OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTX80G 2.5" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cheap, worked well for first 2 months. Now dead, but is covered by warranty. Have to pay shipping, though.

Cons: Today, after 70 days of use, the SSD is no longer detected by the motherboard BIOS and by the Windows OS. Most of my files are in the cloud anyway, but it will take a lot of time to install all the programs, restore all passwords and all Outlook e-mail.

Other Thoughts: It was a wrong decision to buy this refurb SSD.

Pros: worked fine while it lasted....

Cons: Dead after 2 months of LIGHT use. This drive sat comfortably in my television pc, handling nothing heavier than the occasional HD video.

Avoid this company....

Pros: Extremely reliable. Super Fast. Great for gaming.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I am a Network Administrator, and I bought this as my boot drive and for my programs and games (like Guild Wars 2, Path of Exile, and Diablo III). It works absolutely great!

Pros: Speedy, great price.

Cons: None so far. Just wish it would have come with a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter

Other Thoughts: Read a lot of reviews that said their drives were DOA. Guess I lucked out. This is the second Vertex 2 SSD I own (this 80gb and a 120gb I've had for almost 2 years) and from what I've read from others, I've been VERY lucky!

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Completely worthless. Worked great for a week, shut it down (correctly) one night and never saw my data again.

Other Thoughts: The only solution for New Egg and everyone else is to stop selling these drives. If you want to refund, do it with another manufacturer

Pros: I bought 2 of these and they work like a champs...definitelly worth the money.80 gigs still sell for like $100 and over.

Pros: The green light turns on I guess, also posting in the OCZ forums got me some help, still didn't fix my problem.

Cons: What can I say, you order all your parts for your custom gaming rig, get them in and when something you were going to install your OS on is DOA then it kinda puts a cramp in your style. It happens I guess.

Also darn near inexcusable is the fact that the listing claims it comes with a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter. IT DOES NOT. This is the bare drive and the bare drive only.

Other Thoughts: The green light at the back turns on so instead of assuming that it's actually DOA I've wasted 2 full afternoons trying to figure out if it was a driver or firmware update it needed. Right now the 1-egg reviews of this product outnumber the 5 and 4 egg reviews! WHY is such an unreliable product still being sold!? If you buy this SSD then you have less than a 50% chance of actually getting a working drive and with a replacement only return policy this is a risky buy indeed. If I could I'd avoid the hassle and just pay more for a reliable drive.

I'm going to see about an RMA and hopefully I can get this replaced. (no refunds remember? golly! I sure hope my new one will work!) CAVEAT EMPTOR

Pros: Fast - Benchmarks as it should.
Quality - Feels like new.
Price - Unbeatable.

I do not feel like I bought a discount part.
They've even come with the sticker. (yay!)

Cons: "No refund" can be a sticky situation if you didn't realize it.

Not sure if this really is a con.
It's not like the refurb/open-box market is for the feint of heart,
or those easilly aggravated and without patience.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure how to even comment of the DOAs.
Seems it shouldn't be a big surprise given the circumstance.

What's important is that OCZ sounds like they will stand behind their work here. They are watching and responding to reviews for refurbished products. Many companies would care less... MUCH less...

I have had good luck so far with these.
This is my second refurbished OCZ drive,
and both came in great shape and as expected.
SSD Life Pro rates them both at 100%.
With nearly a 10 year expected lifespan,
and only the hours/GB I've put on them.

My father also ordered one of these Vertex 2 80GB,
and his was DOA.
He won't leave a bad review unless a DOA comes to replace it,
which seems the right way to look at it in my honest opinion, too.

One last thought:
It appears someone at the Egg took the copy/paste route with the product descriptions. They are not sending out the bracket adapters with this particular drive.

Why not?
Look at the picture!

It's exactly what we recieved.
If you can't tell, a bracket adapter would not fit in the package.

The OCZ Agility 2 refurb I purchased was pictured as the standard retail box, and it did come with the adapter.

Perhaps the pictures really are worth a thousand words, huh?

Cons: Everything. RMA process was painfully slow. I was shipped another dead drive.. I have bought a total of 2 of these. 1st one was DOA, sent in for a replacement. 2nd was also DOA. I just got the replacement for the 1st dead drive earlier today surprisingly.... I Did NOT work. What a shocker! that makes 3 in a row, Ive never came across such a just Bad!, piece of ...... I'ts a total waste of money not to mention all the time spent troubleshooting. DONT BUY.

Other Thoughts: I have lost all faith on OCZ, Why do you sell such a inferior product ?
trying to save a few dollars by selling "Refurbished" units that were probably never even expected to even work. the customer loss is going to to affect companys profits a whole lot more than than the cents saved on this product. that couldve easily been fixed by throwing that whole complete series in the trash. Next, hire smart employees to work there (QC dept) and actually sell items that "work" you will gain customers that way. "Spending dollars to save cents..." :-(
