Building off the award-winning RevoDrive, the OCZ RevoDrive X2 takes performance to new heights while doubling the storage capacity for the ultimate PC experience. With a proprietary four-way RAID 0 design, the RevoDrive X2 enhances data access and maximizes bandwidth with superior data rates up to 740MB/s and up to 120,000 IOPS, nearly triple the throughput of other consumer SSDs. Unlike competing PCIe solutions, the RevoDrive X2 is bootable ensuring quicker boot-ups in addition to snappier application loading and file management. The RevoDrive X2 can accommodate a wide range of computing environments  such as video-editing and other multi-media creation and management, all while providing the superior durability and reliability of SSDs.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSD’s translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg Incredibly Fast Performance The RevoDrive X2 family gets its edge by employing a PCIe x4 interface (1GB/s bandwidth as opposed to 3Gb/s of SATA II) and four SandForce-1200 controllers in RAID 0 design to maximize data access and bandwidth. Therefore the RevoDrive X2 SSDs (240GB-960GB) feature up to 740 MB/s read & 720 MB/s write speeds, up to 600 MB/s sustained write speed, and incredible random write up to 120,000 IOPS (4KB Aligned).
  • newegg Bootable The RevoDrive X2 is powered by the PCI-Express bus and OS bootable allowing for use as the primary boot drive and super-fast system startup. (Motherboard supporting boot over PCI-E is required.)

1 out of 5 eggsWill never buy OCZ again...

Pros: Was very fast while it worked. Excited to use one of my PCIE slots.

Cons: Died after about 11 months. Of course the warranty was only good for 6 months. OCZ refused to replace it. THIS IS MY SECOND SSD DRIVE, BOTH FROM OCZ, BOTH DEAD. I have HDDs from 10+ years ago that still work flawlessly!!! Save your money, don't buy from OCZ.

Other Thoughts: The card still boots up with 2 of the 4 "drives" of the "RAID". I guess I could still use 120gb of this card until the rest of it dies. My next SSD will NOT be OCZ. Nothing of mine will ever be OCZ even if OCZ buys every other hardware company out there. Never again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Consumer,

What you have been told about the *REFURBISHED* RevoDrive is correct - it carries a 180-day limited warranty. Current *NEW* products have much longer warranty periods; 3-5 year warranty periods depending on the product. We cannot replace a product that is outside the applicable warranty period.

It does appear the drive is not "dead" based on the details of your review. If the product is still detected and booting you may be able to enter the drive's RAID utility and break then rebuild in conjunction with re-flashing the firmware. Below this response I will leave a link to our Firmware Updates page that contains the PC Bootable Toolbox that can be used to update/re-flash your RevoDrive. I will also leave a link our Support Forum where we can offer additional troubleshooting or guidance.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience!

Kind Regards,

OCZ Storage Solutions Support

1 out of 5 eggsgreat while it worked

Pros: Easy to install.
Clean look.
No fussing around with cables.
When the drive was operational it worked very well.

Cons: Started dying around the 6 month mark, completely dead after 7.5 months. After speaking with OCZ support, the drive only comes with a 6 month warranty. Nothing wrong with a 6 month warranty as long as you're not advertising 2 million hours of usage out of it. Very misleading. I was under the impression the Toshiba acquisition was supposed to help the OCZ brand, this does not seem to be the case.

Other Thoughts: Save your headaches and purchase from a reliable company like Samsung or Corsair.

2 out of 5 eggsNot working as expected

Pros: Runs faster than my SSD SATA drive. Improves the boot time by a couple of seconds

Cons: Not compatible with all motherboards.
Doesn't work well with other hard drives.
Not Linux friendly.
No new firmware in a while.

