2 out of 5 eggsAn introduction to SSD's

Pros: It worked once I got the new one in(first one came missing /half/ of the drives, basically the raid bios didn't see 2 out of 4). Even was able to run windows on it straight out of my x58 bios.

Cons: This card boils down to a few people. Those that want to experience SSD's for the first time but are poor as dirt. Or those that utterly need a replacement and are poor as dirt. It's wonky, half works, and is utterly slow as dirt. BUT, it will work as a substitute briefly, if you can get one that actually works the first time around. Stuttering from the OS(especially firefox on saving a file!) are a common place, an issue that was removed with a pair of 840pro SSD's in raid-0

Other Thoughts: It's a fun little toy card, I have it set to run a minecraft server now, and that's it. Yes, the server would run faster on a good 840pro, but I'd already bought it, and figured instead of craigslisting this off to some poor sap, I'd keep it out of the reach of people that are not tech savvy in the first place, because anyone worth their salt will pass.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasted

Pros: This thing ran fast i loaded windows and like 17 programs in 2 seconds that's not a exaggeration..

I think it scored about 688 read *see con's*

Cons: ok..

It may have read at 688 but it was writing at 80 to 125 not much faster than a regular hard drive .. I tried you tube videos i read the OCZ website and i could not for the life of me get it much higher, than it just died after a few months which was a bummer because even tho it didn't write insane i enjoyed the lighting read speeds.

Other Thoughts: There i'sent enough character to explain how i got this to run windows i ran into probable 20 problems that i had to figure out myself so this drive *was* not for people that need something that's just plug and play, you will need Tec Knowledge.

5 out of 5 eggsGood product

Pros: Very fast. Good sized. Easy install. If you have worked with old RAID cards or anything that does not have drivers baked into windows you know how to install it. You need to download the drivers and put em on a thumb drive.

Cons: It is not officially supported with windows 8 or 8.1. Does not matter because windows 7 drivers work fine. Writing this on a machine booting off it running windows 8.1.

Other Thoughts: Its a EOL product, but for $100 it works fine. Just realize what your buying.

4 out of 5 eggsFast SSD with a few catches...

Pros: its got really fast read speeds, around 650-700mb/ps in Crystal Disc Mark. Not insanely difficult to install. Worked on my Gigabyte x58-UD3R rev 1.6

Cons: WAY WAY WAY slower writes than advertised like 100-150mb/ps on a good day. i did my homework so i knew this before buying but if i didn't it would have seriously annoyed me. (OCZ or newegg please change the read speeds that are advertised). Had to flash my bios to get this to work. kinda expected with a card/drive like this though.

Other Thoughts: its 4x51gb drives in raid 0 which is 204gb total space not 220gb this is kinda expected though, all hard-drives SSD or HDD seem to have this in common though, you never get the space advertised but you get close. for people who NEED fast reads i do recommend the 240gb version as it seems to get close to the advertised write/read speeds. for me though i only needed fast reads so i didn't care too much. that the writes were slow.

All in all i would give it a 4 star rating if the speed of writes was as advertised i would have given it a 5 star review. I've only owned it a week so we will see how it does in the long haul.

ps: for those who don't know the reason it gets slow writes is because it uses a type of NAND memory that cant deal well with compressible data, this is unlike all other models of this SSD that i know of.

5 out of 5 eggsFollowing up on my review...

Pros: OCZ RMA'd it for me, turned around the RMA quickly and the replacement drive works wonderfully. I've been hammering it heavily for a week with no issues (analytics database).

Cons: Time and minor hassle of an RMA, but it was a refurb and you can't beat the price.

2 out of 5 eggsnot a good time

Pros: its a nice drive looks great the lights are a big help to let you know there is a problem with it when the first one did work it was really really fast to bad it did not last

Cons: it is Refurbished went though 2 of them in 3 weeks it showed all four drive . then started to load win 7 and it froze up rebooted and when it got to the raid window it showed only 3 drives. started to see if I could load on to the 3 and it locked up only 1 drive showed up now so I am giving up on the refurb

Other Thoughts: new egg was great at sending the first one back had to RMA it sent me a return label and the 2nd one was easy to send back again they sent me a return label and I ask if I could get store credit they gave it to me 5 eggs for new egg this is why I like to use the egg

1 out of 5 eggs153GB only Showing

Pros: Looks Cool and Hopefully will be fast.

Cons: Mine is only showing 3 Drives of 51GB each. 153GB is not the advertised 220GB.
I don't have a problem with it showing 220GB in the RAID controller and then windows only showing 200GBs after it has been formatted or something like that... There is size that is given away to formatting... But to not show anywhere close to the selling number is just not good for business.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to try and update the firmware and see if all 4 51GB drives show... but I'm not going to get my hopes up... First 2 drives show up immediately... The third stalls to read and 4th is just missing and gone.

2 out of 5 eggsNot So Hot

Pros: Quick delivery, Nice Box, Great price

Cons: Not for Win8: OCZ Support states RevoDrive X2 is EOL (End of Life product) no new drivers will be developed for Windows 8 and Linux is not supported. Windows 7 runs but I am having problems. The drive is 4 X 51 GB RAID 0 - Windows sees 204 GB not the 220 advertised.
I am using a ASUS Rampage IV Extreme mobo with an I7 Extreme uP = problem with this RevoDrive X2. Consult OCZ support forums before buying.

Other Thoughts: I own a 240 GB OCZ RevoDrive 3 X2 and it is wonderful !! However, it costs 4X more. I am going to try it with my Extreme mobo & uP and see what happens.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Steve,

If you require any assistance or advice please contact our Support Forum. We will gladly help however possible.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!
