Vertex 2 Solid State Drives deliver unprecedented performance for the complete gamut of gaming and professional multimedia applications. OCZ designed the Vertex 2 to surpass the competition where it counts most, pushing the limits in both sequential and random read/write rates. With 4k file writes up to 50,000 IOPS, these drives take productivity to the next level with over ten times the performance of the previous generation. Using high-performance controller technology, Vertex 2 not only provides a faster, more responsive PC experience, but also promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy-efficient conditions than traditional mechanical hard drives.

The Vertex 2 makes an SSD the ideal storage alternative to hard drives, and delivers the quality, reliability, and durability demanded by consumers. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Vertex 2 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms, and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan.

OCZ Vertex 2 SSDs are available in 40GB to 480GB.

  • newegg Cool, quiet and durable operation OCZ Vertex 2 SSDs feature a durable yet lightweight housing, and because they have no moving parts, they are more rugged than conventional hard discs. Available in ample 40GB to 480GB capacities, the Vertex 2 is an ideal hard drive replacement for first-time SSD upgraders.
  • newegg TRIM Support The OCZ Vertex 2 Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

1 out of 5 eggsthe last refurbished item I'll buy

Pros: Good speed and cheap at the time.

Cons: First one was a DOA. Had to pay to ship it back to Newegg to have it replaced. 2nd one worked great as an upgrade for and old Dell at home. Unfortunately, it died in less than 2 years of light use; no warnings. Computer wouldn't even see it anymore. Tried different cables and even different computer, nothing. My Torx drive have been running for 4 years with no issues.

Other Thoughts: spend a few bucks more and get a new drive.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty good!

Pros: - Cheap
- Upgrades Older SATA II PCs/Laptops with additional speed, especially when no other upgrades may be possible.
- Low power usage, quiet.
- Deducts weight from laptop/PC
- Seems to be very reliable. I've had 0 problems.
- Easy installation (it's a hard drive)

Cons: - Only SATA 2
- Only 60 Gigs (But big enough for a fast operating system install)

Other Thoughts: All around, if you're not looking to spend a lot of money and need to speed up an older computer.. this may be a great feasible option. I upgraded a Dell laptop that I had and it boot under 10 seconds easily.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat refurb

Pros: Ordered 6 drives. All working fine. I previously ordered two 50gb a month ago, both working fine. Time will tell on all these, but I suspect it was a bad batch of controllers.
Great to revive older systems.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Worth the money!

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 2 boots

Pros: kinda fast boot when it did boot

Cons: windows would ntot install to it at first, i had to mess around with the SATA connector settings for the sata 3 bus for windows to even install on it.

when i finally got windows installed, it booted a few times, then was no longer found as a boot-able device.

i was warned to stay away from the SANDforce controller. guess i should have listened.

Other Thoughts: skip this one, spend the extra money and get a Samsung SSD, so much better quality!!!

1 out of 5 eggsDissappears from Bios on reboot

Pros: Seems fast and lacks bad sectors

Cons: This OCZ SSD disappears from the bios on multiple machines. A potential workaround is to add another device to the SATA bus.

Other Thoughts: Should have paid a few more bucks to get more than the 180 day warranty. Live and learn.

5 out of 5 eggsNice SSD

Pros: It works and it came with a sticker!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I installed windows 7 on it, then I decided there probably isn't enough space on this for a full install. Apparently microsoft can't do anything right if you symlink your users folder. Oh well, I'll use this as a linux toy.

4 out of 5 eggsnot as fast as i hoped for

Pros: Cost is low, speed is good for sata 2

Cons: like I said not sata 3 so slower than sata 3 ssd drives

Other Thoughts: For the price its not a bad deal just wish it was sata 3, on a separate note, this does NOT come with a mounting bracket OR any screws so you better have the equipment you need to install this sucker

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Powered on for 6 straight months now and still working perfectly!

Transfer speeds are more than sufficient for my HTPC.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to give my HTPC a little boost and it's working perfectly. Highly recommend this for an HTPC (combined with a larger capacity drive, of course)

5 out of 5 eggsNice and cheap

Pros: I use this as a boot drive and it works like a charm. My boot time is around 10-15 seconds. I was looking for a cheap boot drive and I found it. It hasn't given me any issues so far.

Cons: None for me, I'm a happy customer

5 out of 5 eggsEverything I'd hoped

Pros: OCZ 6 month warranty, factory packaging, reasonably priced, speeds are as advertised.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Used this as a replacement for a client's dead Seagate Momentus 5400.3, 160GB OEM HDD, out of a Acer Aspire One AOD255E Netbook, with regular use on it. Space wasn't as much of an issue as speed for this less than stellar Netbook, and WOW, does the Vertex 2 deliver! Installing Windows 7 Starter back onto the Netbook was a breeze, and the SSD is responsive with no issues, unless & until the CPU is stressed for programs. The AOD255E is severely bottle-necked by Atom N450 processor, but the Vertex 2 shines with a 7.7 score on WEI. The client loves the next-to-instant speed on almost everything now. Temps are at 30°C constantly, benchmarks fall right into the advertised ranges posted on the Specs. Thanks, OCZ & Newegg. Another happy customer.
