The OCZ RevoDrive makes fast, faster with an innovative performance design that pushes the envelope in solid state technology and leaves hard drives in the dust. Moving beyond the bottleneck of the SATA interface, the RevoDrive features a PCIe interface to deliver superior performance. Designed for high-performance gaming PCs and workstations, the RevoDrive dominates thanks to the unique capability to run both Windows and your essential applications and games. With speeds up to 540MBps and 75,000 IOPS, this bootable PCI-Express SSD not only provides a more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. The RevoDrive can accommodate a wide range of computing environments such as video-editing and other multi-media creation and management, all while providing the superior durability and reliability of SSDs.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSD’s translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg Incredibly Fast Performance The RevoDrive family gets its edge by employing a PCIe x4 interface (1GB/s bandwidth as opposed to 3Gb/s of SATA II) and two SandForce-1200 controllers in RAID 0 design to maximize data access and bandwidth. Therefore the RevoDrive SSDs (120GB-480GB) feature up to 540 MB/s read & 480 MB/s write speeds, up to 400 MB/s sustained write speed, and incredible random write up to 75,000 IOPS (4KB Aligned).
  • newegg Bootable The OCZ RevoDrive is powered by the PCI-Express bus and OS bootable allowing for use as the primary boot drive and super-fast system startup. (Motherboard supporting boot over PCI-E is required.)

3 out of 5 eggsWorked longer than I expected

Pros: Quick enough. Serves a purpose. Cool looking. Stayed cool.

Cons: The RAID setup was a little clumsy. It wasn't THAT fast, certainly slower than what I was used to. Died after 12 months of use.

Other Thoughts: I was surprised that this lasted me just over a year as I read the reviews from other people and had my own experiences with OCZ parts failing me prematurely. I used it for a boot drive for about half of it's life and a scratch disk the other. I never stored vital data on it because I've always thought of it as a ticking time bomb. When mine went out, only one of the 2 virtual disks went out and the RAID setup was still accessible. I could have set it back up and only used half of it, but that seemed a bit pointless.

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless

Pros: Came quickly

Cons: This is the worst piece of junk I have ever purchased from this site. I purchased it under the impression it would give me a great performance increase as both Newegg and OCZ claim it would..........it doesn't.

1). It comes in, and I install it successfully into the right PCI Xpress slot. Boot to Windows 7 setup to get started, load the drivers I had downloaded earlier onto my USB flash drive, and.........BSOD!!!

2) I booted into my other Windows 7 drive on a normal HDD and set it up as a secondary drive........get to disk management, format it, and halfway through the format process......BSOD!!!

My hardware specs are compatible, so I know that isn't the problem.

I am in the process of contacting the manufacturer to see what they will do for me.......

Other Thoughts: Avoid this product! Waste of money!!

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsI wrote e review yesterday

Pros: I have it in a PCI-e 2.0 slot. I got the MB/s that I should.

In the install process, I did what the tiny booklet from the box said.

It acts like you did not install, BUT YOUR DID INSTALL!!!

The little instruction booklet actually says "after installing with Windows" to CHANGE THE BOOT PRIORITY.....That is NOT LIKE any other. From that reboot the "features" etc/ installed and Windows was set to go.

That was the short part..then the DL & Install UPDATES...sheesh!

You wind up with it set in RAID with the Sil drivers you install before WINDOWS.

LINUX.....I have no tips for you.

Cons: I do not want to get a "curse on me" going against the grain with the rest of the reviews.

HOWEVER, mine was flawless more or less.

When I boot up cold I can function immediately with AV running heavy, whick I could not do with a 1TB spinning 6.0 SATA.

That is what I wanted. The slow disc can go in a external SATA kit I guess.

Other Thoughts: The egg.

I do admire how they drop prices on me after I buy.

I GOT THE $79.99 price HOWEVER---I was a crybaby and told them I saw the IRON EGG on the one I bought.

I got the cyber coupon.
IRON EGG is good. 1st time I used it.

I will use the IRON EGG again.

" I feel like, somebody's watching me."---Hey, ever here that one?

4 out of 5 eggsI test mine in SiSoft

Pros: I was shown a SANDRA score of 516MB/sec
2 million hours Between Mean Failures caused me to believe refurbished is OK

Od sort of a WIndows 7 install.

Price much like the SATA models

Cons: I do not know.
2 million hours Between Mean Failures caused me to believe refurbished is OK

Other Thoughts: I will get more.

I do have the drive in a PCI-e 2.0 slot. So I expect the test is like the product is represented to be and do.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Anonymous,

I am sorry to read of these problems installing the RevoDrive in your system. Our Support can help you with installation, link you to the latest driver, and also check for compatibility with your system. If we cannot get the drive running properly a replacement may be necessary. Normally you can't return to Newegg without the box and all accessories, but you can return the drive to OCZ under the warranty terms. The first thing you need to do is contact our Support; mostly likely we will be able to fully resolve this without the need for a RMA. If a RMA is necessary, we will promptly set it up.

Please use the links below to contact either our Tech Support or Support Forum.

5 out of 5 eggsExperienced Users Only

Pros: I bought this from newegg when it was listed brand new and it works just fine. I would only recommend this drive to people who have experience with managing raid devices.

The Revodrive works with linux but setting it up will vary per distribution. I have a Revodrive with Windows 7 and another with Archlinux and they both work perfect.

Cons: The first Revodrive i had displayed a red fault led after only an hour of use, after i did an RMA with newegg, the second one has been working for over a year now with zero issues.

If you get a Revodrive with the red fault led just RMA it, as its hardware specific to that Revodrive only.

Other Thoughts: If you want to make backup images of this drive you will have to use imaging software that offers a WinPE version to be able to inject the drivers into the boot.wim file to be able to recognize the array in Windows. The Windows Automated Installation Kit is required.

I use Acronis True image 2013 with the plus pack which includes the WinPE version of Acronis True Image, to make backup images of the drive for Windows.

To make backup images under linux i would recommend using the dd command.

I have tested these on an Evga X79 FTW and XFX 780i with the P09 bios and it works fine with these boards.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Works great when it works.

Cons: Is not detected 2 out of 4 boots.

Other Thoughts: Dropped it into the PCIE X4 on my motherboard the first time, booted, and windows recognized it just fine and install the drivers. Then after a few restarts it would stop being detected on boot(no raid bios would show) and then of course windows would not detect it either. I then reboot once more and then it was recognized again, then it has been a guessing game as to if it would be detected or not on each boot. Almost at the point of ripping it out and shelving it for good.