Other Thoughts: I got this because of thought I would see a speed improvement over SATA SSD's but the speed improvement was not very significant. The hassle of installing the drive and maintaining is not worth it. The device consists of 4 55G hard drives which can form a 220G drive in RAID 0. The problem is when I create the RAID, I cannot install an OS on it with other drives connected. Had to disconnect all my SATA drives and then install the OS. I stopped using it as an OS drive after I had to re-image my machine. The added speed is not worth the effort. I wouldn't recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Works great, quick, just as expected. Faster than my single SSD. Works fine in a x16 pci-e slot, but my motherboard lowers all my slots to x8 when more than one card installed.

Cons: Not a con with the card, but some motherboards may lower your gpu slot from x16 to x8, this doesn't really impact performance at all with anything up to a GTX Titan though.

1 out of 5 eggsHighly Disappointed

Pros: N/A

Cons: DOA out of box. Poor customer service from OCZ. They don't support this product anymore since it is an old model. I submitting a ticket to get help on this unit (just needed some simple question answered) and still haven't heard anything back. The only help I have received was on the forums.

Other Thoughts: I would like a refund from newegg but this product is only available for replacement. The only reason I want a refund instead of a replacement is that OCZ doesn't support this item anymore. I will put in an rma for a replacement and hopefully it works. If the replacement works I guess that is okay. I don't think newegg should be selling a product (even refurbished) that is no longer supported by the manufacturer.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Consumer,

OCZ continues support for all products, including the RevoDrive, even if it has reached legacy (EOL) status. If you have initiated a support ticket we will answer all questions within 24-48 hours excluding weekends/holidays. Our Support Forum is monitored by Official OCZ Staff around the clock. If your forum question has gone unresolved please add a post to your thread noting the problem is unresolved. The forum staff will assess the current situation and advise further.

I would like to make sure this gets resolved and investigate if our support has "dropped the ball" here. Please send me an email using the email address below and I will make sure you are taken care of.

On behalf of OCZ, I apologize for the inconvenience!

Kind Regards,

OCZ Technology Group

5 out of 5 eggsfast after firmware update

Pros: worked on my asrock 970 extreme3. Bios 1.60 recognized it at boot.
windows 7 installation was straightforward (need driver from ocz for windows install to recognize the drive)
Noticeably faster after updating the firmware on the drives from 1.35 to 1.37
Ubuntu 13.10 Install cd notices 240gb volume, haven't installed it yet, but if the should work with linux if the ubuntu install environment sees it.

Cons: didnt come with most recent firmware

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value for money

Pros: Exceptionally fast. If you have a spare PCIe slot this is the way to go to add fast storage to a machine. Driver installation was very easy. Benchmarks over 700MB/sec reads on my machine. Writes are slower but this is to be expected with this tech.

Cons: None that I encountered.

2 out of 5 eggsold technology

Pros: Configurable BIOS for the RAID config on the card (it ships w/ RAID 0). Blinky blue lights to show power/activity

Cons: Its old tech, and you absolutely need a dedicated PCI-E x4 slot (or an x16 with at least 4 lanes available) to make this worth the investment. Even then, at max throughput, this will get smoked by a pair of modern SATA III SSDs (that is, made within the last 2 year) in a RAID 0 config.

Other Thoughts: I had this in a system running a pair of OCZ Vertex 3 drives in RAID 0 - peak performance eclipsed the 1000 MBps mark which is over 20% faster than the theoretical limits the RevoDrive can attain. A low-profile design would be nice as well, but not taking any eggs for that. Do yourself a favor and just get a pair of SATA III SSDs and RAID them. If this were written 2+ years ago I probably would have given this a couple more stars...

1 out of 5 eggsWindows hangs... Orphaned product--Painful, time-consuming, just say NO

Pros: Fast--when it's not crashing. WEI 8.3 in my system.

Cons: Windows 8 hangs randomly. Runs for 30 seconds or 2 hours, but then hangs. Max uptime is 2-3 hours.
OCZ's SSD toolkits don't support the RevoDrive X2 model (they support RevoDrive3 model). Orphaned product.

