5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Over a Year no issues at all. Decent Reads/Writes... Couldnt be happier :)

Cons: None major, but i had originally bought this for an older (core2duo) mac laptop, and the firmware on the laptop did not fully support this ssd, so it constantly switched from 1.5Gb/s to 3.0Gb/s...again not the drives fault in anyway...

4 out of 5 eggsFast Drive

Pros: Ordered two of these drives back in January 2014. One is still running strong but the 2nd one died after two months (see cons below).

Cons: The 2nd one died after about two months. It was replaced by the 90 days warranty with the same agility 3 refurbished but this new replaced drive died after about 6 weeks (45 retired blocks - the maximum threshold is 3). This 2nd one was replaced one more time by OCZ with a brand new Vertex 3. So far it was been running for about 5 days and since it is brand new hopefully it will last 

Other Thoughts: I got both of these drives pretty cheap and I knew they were refurbished. OCZ support was good and didn’t give me a hard time to replace the defective drives. If the last new one fails I will update this review because it is brand new and I don’t expect it to fail anytime soon.

5 out of 5 eggs2 Month Review

Pros: My 2nd Refurbished OCZ performs flawlessly so far, much like the now 3 month old 1st drive (1st was a refurbished Vertex 2 100 GB, reviewed early Dec. 2013.) Great buy at less than $0.50 per GB.

This drive seemed to perform faster than a NEW Kingston V300 bought later.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I was lucky with the 2 refurbished drives from OCZ so far., but I suggest everyone read up on preparing the SSDs before installation. Takes a little more work than regular mechanical hard drives in my research.

Per some of the good advice on the web:

1. Set drive mode to AHCI in Bios to get the best results.
2. Make sure you have the latest firmware for the drive, or update it if you do not.
3. Align the partition(s) to make sure it performs optimally (I used Minitool - another no cost software. I also used it to clone from HD.).

Some adjustments may need to be made via Windows Disk Administrator if drive not seen in Windows after cloning - assign drive letter, format, etc.) After that, both my SSDs seem to be troublefree. Again, read up on SSDs before doing anything further.

Good luck!

5 out of 5 eggsThe Solid State Life

Pros: My laptop has dual graphics cards (1.5GB video), but the 500GB 5400RPM HDD was holding it back. Popped this baby in as the OS/Game drive combined with a 1TB 7200 HDD for storage (expansion bay) and WOW. ENORMOUS difference in fluidity and responsiveness. Got mine refurbished as NewEgg and OCZ stand by their refurbished products with pretty solid warranty to make sure it's going to be working. Warranty extension is only a few bucks too!

Additional highlights:
-No stability issues
-Firmware was already up-to-date!
-Performance measures to what is rated
-Refurbished case is pristine brand new-not a scratch!
-Solid firm packaging, not an anti-static bagged drive bouncing around in a bubble wrap envelope.

Cons: None that I can think of!

Other Thoughts: Be sure to download and burn OCZ's SSD management tool. Boots up to a Linux OS. Erase and Update the firmware to the latest (mine was already up to date!). The latest firmware gives the best performance and stability.

Going from HDD to SSD gives you a new kind of laptop experience..welcome to the solid state life.

1 out of 5 eggsBuy with confidence?

Pros: The drive is/ was fast and came with a cool sticker, what else do you need from a SSD.

Cons: No box, case hardware for a 3.5 inch drive bay, or cords for power and data; this is expected for a discount product and why I though I was paying less.

File corruption galore; had it error out during windows installation; while loading windows; and while attempting to recover data.

Upon attempting a refund to Newegg I discovered I can't and can only replace the unit, which I want nothing else to do with. On top of that, they are making me pay over 10$ to ship the dead drive back to them. Really?

Other Thoughts: Bottom line is this: A 'faulty model', which you will be stuck with, and pay more than you bargained for.

3 out of 5 eggsMoney Saver but use caution

Pros: -- very cost efficient
-- fast

Cons: Drive didn't have blank S.M.A.R.T data... I checked just to see and it was showing a "pre-failure" state on a couple stats and had errors on the drive.
I didn't actually have any problems out of the drive, but I feel the drive should have been reset when it was refurbished. I told my client I couldn't guarantee how long this drive was going to last.

Other Thoughts: It's always better to buy something new than used/refurbished but if you're hoping to save money and willing to take a little gamble, go for it. If able, check to see if other people are having more problems. This drive has been running for a little over a month and is still stable.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear gbushprogs,

Thank you for your purchase.

What you have observed in the drive SMART data is normal. When you see "old age" or "pre-fail" that is a description of the TYPE of attribute not an evaluation or label placed on the data that is output. It is the value or raw data that is of interest (depending on ID/Attribute) when viewing drive SMART data to assess condition. We would be more than happy to assist you or your client with assessment of the Agility 3 SMART data. Please feel free to contact us using the link below and we will help however possible!

Thank you for sharing your review!

Kind Regards,

OCZ Support

1 out of 5 eggs***FAILED***

Pros: Very fast

Cons: This second drive failed after 1 month, the first drive which OCZ had replaced with this one failed after two months. I see a pattern here. I also took a REALLY close look at the circuit board and I see pitting on the materials that this is made of. I suspect OCZ is passing damaged drives off as refurbished.

Other Thoughts: Why is the failure rate for OCZ refurbished drive so high compared to other companies. From what I have observed under the microscope with MY eyes looking at THIS circuit board leads me to believe that OCZ is taking new products which have been damaged during manufacture or otherwise then OCZ is selling these damaged drives as refurbished and after six months no more warranty no more problem for OCZ.
