2 out of 5 eggsIt's dead Jim

This review is from: OCZ Vertex 450 Series VTX450-25SAT3-256G 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It was fast, very fast.

Cons: It died too soon.

Other Thoughts: Prior to the death it didn't show any signs or symptoms until today it just wouldn't work. No crashes, no blue screens, nada. I just rebooted and suddenly there was no OS to boot. I tried changing cables and and nada. It just wouldn't be recognized by the motherboard. I'm very sad and am considering moving away from SSD.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsWorked Great until it died...

This review is from: OCZ Vertex 450 Series VTX450-25SAT3-256G 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This thing was fast, big space, and ran out of the box with no firmware updates like some said. I was in the clear, or so I thought. Just last night nearly 9 months later, the thing died on me. No windows OS detected, cant even reinstall and the disk is a brick. No warning due to weird behavior or anything. I have a back up, but I need to replace this thing. It's way past the RMA time and I am eating the whole cost. Very bummed. I also want to note, that this is the first piece of hardware I have ever owned to fail. Just straight up die on me. I take excellent care of everything and have been building PCs for years. Count me as lucky, I may have just gotten my first run of bad luck, but just to be safe, I won't be buying OCZ tech anymore. Sorry OCZ...

Cons: Didn't stand the test of time.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsDo NOT purchase!!!

This review is from: OCZ Vertex 450 Series VTX450-25SAT3-256G 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: None.

Cons: - SSD will NOT work out of the box. You will need to install a firmware update, and hope that the drive will last you more than a couple months before dying for good.

- Customer support at OCZ is uesless.

- Want to RMA your broken drive? Well enjoy having to cover the shipping fee.

Other Thoughts: I see why OCZ filed for bankruptcy in 2013. I will no longer support this company or its products. I ended up purchasing a WD VelociRaptor.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

This review is from: OCZ Vertex 450 Series VTX450-25SAT3-256G 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: None

Cons: Doesn't work

Other Thoughts: Originally purchased in September of 2013. My 2 TB main drive was on it's last legs, so I decided to upgrade my build with a SSD. After I received the drive, I proceeded to perform a clean install of Windows 7 x64 bit. After the first day or so, the BSOD's and crashes started. I thought it may have been an error on my end, so I clean installed it again... same issues. I contacted OCZ, and they were very unhelpful. I contacted Newegg and let them know about the issues, and they worked with OCZ to get the problem fixed. I was sent a new drive, and I clean installed Windows once more. It worked for about a week, before I noticed all of the issues starting up again (BSOD, crashes, etc). I couldn't believe that I was sent another faulty drive, so I thought it may have been other issues. Due to work/family constraints, I wasn't able to have it looked at for several months, so my rig was nothing more than a paper weight for about 8 months. I was able to finally get it into a repair shop, as I had no idea what was wrong with it anymore (crash logs weren't recording, tests showed everything was working, I installed new RAM, new Graphics card etc). The repair shop was able to confirm that the drive was faulty, and that all the hardware in my rig was healthy. Really OCZ? Two faulty drives? I'm going to contact OCZ once more, so I will post an update after the issue has been resolved. For now though, buyer beware! I do not recommend this SSD!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Consumer,

Please contact us about the issues you are experiencing. I am confident we can resolve the problems. Usually problems with multiple drives on the same system are related to another problem component. We will work to determine what is causing the issue and if it is the drive we will make the necessary RMA arrangements in accordance with the OCZ Storage Solutions Limited Warranty.

On behalf of OCZ, I apologize for the difficulties you have endured!

Kind Regards,

3 out of 5 eggsOCZ was fast with the RMA

This review is from: OCZ Vertex 450 Series VTX450-25SAT3-256G 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Great when it works.

Cons: Is not recognized by the BIOS on boot. Sometimes disappears from the system while in use. Cannot be relied on.

Other Thoughts: I contacted OCZ directly as I was outside of the 30 day Newegg return period. The asked me to mail them the unit and a copy of my NewEgg Invoice. I should receive the new unit next week. No hassles.

I like that there is a OCZ representative reading the reviews on this site. For me, It goes a long way toward increasing my confidence in the brand.

1 out of 5 eggsSometimes Works

This review is from: OCZ Vertex 450 Series VTX450-25SAT3-256G 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast When it works.

Cons: Not reliable as a Primary Drive.

Other Thoughts: Wanted to use this as a primary Boot Drive. For some reason, the drive would disappear from the system. This would cause my computer to simply Freeze. Multiple restarts would eventually initialize it and then the computer would Boot. I updated my MB firmware, Drive Firmware (currently 2.0), and made sure it was not the SATA cables. I don't know if the Powersource is causing this or not, but it works fine with my other HD's. I shelved it until after school (45 days later ) and now I don't have the option of retuning or replacing it because it is longer than 30 days. I love the idea of a Solid State Drive, I just with my first experience would had gone differently.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Consumer,

Please contact me directly about this issue. I may be able to correct this without the need for an exchange but can certainly arrange that if necessary. When contacting me please provide as much information about your system as possible, such as motherboard/system model and BIOS version, installed OS, and power supply model.

1 out of 5 eggsBad support

This review is from: OCZ Vertex 450 Series VTX450-25SAT3-256G 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: the price was good for the size

Cons: I had one go dead on me. I tried to contact OCZ support because it was outside the returns period for Newegg. OCZ kept asking dumb questions about what was wrong when I was very technical and specific about the issue. My conclusion is that they are making this return a pain because they want me to get frustrated and go away.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

Our Technical Support should always offer reasonable troubleshooting. From experience, many issues experienced are easily correctable and are not the fault of the storage device. However, our Technical Support process should always be directly aligned with information given and should not be redundant. Our goal is to provide you the fastest solution possible and often that involves correcting the issue remotely in lieu of a RMA. If you have developed the impression that our support was consciously trying to make the RMA request painful then we have failed to properly understand or communicate. For that I apologize.

I would appreciate the opportunity to review your support case and history. If your situation is still in need of a resolution I can definitely assist with that. At the very least I can review our communication and suggest improvements to our internal process if necessary.

You may contact me using the email address below. Please include your ticket or RMA number in your correspondence.

Kind Regards,

Robert