Other Thoughts: Board: Gigabyte F2A85XM-D3H, AMD A10 CPU & integrated Radeon graphics.
I tried all the different settings, combination of BIOS settings, Windows settings, you name it. No joy.
There's a bit of initial work to get Windows loaded onto it, e.g., loading its driver as oart of the Windows install.
It took about 4 or 5 tries to get Windows 8 to install successfully, i.e., without hanging in a different random place. Then trying to get Windows updates downloaded and installed without hanging took several days to work through.
I found settings that initially appeared to work, but still, eventually, those random Windows hangs would be back within less than an hour in most cases.
The only thing I could do reliably was watch DVD videos on it (Win 8 Media Center edition). Something about that activity allows it to work without freezing Windows
Tried all kinds of settings options (BIOS, Windows, Services, etc.) from OCZ support message board. No luck.
Sure, I know Windows 8 isn't "officially" supported for this drive, but apparently if you have the right motherboard it will work. I don't think my results in Win7 would be any different, based on posts I read.
At this point, I don't know if the issue is possibly a bad drive--I'd RMA it for another, but the result could be the same.

1 out of 5 eggsFun (not) while it lasted

Pros: Fast for a while

Cons: BIOS Memory hog
Random freezes when "working"
Random boots (without BSOD, straight to power reset)
Lost one of the "drives" on day 4

Other Thoughts: Asus P6T (x58)
i7-920 12 GB (3x4)
DDR3 Crucial RealSSD, 120GB (on Intel on-board)
2 Spinners (on Intel on-board)
1 Optical (on Intel on-board)

Where to start...
Right out of the box there was the issue of causing my other raid controller to not be seen at boot by the BIOS. This seems to be an issue with the size of the memory space used by the SiliconImage controller in the motherboard memory space (Google it, Tom's HW has a explanation). Problem overcome by PULLING THE BATTERY from the motherboard then reconfiguring my onboard Intel controller to ACHI. Now all the drives appear.

Next issue was that imaging my Win8 install won't boot because of not having the correct driver INSIDE the image which causes blue screen at boot, even in safe mode. So I had to install Win7 because my Win8 is upgrade only... Then got Win8 installed and updated then broke it trying to re-image my old SSD with a backup of my old install.

Then Win7 won't install – BSOD Replace Video Card – Fixes BSOD (or did it?)

Win8 back up and running... still random freezes and "Rate my Performance" causes reboot (straight to power off again NO BSOD). The log at \windows\performance\winsat shows last action is a video test over and over.

Try to under-clock video card 10% no joy, 20% no joy, 30% What the Heck...

Drive error - no boot. Only 3 55 gig drives in RAID at boot. Boot to OCZ tools, only 3 of 4 appear there. Cold boot, no change. Shut down to cool 30 minutes, no change. Junk Junk Junk. I can't wait to get this Piece of Scrap out of my box and put my old video card back in. I bet it is fine. This is an interesting toy, but I'll be loathe to trust a replacement. I WILL however partition it such that I can rebuild the array with 3 drives and reinstall from backup image, long enough to get it back onto a REAL SSD. Not being able to support my on-board Intel controller in RAID mode is unfortunate too, though I had taken apart my old array of spinners some months ago. I never bothered to reconfigure the controller to ACHI after that. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'll update after the RMA process and let everyone know how that process went.

If you buy one plan on:
1. Reset BOIS memory and use a 2nd RAID with caution as most boards don't have enough memory space for this one and another.

2. Plan on a clean install. Perhaps if I had been able to boot my old install prior to the image it would have had the driver in-place so that when it showed up as the boot drive it could have survived. I sure couldn't get it to update the driver after being imaged into the array.

3. Partition the array at less than 75% for your boot partition so that if needed you can rebuild the array with 3 of 4 drives so that when 1 goes down you can rebuild with 3 and still fit your image onto it. This may also help the GC to keep performance at peek if you leave the 25% unallocated.
