives take productivity to the next level with over ten times the performance of the previous generation. Using the latest controller technology, Vertex 2 not only provides a faster, more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives.

With sheer performance that outpaces the competition, the Vertex 2 doesn’t lose sight of what makes an SSD the ideal storage alternative to hard drives and delivers the quality, reliability, and durability demanded by consumers that will not settle for anything but the best. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Vertex 2 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 notebook or desktop upgrade.

  • newegg Cool, quiet and durable operation OCZ Vertex 2 SSDs feature a durable yet lightweight housing, and because they have no moving parts, they are more rugged than conventional hard discs. Available in ample 40GB to 480GB capacities, the Vertex 2 is an ideal hard drive replacement for first-time SSD upgraders in need of primary laptop storage or a spacious application and OS boot drive.
  • newegg TRIM Support The OCZ Vertex 2 Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

5 out of 5 eggsA good all-around SSD for the price.

Pros: Good read and write times for SATAII.
Firmware up-datable.
Supports TRIM -with Chameleon
Works in MacBook Pro
Has a WARRANTY (at time of writing)
Has tough sounding name.
I can throw it almost 500 feet, its so light.
Comes with super sweet sticker.

Cons: It doesn't make coffee or sandwiches. Makes a horrible room mate, never picks up after itself. I tried it as an alarm clock one morning and it sucked. -Made me almost two hours late for work! Oh, and don't trust it alone with your girlfriend.

Other Thoughts: A really good SSD for the price. Made my MBP a lot snappier and apps load faster, etc...

5 out of 5 eggsInsane fast.

Pros: I'm new to the SSD game, but this experience has changed the scene for me. HD installed easily, booted up first time and made short work of a Win7 Pro fresh install. I'll never go back to regular drives once I can afford more of these with higher storage capacity.

It boots ridiculously fast (20 sec? Not even worth getting a watch out.) However, I paired it with an ASRock Z77 Pro3 mobo which has a utility called "Instantboot". The start up time is - no exaggeration - 2 seconds!!! When you shut down for the night, the computer goes through the shut down process, it immediately restarts, then shuts down a second time. Now everything is off, but when you hit that power button... BANG! Win desktop.

I picked this up at a refurbished sale here on Newegg and got a promo code in my email too. For 100GB at 58 bucks, I would have gotten another 4 of them if I had the extra cash.

Cons: 100GB goes fast! Have to be choosy about what gets on the C drive.

1 out of 5 eggsNo hibernation

Pros: Seems pretty fast, about 80 mB/s for write

Cons: Crashes often when my Asus 81U laptop comes out of hibernation (Windows 7) Sleep mode seems worse.

OCZ Support doesn't reply to my support requests from their web site. No replies at all!

Other Thoughts: This apparently is a problem with some Dells and other laptops. Stay away unless you know you laptop will work with it.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGood upgrade for older sata 1 laptop

Pros: Good price, decent size, fast, compatible.

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: Bought this to upgrade an older Fujitsu Lifebook with core2duo. Really gave her a nice boost and no compatibility issues. Highly recommended.

3 out of 5 eggsOCZ SSD Troubleshooting Continued...

Pros: I said this already

Cons: Gets stuck when detecting drives in boot up stage.

Other Thoughts: OCZ Support, I am responding to your message.
I took this SSD to work and tried on a work PC. It detects the drive fine and I can boot with it.
So is this not compatible with Asus P5B Deluxe? I'm using the BIOS that originally came with, the year 2006. What I don't get is it worked fine the first 2- 3 times with this board. Then stopped working (get stuck in bootup detecting drives). It's like the hardware has its own mind.
I'm gonna update the BIOS to the latest version today, and see what happens. I will let ya know with the update!

p.s. I gave 3 eggs since I am not sure if it's the SSD failure or incompatibility with my motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear user,

I would continue with the bios update. I just checked to see what bios support this motherboard has had and it has a very strange history. It looks like it has received 21 bios fixes/updates (wow). The odd part is the last 10 bios releases were all beta releases and nothing ever went final. Those beta releases have a wide range fixes including "system hang at POST" which is relevant here. This sort of troubleshooting is perfect for our Support Forum (link provided below). I encourage you to visit and detail this situation. Official Staff and other users can help you or we will arrange for a warranty replacement.

Thank you for your review update!

Regards,
OCZ Support

1 out of 5 eggsOCZ sucks

Pros: Speed is descent

Cons: The drive failed in two days. Gets stuck in drive detecting stage in boot up. This is junk. Now I can see why so many these OCZ models are on refurbs.

Other Thoughts: Looks like I am not the only person facing the problem with failed drive from OCZ here on Newegg.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear user,

Most refurbished drives continue to work well for a majority of users. Unfortunately, only the most enthusiastic user who is satisfied with their purchase takes the time to write a positive review. Those who have a negative experience are much more inclined to take the time to write a review and often reseller reviews reflect that reality. Your reaching out through a negative review does provide us a contact point so we work with you to resolve the situation. Please contact OCZ directly and we will arrange for a replacement and offer setup assistance.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience!

Kind Regards,
OCZ Support

5 out of 5 eggsHappy Camper!!!

Pros: Noticeable speed improvement over the spindle drives (especially in a laptop with an old 5400 RPM drive).
Inexpensive.

Cons: While it would be nice to get mounting screws, I have managed to find some spares lying around.

Some software from OCZ for cloning would have been nice - even if I had to download it.

Other Thoughts: Bought two. Installed one in an old Dell laptop: 4GB, Core2Duo, Win7Pro, SATA1 (yes, the SATA bus is saturated by this drive). The other went into a newer Dell Optiplex desktop. Obviously the laptop showed the greatest improvement - I can get an interactive desktop in about 35 seconds from a cold boot and while subjective, the system feels more responsive.

Remember, a disk is only a piece of the performance puzzle.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked as expected

Pros: This is a very inexpensive SSD

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: A reasonable purchase for such a low price. I have been using it with both windows 7 and Ubuntu linux for about 3 months without a problem.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Working great so far!

Cons: It's noticeably faster, but I expected more. Benchmark shows speed, so I am not taking an egg for my subjective observation.

Other Thoughts: 1. Download OCZ SDD tools, but firmware update not needed.
2. Cloned Win 7 using EaseUS.
3. Check alignment using AS SSD.
4. Realign using Paragon.
5. Apply web suggested SSD tweaks e.g. turn off indexing.

1 out of 5 eggsIt's a rat

Pros: good in writing date and quick in setup. run lion mac osx in only 14 minutes with it a plus.

Cons: it will not last long. run in the first one hours. then it RIP. light it up, but will not show in the bios.

Other Thoughts: If this last for more 3 months, then I would have lost my $80.00. It is wasting time & money to buy this hard drive. If this not a short life I would have give it 5 eggs. now if I have a choice this will be half an egg.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I am sorry about the failure of your drive, can you please email me with the details so we can get a replacment sorted out? Eryder at ocztechnology dot com. Thank you.
