5 out of 5 eggsUpdate...

Pros: RMA'd a set of this ram since it would not POST at 1066 FSB. The feedback from the mfg. helped me decide to send the initial set back with RMA. The replacement set was sent out promptly and this set works great at 1066!

Cons: None!

5 out of 5 eggsGood Quallity DDR!

Pros: Excellent timings and 2.5 CAS latency! Memory was instantly recognized. I found the price for old DRAM very reasonable also. So much so that I got two of these kits for a full 4Gb set!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I needed these for a retro build I did just for fun. I installed them into an ASRock Conroe 865pe board and running XP Pro, along with an AGP 7800GS video card and an e4600 overclocked to 3Ghz. That's right: an 865 chipset running a Core2 chip, with AGP and rocking Windows XP Pro! It's a fun side project.

5 out of 5 eggsG.Skill Memory

Pros: Does what it's supposed to do at an affordable price. Breathed new life into an older box.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have no problems with G.Skill. A company that came on the scene since I last paid a lot of attention to new products. Good memory, decent price.

3 out of 5 eggsMeets specs

Pros: DDR400 works fine with 800 FSB.

Cons: Won't post with 1066 FSB.

Other Thoughts: Bought a set of this exact ram a couple of years ago and it worked fine with a Core 2 Duo 1066 FSB Processor. This set won't. But it does what the specs say...

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Glad to hear the memory is working well. It should work with both 800MHz and 1066MHz CPUs. Check that you have the latest BIOS, and the memory settings are correct. Should you need any assistance, don't hesitate to contact the G.Skill technical support team. They will make sure the G.Skill RAM is working fast and stable in your computer.

5 out of 5 eggsbest ram for my system

Pros: 2.5 cas latency, and the best, and most ram my old system can use. the upgrade did everything and more that I was expecting from it.

Cons: no cons... for anyone that has cons.... you need to do some homework before you buy. just because you are on newegg, does not make you a computer tech.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as it should

Pros: Works without a problem.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you think getting this product is going to make your old computer noticeable faster you will probably be disappointed.

If you are realistic and just expect your computer to work a little better, then you will be happy.

Lets face it, what ever computer this ram is going in is old and can't compare with today's new machines.

3 out of 5 eggsgood, but not enough

Pros: i have more ram now

Cons: it's too late, any motherboard that this is the best ram you can buy it for isn't going to start 'snapping to' because you gave it more ram. there's no combination of 'top proc' and 'more ram' that will really increase performance for your box. just go buy a new proc/mobo/ram.

Other Thoughts: i'm running it with a

model name : AMD Sempron(tm) 2200+
cpu MHz : 1500.562
cache size : 256 KB

on a gentoo linux system compiled with the best optimization flags i could come up with. *shrug* i might tweak them slightly better, I might snag a proc slightly higher, but the ram didn't give a dramatic increase, so the other two directions aren't going to give much of a performance boost either. The mobo has only 2 slots, not 4, so ymmv there, but i still wouldn't expect much out of it.

additional:
i went from 512 to 2 gig in this upgrade and the lack of speed in that dramatic increase is what convinces me that thered be a similar lack in increase on 1 gig to 4. maybee if your mobo had SUPER high edge bus speed.... which is unlikely considering the era this would be the top end ram for.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you are not fully satisfied with this RAM. Having more memory installed does not directly affect speed or give the system a performance 'boost'. Increasing capacity allows you to operate more programs and processes at a time; so let's say with 2GB you could run 4 programs before the computer started lagging and slowing down, by doubling to 4GB, theoretically speaking you can run 8 programs before a slow down. For an older system, this can be extremely beneficial. Many internet tasks and open windows can cause an older system to severely slow down, but with additional RAM, even streaming videos online should not be an issue. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

4 out of 5 eggsAs advertised, no more no less

Pros: Sure, you can spend a lot of time trying to find 'working' used CL2 or 2.5 DDR memory but those memory modules are being sold because they are worn out and have issues after years of use and abuse (don't ask me how I know). New/quality CL3 DDR is getting harder to find so it's a very good thing G. Skill is still in the game. I'd never tried anything from G. Skill so I've been pleasantly surprised with how solidly this kit works at stock speeds. After a few weeks of break-in it ran through 24 hours of Memtest x86 without a single error. This isn't the highest performance DDR ever sold but it is very solid in appearance and function at CL3 for a very reasonable price.

Cons: Wish it were CL2 but beggars can't be choosers these days. Required 2.85V DDR reference voltage on my Asus P4P800-E Deluxe motherboard in order to boot at all.

Other Thoughts: This kit runs cooler to the touch than the worn out Crucial Ballistix DIMM's that were previously installed.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear this memory kit is working well in your system. Performance DDR memory is very difficult to come across these days, and as you know, the CL2s are definitely non-existent. This memory kit is basically the last of it, so although it may not break any records, it is the best available on the current market. The ASUS motherboard you use has a slightly higher stated voltage than actual voltage, so that is why a higher voltage was necessary. Rest assured it is just fine for the modules and they will perform flawlessly. As you have confirmed as well, the modules run very cool, so voltage is definitely not a problem. It is also in part to the good heat spreaders to keep the chips nice and cool. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.
