OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTX60G.RF 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: For 31 bucks AR, this gives new life to an aging desktop. Installation was simple, Windows 7 installed without issues. Boot time is about 17 Sec. Read times are about 235. Came with the latest firmware. Packaging was great.

Cons: Write time are lagging, about 100, well below posted speeds.

Other Thoughts: This is a dual core AMD 5600+ CPU, with 2 gigs of DDR2 PC6400 RAM. It had XP, and I was ready to give it away. Adding this SSD and installing Win7 added another 2 years of life. This is not my primary desktop, and is used for surfing and remote connection to work.

Number one rule when upgrading to a SSD, disconnect your current HDD when firing up this SSD for the first time and installing the OS. Once the OS is installed, then reconnect your HDD.

Pros: Low price per gig, will get you on the fast loading SSD train.

Cons: Refurb, short warranty

Other Thoughts: Ran OCZ's SSD toolbox for fun, drive came with latest firmware. Ran secure erase utility because of others issues with speed (I never verified one way or another, just easy way to avoid any issues). Plug and play.

Pros: Was leery of the refurb deal, so I bought the warranty for an extra $10-20 or so. Didn't need to, this has been a solid drive for a 24/7 minecraft server for more than a month now.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Low power for the OS drive compared to rotating media, but an always on SSD for minecraft will wear down the life of the drive appreciably faster than a hard drive. I just don't care, the drive was so cheap that the performance is worth it. I'll get a few years from the refurbished drive before I build a more comprehensive home server.

Pros: Its fast and very inexpensive. I've been running Windows 8 now for over a month on it, no problems. Light weight and cool design. It's not as fast as other SSD's out there but for the money its a good buy. I have not bench marked it yet so I don't have much more to share. Loads up quick, I can boot my entire system (Windows 8) with external drives, ready to go, in about 10 or so seconds.

Cons: Did not come with screws or a sata cable.

Other Thoughts: Once you get one you'll instantly want another. 60gb is not alot to play with.

Pros: Wrote 1's across it right away, after reading the sole review here, but I apparently corrupted the mbr, as my install media couldn't see the sad in my system. Fixed the boot record, an thereafter all went smoothly. I haven't run any disk diagnostics, but the windows performance rating is up by nearly 2 full points and everything seems zipper.
Be sure to go into the registry and make a larger drive the default install location.

Cons: 60 gigs was large 15 years ago, right?

Pros: Packaged well, couldn't even tell it was refurbished except for the sticker on the box. Full SSD health and runs great, no problems. I am using this in a SATA II build from 2007, very nice increase in speed and for $40 you can't go wrong.

Cons: 6 month warranty is a small drawback

Pros: Cheap and with a little work, reasonably fast.

Cons: Got four and was about to send them all back for their totally inconsistent performance. Had some that were doing as badly as 35 Mb/s sustained read. All the drives had very spiky write times in sustained testing. Most varied from about 40Mb/s to 160 with an average around 60. Wrote 1s (the null in SSDs) across the entire disk and tested again. Came back with solid ~160Mb/s reads for all but the smallest test block size and the write speeds were still a bit spiky but were averaging 125. One disk was still failing integrity tests with Drive Genius though so it is getting sent back. Using these in terminals around the office with no local files stored so I don't really care if they eat it otherwise the price difference wouldn't be enough to make them worth the potential data loss.
